When I was little everyone told me I would make a great lawyer, they said I loved to argue. For a long time I believed them, I do love to argue. However, the older I got the more I realized that it wasn’t the arguing I loved, it was the dialog. How two people can have the exact same experience, but have two totally different views about that experience baffled me. When I was in high school I struggled with some things that I didn’t quite understand at the time. I didn’t understand why my teammates would listen to my male co-captain instead of me even when we said the exact same thing. I began as a lifeguard and within a year I was promoted to a head lifeguard. A year later I was the manager of a staff of 50 of my peers. This job has been demanding mentally and emotionally. I have had to schedule a semester's worth of lifeguard shifts, plan and run week long training events and be a leader to my peers. I have had to be the disciplinarian to lifeguards who were unable to fulfill their duties, I have has to write my peers up, require my peers to go to extra training and even fire some of my peers. These are not things I enjoy doing, but they are vital to the safety of our facility. Our job as lifeguards is to prevent injury and if that is not possible then we need to be fully trained and prepared to deal with any emergency at any time. I expect these requirements along with good attitudes and respect for our members and our facility from every single one of my lifeguards. However, not all my lifeguards agree with my standard. Some feel I am too intense and serious about lifeguarding, but what they don’t know is I have had members of past facilities pass away. My lifeguards have done everything correct, they knew their CPR and the Emergency Action Plan and the patron still passed away. Because of this instance, I hold high

Have you ever accidentally hit an Olympic gold medalist in the face? Hopefully you haven’t... Unfortunately, I have. It was a warm, summer day at the beach club where I work. The waves were crashing down in the ocean several yards away, and dozens of high-energy children and chronically-nervous parents were enjoying the last week of summer before the school year started. Lifeguarding here was my first job ever, and up to this point it had been going great.
Conflict is inevitable in any personal relationship or among members of any group. While we encounter many types of conflict in our lifetime, we often look for ways to avoid conflict. So, why do we run away from dealing with our conflict? It is often because many of us fear the conflict will escalate into a situation we will not be able to sustain. “As conflicts escalate, they go through certain incremental transformations. Although these transformations occur separately on each side, they affect the conflict as a whole because they are usually mirrored by the other side. As a result of these transformations, the conflict is intensified in ways that are sometimes exceedingly difficult to undo” (Pruitt, and Kim 89). We see many of these intense moments of escalating conflict throughout the story of The Great Debaters. The Great Debaters is based on a true story of three African-American students faced with the escalating conflict of racism in the 1930’s, with their English College Professor, Melvin B. Tolson bringing them together to create the first African-American debate team.
In brief, I agree that we, as humans, tend to be set in our ways and many of our problems are related to miscommunication, along with the fact that our judgments are biased because of our experiences and education. Even though I believe that it is human nature to lean towards the more interesting argument, I do not agree that all humans follow the individual in command without questioning as well as disagreeing with their views on at least one subject.
Police officers have a stressful job that requires quick decisions making with good judgment. Duties of a police officer involve writing reports and maintaining order in criminal situations, it’s all judged with critical thinking. Due to all the different duties that are required from a police officer they are required to have certain traits such as a good physical agility, ability to cope with difficult situations, well writing skills, as communication skills, and have the ability to have exert and respect commands of authority. Each department will recruit officers in a different way, but they will have some standards for recruitment techniques. These requirement will vary from minimum requirements, education, technology, legal knowledge, residency, and diversity. (Ch.14 Pg.349)
There is a large misconception that it is unacceptable to argue in a relationship, whether it be romantic, platonic, familial, etc. This depends on if participants are arguing in a healthy way. Everyone is unique. People will not always agree. It is imperative to listen to each other, use positive communication and be authentic.
Me, and my friend named Matt were talking about sports one day last year, when our conversation took a drastic turn into an argument. The sport of topic was Basketball, and it was about a week before the NBA Finals. I was saying how the Los Angeles Lakers were going to take the whole playoff championship with out a loss. He on the other hand was a Philadelphia fan, and wanted to see the 76ers beet the Lakers in the NBA finals. I thought it was preposterous for him to say the Lakers would loose the NBA Finals, after not loosing one game on the way there. And so our argument started there.
Interpersonal conflict is very common with many relationships. It occurs when two people can not meet in the middle or agree on a discussion. Cooperation is key to maintaining a healthy debate. More frequently; when dealing with members of your own family, issues arise that include conflict and resolution. During this process our true conflict management style appears “out of thin air”. (Steve A. Beebe, 2008, p. 191).
Firefighters and Paramedics have common differences and similarities. I’ve wanted to be a firefighter because I saw my own house burn to the ground, I also want to be a paramedic because they saved my father’s life 2 times and helped me out when I was severely sick.
Steven Seagal once said , “It is a lot harder now to be an Police Officer than what it used to be.” When I was six years old my family and I had got into really bad accident, a Police Officer pulled out my mother, brother and me before the car caught on fire. He could have saved the younger man in the other car, but he made the decision to save my family. Ever since then I have always admired Police Officers and their service. On Tuesday, September 23rd, I had the opportunity to do a ride along with the Takoma Park police department. My ride along was quite interesting. I rode with Officer Carl, a twenty-six-year-old officer who has been with the police department for six months. During the ride along we engaged in so many conversations concerning his work routine, and some the important things to be aware of as a police officer. Officer Carl and I were about the same age group so I felt much comfortable talking to him.
