Why is low art not intellectuality recognised? John Fisher explores this point in his work ‘High Art Versus Low Art’ Fisher explains the division of low and high art by the mental desires each form of art gives. “although utilizing the same mental capacities and skills as high art, the goals of entertainment, from the perspective of the audience, are primarily pleasure and diversion” whereas he explains high art gives ‘valuable pleasures’ for ‘intellectual life’ and low art is more biological and social ‘frivolous pleasures’ Fine art is more culturally renowned where low art (Commercially used) photography is demonstrated through pop culture. Fashion photography explores areas of both fine art and commercial pop culture. A fine-art photographer has deeper levels of meaning, as they choose to create an art piece instead of it being all about ‘money making’. Fine-art is known as photographic art, the term "fine art photography" has no commonly agreement that means or definition: rather, it refers to associate in the photographs, created in accordance with the artistic vision of the photographer. One and may modify this that fine art describes any image taken by a camera wherever the purpose worth lies in its beauty, instead of scientific value images, product photos, or newspaper and magazines showing photos with news or descriptive value. For my museum selection I decided to attend Texas State University’s Wittliff Collection. When I arrived, there was no one else there besides me and the librarian. To be honest, I probably would have never gone to an art museum if my teacher didn’t require me to. This was my first time attending the Wittliff Collection, thus I asked the librarian, “Is there any other artwork besides Southwestern and Mexican photography?” She answered, “No, the Wittliff is known only for Southwestern and Mexican photography.” I smiled with a sense of embarrassment and continued to view the different photos. As I walked through Wittliff, I became overwhelmed with all of the different types of photography. There were so many amazing pieces that it became difficult to select which one to write about. However, I finally managed to choose three unique photography pieces by Alinka Echeverria, Geoff Winningham, and Keith Carter.

"A photograph is not merely a substitute for a glance. It is a sharpened vision. It is the revelation of new and important facts." ("Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History."). Sid Grossman, a Photo League photographer expressed this sentiment, summarizing the role photography had on America in the 1940’s and 50’s. During this era, photojournalism climaxed, causing photographers to join the bandwagon or react against it. The question of whether photography can be art was settled a long time ago. Most major museums now have photography departments, and the photographs procure pretty hefty prices. The question of whether photojournalism or documentary photography can be art is now the question at hand. Art collectors are constantly looking to be surprised; today they are excited by images first seen in last week’s newspapers as photojournalism revels in the new status as art “du jour” or “reportage art”.
Masters. With his small hand camera he unobtrusively photographed people’s lives around the world. He was solely responsible for bridging the gap between photojournalism and art. He has published more than a dozen books of his work. The greatest museums in the world have shown his work.
Just as other works that reflect art, pieces in the category of fine arts serve the important message of passing certain messages or portraying a special feeling towards a particular person, function or activity. At times due to the nature of a particular work, it can become so valuable that its viewers cannot place a price on it. It is not the nature or texture of an art that qualifies it, but the appreciation by those who look at it (Lewis & Lewis, 2008).
...e fulfilled with manufactured goods created by capitalism. This thought can be an extension and progression of Benjamin, who argues that art subjects the working class to conformity because, as consumers, they enjoy simple capitalistic distractions. Though something that is never mentioned by Horkheimer and Adorno is a form of art being taken back from the dominant ideology as a form of protest against the upper class. Benjamin uses the example of Dadaism and a type of “anti-art” movement. He believes that art can cause a shock to the individual that would not be an ideological distraction. Benjamin argues that art does not need to follow an ideological format but certain people, like Dadaism, can create to promote thinking and not passivity. In contrast Horkheimer and Adorno argue that the culture industry creates to feed the masses the ideology of the upper class.
Whereas men had a so-called “head-start” with painting and sculpture, photography was pioneered by and equally associated with both genders. Sexualized images of women circulated via mass media. Described as a voyeuristic medium, photography was a powerful tool in deconstructing the male gaze and bringing private moments into the public domain (Bonney 1985: 11).
Women desire to become beautiful and powerful, even if they don’t say it in words. And the Photographer plays with that concept and creates that desire, that you can become that person you see in the photograph. And live that lifestyle. Photographers use techniques from the cinema/cinematic, to create the desire of viewers/Buyer/Consumers. The cinematic techniques made it possible the way people lived and the...
Now this leads us to understand what exactly, is art. studies all the typical “arts”. This includes music, literature, theatre, dance, film, as well as painting, sculpture, and architecture. This directs the student towards a very broad field. For example, architecture may involve the Sistine Chapel, considered one of the world’s most loved works of art. However, it may also include the landscaping in a small town square. So then, art is defined as something that deals with both the “useful” and “fine” arts, insofar as they appeal to aesthetic taste, or as long as they are created with the specific intent to cause a reaction, whether it be positive or negative.
