“I've known entrepreneurs who were not great salespeople, or didn't know how to code, or were not particularly charismatic leaders. But I don't know of any entrepreneurs who have achieved any level of success without persistence and determination” -Harvey Mackay.
Colonel Harland David Sanders was a very well known American Businessman that is best known for creating the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) franchise and later acting as the company’s goodwill ambassador. Although it may have seemed that Colonel Sanders was not going to amount to much in life, he did however have one very important characteristic - a tremendous amount of persistence and determination which aided him in becoming one of the most well known entrepreneurs of today. This all can be seen in his life story.
Born in the year 1890 in Indiana; his father passed away when he was only just at the helpless age of five years old, Colonel Sanders lived with his mother until she married again later on, which turned out to be a very abusive relationship, which resulted in Sanders dropping out of high school and moving in with...

Barry Sanders was born July 16th, 1968 in Wichita, Kansas. He grew up in a family being one of eleven other children. When Barry was a kid he was considered to be too short to play football well at the college level. In fact, his 1,417 yards rushing in his senior year of high school wasn't enough to impress college recruiters. One recruiter told Barry's coach, "We don't need another midget." Only two colleges offered Barry a football scholarship. Barry accepted a scholarship from Oklahoma State University and the rest is now history.

One of the noteworthy aspects of his life is that he was not what some would consider a “natural-born” leader, meaning that he was not born into a family of great wealth or power. Chavez was born on March 31, 1927 near the town of Yuma, Arizona to a humble, hardworking Mexican immigrant family. His grandfather, Cesario Chavez, for whom he was named after, had worked hard to save enough money to be able to buy land in Arizona and raise his thirteen children, which included Cesar’s father. His father, Librado Chavez, grew up, got married, and opened up a couple of small businesses to help provide for his family and build a better life for his own children. When he was a kid he only received sporadic education, and education back then was simply not enough. But he did well and eventually went on to study law.
Not much is known about his early life, however, it is said that he was abandoned by his parents at the age of five in Virginia during 1965 and later given shelter and minimal education from Judge Anthony Winston. Later, at fifteen years old, he became an apprentice blacksmith before soon enlisting in the continental army.

Entrepreneurs too have a knack for great things. They come up with great ideas which they execute better than anyone else. They have the flair to seek opportunities, take risks, and then afterwards, fulfill potentials that nobody else sees. The real entrepreneur has the drive to succeed and despite failures, doesn’t stop. Heck, he never stops even if he already has succeeded. The real entrepreneur breaks new grounds, just as Barrie did.

We learned a lot of things in this course, but I think the most important lesson I learned is that it’s not easy to be an entrepreneur. I was surprised to hear in the first class that 80% of startups fail, but after reading The Art of Start and E-myth Revisited I understood why this happens more often than one might expects. Some people start their own businesses for the wrong reason and some start with wrong mindset. I’ve always thought that if someone has a brilliant business idea and hardworking they will succeed and grow their business. However, now I know that there are many things to consider before starting any business. In fact, there are many strategies that an entrepreneur could follow to achieve success, such as know your customers, work “on” the business, and how
