Coming of Age in Aging America Reflection Here in the United States we are having a huge change in our society; this is looking to be a permanent shift that will transform the landscape of our society. Our generations are becoming increasingly older with a decreasing younger population. Over the course of time our age populations are changing from the younger groups being the largest to the older groups are growing larger. The American society has been faced with some challenges caused by the demographic changes that have arose due to the population growing older. Our society is not geared for an older generation override, we are geared for a younger more mobile society. As our generations evolve there will be a necessary change that should take place for the ever growing older generations. I have seen this change in the age demographic first hand. As I work as a CNA in an assisted living facility it is seemingly harder and harder to have adequate nursing facilities for the older generations as they are continuously growing larger. At Spring Winds Assisted Living there are very few open rooms but surely they are filled shortly after being vacated. We have many new …show more content…

In class we discussed this as well. I have found this to be completely true. It is honestly all about how you age, whether you are healthy, happy, and physically able or not. I have seen many instances of individuals living into their high nighties and early hundreds that are mainly independent and many in their late fifties early sixties who require full assistance with all activities of daily living. There is no set standard for what one should be able to complete at age sixty-five nor should there be.
