Belgium Government v. United States Government
Belgium is a small country located in Northern Europe, just West of Germany. The government in Belgium is a Federal Parliamentary Democracy. It is held under a Constitutional Monarchy. A Federal Parliamentary Democracy is when the majority party forms the government and a prime minister is voted leader. A Constitutional Monarchy is when a king or queen is the Head of State. “As a constitutional monarch, the Sovereign must remain politically neutral. On almost all matters the Sovereign acts on the advice of ministers. However, the Sovereign retains an important political role as Head of State, formally appointing prime ministers, approving certain legislation and bestowing honors.” (Role of the Monarchy 4) The monarch is a position that is passed down based on heredity. The king/queen appoints the prime minister with the approval of parliament. (Belgium: Government 1) The people of the country don’t vote for their leader.
In Belgium, there are 40 members elected into legislature. They are in charge of creating and passing laws. This is very similar to the way laws are created/passed in the U.S. In the …show more content…
