Comparison & Contrast:
72-10 vs. 73-9
What does it take for a team to be the greatest in the history of the NBA? Some will say that the 2016 Golden State Warriors are the greatest team because they now hold the record for most wins in the regular season. Others will argue that the 96’ Chicago Bulls are the greatest because they once broke that very same record but the key difference is the Bulls were named NBA champs and the Warriors were not. However, I believe the Bulls are better for a several of reasons such as, they had stronger competition, their star player Michael Jordan was better than Stephen Curry, and lastly the legacy that the Bulls left is untouchable.
First and foremost, the competition during 90’s basketball is vastly different from today’s era. For instance, the Bulls had to go up against many formidable teams such as the Orlando Magic, New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers, and of course the team they faced in the finals the Seattle Supersonics, only to name a few. Meanwhile, the same really can’t be said about the Warriors competition in 2016. The reason for that being

the Finals matchup was predictable, everyone knew that it would come down to the Warriors and Cavaliers. Not to say there aren’t any good teams in today’s era but they are few and far between compared to the 90’s. Further proving that the Bulls record breaking season is far more impressive than Golden State’s because of the fact that there was just more competition back in those days. Without question arguably the two best teams in NBA history would have to have star players, and amongst those star players there is the player, the player being the guy who you want to have the ball in the last seconds with the game on the line because he’s going to make the best decision and for the Golden State Warriors that player is the sharpshooter Stephen Curry and for the Chicago Bulls it was His Airness, Michael Jordan. No doubt both players have changed the game; for instance, Curry with his crazy jump shots and smooth dribbling skills have fans everywhere cheering his name, but Michael elevated basketball to the highest level. Jordan changed the game and paved the way for the modern era. Both players had an amazing season, their teams broke the records, and each player was able to walk away the Most Valuable Player in the league. However, Jordan walked away that season with more accolades such as the All-Star MVP and more importantly the Finals MVP. Michael was able to walk away from the game knowing that he never went to game 7 in the NBA finals because he always seemed to elevate his game during those crucial moments; for example, the play that is referred to as the shot where Jordan hit an amazing series winning over Craig Ehlo. When it comes to Curry it seems like he likes to shy away from the moment like when Golden State had a 3 to 1 lead in the series against the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, he seemed to always disappear in the fourth quarter. Lastly and quite frankly the most importantly the Legacy left behind by the Chicago Bulls seems almost untouchable.
It seems quite impossible to ever replicate what the Bulls accomplished, because of the Michael Jordan led Bulls they have a flawless 6 of 6 record in the finals. The Warriors can’t say the same that because of the fact that they lost last year and not only did they lose they lost in the worst way, losing 3 straight games when the championship was all but theirs, they became the first team in NBA history to blow that big of a series lead in the Finals. Even though it is still very early in the Warriors dynasty they can never walk away and say that they went undefeated in the Finals like the Bulls did, even if the Warriors win the next 10 championships they still won’t have a better legacy than the
Bulls. So in conclusion the answer to the question, What does it take to be the greatest team in NBA history would be taken into three parts. It takes a team to play a high level of basketball in an era filled with competition. Also having a star player who elevates the NBA to greater heights, leaving the game changed for the better. Finally to leave behind a legacy that seems almost impossible to replicate. It is for those reasons I believe that the 72-10 Chicago Bulls will always be better than the 73-9 Warriors. It was not until the year 2002 that the NBA was able to find someone to match Jordan’s dazzling acrobatic style of play. His name is Lebron James. Lebron, who plays shooting guard and small forward, stands at an athletic six-eight. James, however, never played in the NCAA. He was drafted straight out of high school in the 2003-04 season, by the Cleveland Cavaliers. James is already on the road to success by achieving co-rookie of the year, and he appeared in the Olympics. James is expected to be a champion, but he may not have what it takes to become a real champion such as Michael Jordan was. Before Jordan or James can be categorized as a champion, they have to be able to handle pressure, fame, and maintain a positive relationship with their team. When comparing Jordan and James’ clutch capabilities, or their ab...
there are many things you can compare and contrast between the superbowl and the NBA finals their are many things you can compare between these two,the superbowl is better for a lot of things, Halftime, also the team winning the trophy , like the Denver Broncos and the New England patriots. Dont forget about the roaring fans in the superbowl, they get louder and louder and go home with sore throats. NBA finals, their are some good teams also good players which ever you consider best. NBA finals fans are alright, they only get crazy in the fourth quarter because thats when the players really put in effort. why wait until the last twelve minutes to really start playing.
At every level of basketball there are players that have shined on and off the court, this is true for two exceptional players like Michael Jordan and LeBron James. The debate over these two marvelous athletes and who is the better of the two, has divided sports fans since LeBron earned his first Finals Championship.
On the other hand, there are those who feel as if the effects of the lockout will be suppressed due to the strength of the league and its progression towards a new style of play. According to a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, proponents of the National Basketball Association rest their faith for the league on four basic fundamentals: popularity, being hip, demographics, and marketing savvy. Basketball has an advantage over all sports due to its ease of being played. All you need is a basketball and a hoop. As long as this holds true, proponents feel basketball will always remain popular. During the NBA's resurgence during the 1980's and '90's they, "tapped into the rhythm and mentality among younger sports fans that hadn't been touched yet.
It is 1991 and the Chicago Bulls are playing the Lakers in the championship. Michael Jordan had just crossed over Magic Johnson and was on a fast break, when he saw Pippen in the corner. Jordan whips the ball to Pippen and Pippen knocked a three down to take the lead. That was the first championship the Bulls had ever won. Their all-star player, Michael Jordan, was drafted in 1980. Nobody knew that Michael would lead the Chicago Bulls to their first championship series. The Bulls who had two all-star players, Jordan and Scotty Pippen, which of who were the Chicago Bulls top scorers. The team from the nineties had the best record in the NBA. The nineties were the best years that Chicago Bulls had experienced thus far. They have only won 6 championships and they all are from the1990’s (91, 92, 93, 96, 97, and 98). The Chicago Bulls had some of the best players around in the nineties.
College and NBA basketball aren’t that different they have many similarities and many differences. The main difference is that College has halves and NBA has quarters, The Shot clock is different too. College is 35 seconds and NBA is 24 seconds , The shooting distance is different from the 3pt line. In college you only get 5 fouls before you foul out and in the NBA you get 6. In my opinion College basketball is way more competitive and way more emotional than the NBA.
Since its creation in 1893, the sport of basketball has been one of the most popular sports in the United States. One wouldn’t have to search long to find a basketball court and a pickup game in most American cities. Many people around the world look up to the stars of the National Basketball Association as role models.
When people think of basketball and the great players that play today we all think of Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, and I mean lets face it we can name players whom play the game very well till we are blue in the face. All these players that were thinking of and naming have something in common which is none of them can compare to what Michael Jordan has done to the game. Some people say he destroyed the game making it that everything people accomplish is compared to what he has done in his career. Which happens when everyone i...
Kobe Bryant vs Michael Jordan? This is a controversial question in the NBA league. Kobe Bryant is one of the greatest basketball players of all time who was approaching or even goes beyond Michael Jordan. Both player are well-known to the world and as well as their basketball skills. As a similarity, both players are playing shooting guard and with similar play-style. I grew up with Kobe Bryant as a personal hero and barely knew who Michael Jordan was, now that I have examined the two players objectively. I concede that Michael Jordan’s skills are superior.
Due to the mark Michael Jordan has left on the world as the “G.O.A.T.”, it will be very difficult for any player to surpass his legacy. Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and LeBron James all have similarities of Michael Jordan but, out of all three players James is the closest. LeBron has the most similarities and the potential to surpass Michael Jordan’s legacy with his personality, stats and he popularity on and off the court. Even though James has the potential to surpass his legacy, there is still a very long journey ahead of James if he ever wants to be considered the “G.O.A.T.”.
Since neither of the players was active during the same era and never went head-to-head during their primes, we cannot conclusively decide who is best. Clearly, as evident from the huge list of awards both players have complied, both Michael Jordan and LeBron James have forever changed the game of basketball. Granted, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. I believe that both Jordan and James are two of the greatest basketball superstars to have ever lived.
The 1991 season was the start of the first three-peat, the Chicago Bulls led by the face of the franchise, Michael Jordan, had another All-Star caliber player Scottie Pippen. Michael Jordan and the bulls would go on to win their first championship beating the Lakers; he also won his second MVP since 1987 as well as his first NBA Finals MVP. He would go on to win his second MVP award in both the regular season and in the finals, also winning his second NBA Championship. His s...
The NBA should develop a differentiation leadership strategy. Events that the NBA has organized are becoming irrelevant when compared to its rivals’. For example, the MLB’s All-Star Game has an impact on post-season results. The MLS’s All-Star game features the league’s best against top European soccer clubs. The NHL’s All-Star Game features a ton of scoring in a sport that typically has low scores. There is no novelty factor for the NBA during its All-Star Weekend. Only the NFL’s Pro Bowl is worse than the NBA’s All-Star Weekend in terms of entertainment value.
The National Basketball Associations, Golden State Warriors are approaching history. They are the number 1 ranked team in the league and the quest for winning a record 73 games is well within reach. The keys they play by have helped them be the success they are. The consistent 3 point shooting threat has left many shaking their heads in disbelief. Always making the extra pass has allowed them to strive on and off the ball. Most importantly teamwork both on offense and defense has led them to be ranked among the league’s best in both. As long as the Golden State Warriors keep shooting the three point shot the way they have been, along with great passing and teamwork they will pass the record held by the 1995-1996 Michael Jordan led Chicago bulls team.
Can you imagine playing the game of basketball without a three point line? Basketball has constantly changed throughout history and continues to change today. The National Basketball Association has risen in popularity and is now one of America’s more popular sports. Because basketball continues to be a popular sport, a fan should learn about the origin of the NBA, how the game evolved from the late 1940s to the early 2000s, and how the players today impact the way it is played.
