Layton Kor was born in Canby, Minnesota, on June 11, 1938 and was a part of a family who traveled often, as his father was always searching for work. While living in Texas as a teenager, one of Kor’s first encounters with climbing was when he saw a movie about ice climbing. His interest peaked and there was no time like the present to start climbing. His first experience climbing was on a sloped clay embankment using ice axes. He chipped steps into the embankment, as any mountaineer would do in the ice or snow. Kor became instantly hooked on the sport and it became his whole life.

Typically people climb along a vertical direction and move off of the surface of the earth using the rock to help them defy gravity. Someone wanting to climb a mountain shouldn't suffer the consequences of being inexperienced. They would just want to have fun and try something new. When you conquer a fear, you could be taking a huge risk. If you had no rescuers, you would associate climbing with the fear of being in danger. Everyone should have a great time and be allowed to feel safe.
Rock climbing dates back to around the 19th century. It was been consider by many as a sport that has no bound meaning anyone can do it. ... my determination and self-assurance paid off. Not only did I learn how to climb and to overcome my fear of heights, but I also learned something about myself. I have more confidence than what I thought I did before. Sometimes when I go rock climbing I think back at this moment and just laugh to myself. The struggle, the frustration, and pain, but all worthwhile. I now know when I am faced with a new and uncomfortable situation I’m not so worried or nervous instead I challenge it. Everyone encounters a fear in their life, some walk away and some overcome it, am glad I did. I may feel out of my comfort zone in the beginning, but I know that as I practice and stay persistent being in that new situation and as my skills get better; I will slowly but surely feel more comfortable. It is a truly great, free feeling when you accomplish a goal you have set for yourself.
