Everyone knows that Colonel Sanders created Kentucky Fried Chicken, but do they know the complete story? Colonel Sanders created Kentucky Fried Chicken in 1953. Kentucky Fried Chicken is one of the top fast-food chains in the world. The paragraphs below will give most of the information about how Colonel Sanders’s childhood struggles, adult life, and success.
Colonel Sanders’s childhood was full of struggles. A boy named Harland David Sanders was born in Henryville, Indiana on September 9 1890. Five years later Harland Sanders's dad died. After his dad died, Sanders’s mom took multiple jobs to pay for everything. Sanders was poor and had to take care of his siblings. Sanders dropped out of school in sixth grade. Sanders took classes in college to work in the Justice Peace Court in Littlerock, Arkansas. In 1929, Sanders and family moved to Corbin, Kentucky and he managed a Shells gas station. Then he opened a restaurant called Sanders Café and a motel. During the same time, Sanders went to Cornell University New York for hotel and restaurant management for 8 weeks. Sanders's life turned around and was going great. Sanders Café was doing amazing and was famous. In 1930, Duncan Hines featured it in his book Adventures in Good Eating. In 1935 Governor of Kentucky Ruby Laffoon made Sanders an honorary Kentucky colonel. Sanders tried to create a chain of his restaurant in Kentucky and sadly, it failed. Then 10 years later in 1947 Sanders and King got divorced. Fortunately, Sanders remarried Cluadia Ledington one of his employee in 1949. Also in 1949 Lieutenant and Governor Lewrence Weatherby honored Sanders as honorary colonel for the second time. USA federal government built a highway that bypassed Corbin in 1956. In Shelbyville, Kentucky at the age of 66 Colonel Sanders created one of the biggest fast food chains in the world. “Pride in his product, high standers, and brilliant marketing help to establish him as an innovator in the fast food industry.” (Col). By 1960, there were 400 Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants. Then by 1963, Colonel Sanders made over 300,000 dollars. It was a sad day for Kentucky Fried Chicken on December 16 1980 because the great Harland David Sanders Died. Even after his death, his legacy went on. In 1996, Kentucky Fried Chicken had over 5000 restaurants not over seas and 4500 over sea. “Raised in poverty, Kentucky Fried Chicken founder Harland Sanders—better known as Colonel Sanders—achieved extraordinary success at an age when most people choose to retire.”
