College Essay
Throughout the years, I have had to deal with many trials, and challenges. Growing up BI-racial had a big affect on both my parents’ relationship, my relationship with my parents (which later on lead to their separation). There were cultural clashes within my household; my mother who was from Korea, and my father who was from Panama. I had learned to depend on myself, my friends, and most importantly, on God.
I believe that I would be successful in college, because I believe that I have a lot of potential. I’m determined, motivated, and also have a great depth of understanding my work. Although there was a great decline in my grades due to depression, caused by the death of a friend, loss of a loved confidant, and abuse from a boyfriend, my performance while attending school was excellent. My grades have improved since entering my senior year. I have learned a lot from the depression, finding inner peace, and achieving personal emotional growth.
An event in my life that has left a lasting impression on me would be the lesson that I have learned about life. Last summer, I went to a revival crusade, which was held at the Meadowlands. There was this speaker there named Stephen Hill. He spoke of Christianity being a relationship between people and Christ, not about being a religion. I learned a lot from that revival, and I have not been the same ever since. Not only is my outlook on life different, but so is my personality. All the burdens that were so heavily laid on me were gone the day I got saved. Instead of being dependent on my family and friends, learned to rely on a being that I cannot see, but can only hope and have faith in. Faith believes in something that we cannot see. “ Faith is to believe what we do not see, and the reward of faith is to see what we believe”, (St. Augustine). This event took me out of my depression, and made me realize that I wasn’t alone. God was always watching over me. It helped me overcome the battles that I was fighting within myself.
In the future, I would love to pursue a music career. Writing music, and singing, has always been a great passion and talent of mine. For now, I’m happy volunteering at a nearby hospital with a friend of mine.
One friend kills another. Speeches are presented. A war breaks out. This is the story of Julius Caesar, the emperor of Rome who was killed by Brutus and a group of conspirators. Many argue that Brutus was a patriot, and many argue that he was a betrayer. People argue that he was a betrayer because he betrayed Caesar’s trust and gave a speech against him. However, when you think of Caesar’s personality, arrogant and slightly reckless, he could’ve made bad decisions and caused Rome a great deal of trouble. Brutus was a patriot to Rome since he did what was best for the country and even took his own life instead of running away. He put his own feelings aside to do what was right.
It is important to include cultural issues in the helping process to be more effective. We also need cultural competence because the U.S. is becoming more diverse. Therefore with diversity comes different beliefs, norms, and values. Eurocentric values dominate sciences and began cultural universals which puts the clash of dominate and non-dominate cultural behaviors in motion. In 1996 the NASW Code of Ethics increased the recognition of cultural competence. It is important to know diversity exist within ethnic and cultural groups because social workers need to know that relationships between helping professionals and clients may be strained. This happens because of the distrust between groups. Another important aspect is that the professional realizes their own values, biases, and beliefs. The reason for this is because they must value diversity to start with and understand the dynamics of difference. Culturally competent practitioners have to go through developmental process of using their own culture as a starting point to meet all behaviors. Striving for cultural competence is a long term process of development. The literature on cultural competence is theoretical and conceptual. They have not been evaluated in a systematic way. Roughly there are 2 million Native americans in the U.S. Which survive decimating disease, over-repressed in child welfare system, suffer from health problems, and are among the poorest people in the United States. Working with them clearly falls within the social work clearly mandate to serve vulnerable and oppressed clients. However, we do not know how many people from this group is actually receiving help from social workers. Even though it is important to train social workers to provide care in th...
The stipulations of the Versailles Treaty were aimed to bring down Germany and make it as weak as possible. One of the solutions the the victors came up was to take territory away from Germany, resulting in the country losing more than forty percent of their coal producing areas. They took away the Polish Corridor, parts of East Prussia, parts of Denmark, as well as Lorraine-Alsace (Doc A). Taking away the Polish Corridor put Germany in a difficult position, as it geographically split Germany into two pieces. In addition, the city Danzig was also a very...
Similarly, the Islamic religion disempowers women by creating specific roles for them. Islam considers women as mere tools for propagation of life with the ability to bring forth a child being attributed to the man. Women were to swathe their heads as a means of subordination to the males. This brought about inferiority and superiority complex among women and men, with marginalization of women. Islamic regions, especially during the antiquity, restricted the roles of women to cooking and procreation. Men would assume leadership positions. The cultural beliefs became a mirror of the Islamic doctrines. Therefore, any person deviating from the be...
I’m currently enrolled in Montgomery College, located in Maryland. Montgomery College is a community college. Community colleges are different in comparison to four-year universities. I had a choice of either getting a job or going to college. There are many reasons why I choose to go to Montgomery College. I chose to go to college because I want to pursue a degree in Psychology. When choosing a college, there are a lot of decisions to make and you have to choose what’s best in your interest. In today’s society, community colleges take up a lot of the students going to pursue their education. President Obama has proposed to make all community colleges free for all Americans and I agree with this statement. People have different perspectives

Eastman Kodak Company is an American company focused on manufacturing photographic, print and film related products such as digital cameras, printers and scanners. It was founded in 1888 and is headquartered in New York, United States. In order to understand Kodak´s situation back in 1993 one has to know what the market was like at this time. Eastman Kodak Company was the strongest player in the early 1990s and Kodak Gold Plus was seen as the industry standard. In 1993, the US photo and film market consisted of 670 million 24-roll exposures whose prices ranged from $2.50 to $3.50, resulting in a total of approximately $2 billion. The industry was mature, leading to a 2% annual growth, and the market was relatively concentrated with four major players, namely, Kodak, Fuji, Agfa and 3M. Eastman Kodak Company and Fuji sold branded products, whereas Agfa and 3M sold the products b2b and b2c under private labels. Polaroid sourced its products from 3M.
Throughout history, men have been given superiority and dominance over women in the majority of religious settings. There have been few religions and cultures that do the opposite and see their women as having superiority and dominance over men. On one hand, the cultures and religions that see men as being dominant are patriarch. On the other hand, the cultures and religions that see women as being dominant are matriarch. Every religion and culture has an impact on whether societies tend to follow a matriarch, or a patriarch lifestyle. Hindu and Islam religions and cultures are two religions that tend to follow a patriarch lifestyle, but with few exceptions.
In conclusion, Kodak is a prime example of how a company should not handle change. Their denial of reality caused them to have a deep fall from grace that could eventually spell the end of their brand if they do not make the necessary course corrections. The bankruptcy may be the thing to save their company if they use it wisely. Fujifilm is the complete opposite in that they realized what the reality of their market was becoming and embraced a strategic decision that would allow them to capitalize on their strengths overall. They are a great example for how a company should be continuing looking ahead to the future.
He became obsessed with photography and became the willing young pupil of two amateur photographers in Rochester. While reading the “British Journal of Photography” he was inspired to improve the dry-plate photography. In attempting to improve this method of photography, Eastman created a gelatin-based paper film and machine for coating dry plates. He sold these dry plates as his first business in 1880 while still working at the bank. Eastman’s career received a huge boost when a major photography supplier started buying from him. In 1881 he resigned from the bank after being passed over for a promotion he deserved. From there he hired William Hall Walker, a camera inventor and manufacturer, to design the Eastman-Walker Roll Holder. The Roll Holder allowed photographers to have paper film advanced through the camera instead of the bulky single plates. This was the basis for the first Kodak cameras. The name Kodak was first introduced by Eastman in December of 1887. In February of 1889, the first transparent flexible film, introduced by chemist Henry Reichenbach, became the center of Eastman’s world. Through the 1890’s Eastman and his company fell on hard times due to the demise of Reichenbach, but were soon lifted when Eastman introduced the “Brownie” camera, at a cost of one dollar, in 1900. This and the other successes of Eastman put his company at the front of the photographic
For much of the nineteenth century, cameras were made in relatively small numbers; crafted out of expensive materials like brass, mahogany and leather, putting it out of the reach of the general public. The most significant event in amateur photography by far was the introduction of the Kodak camera in 1888, invented and marketed by American businessman and entrepreneur George Eastman. Eastman realized that there was a huge untapped market of people who wanted to take their own photographs if they were given the means to do so. The Kodak was...
The initial success story of Kodak came from its internal culture, guiding principles the company was based on: mass production at low cost, international distribution, extensive advertising, customer focus and growth through continuous research. Also, Kodak was focused on the quality of its products and made it as a fighting argument. They focused on marketing and advertising and even thought competitors could offer better products, there was no need for customers to pay for enhanced products. Company set industry standards in terms of photo finishing process and became benchmark for other players on the market. They used razor-blade strategy, which enabled to get more profit by film sales; cameras were sold at low costs but growth of the company was mainly stipulated by film sales. Therefore the fact that digital photography will replace traditional photography in the future was not at all good for Kodak, since it was making most of its sales on films.
Carbon dioxide is described by the Environmental Protection Agency as “the primary greenhouse gas emitted through human activities” (Overview of Greenhouses Gases). This particular greenhouse gas is a “colorless, odorless, and non-poisonous gas” (Carbon Dioxide Emissions) that stays resident in the Earth’s atmosphere. This is bad, because as the sun emits heat (solar heat) to the Earth and the CO2 traps that heat in the Earth; causing global warming.
Society tells us that after high school we must go to college and get a degree if we want to obtain success. For me going to college was the goal ever since I was a small child. Everyone in my family has gotten some form of post-secondary education. With a family like that ever Since the early ages of childhood as far I can remember my parents and family member were just always big on telling me I have to go to college to keep to better myself. After I graduated from high school the question in my house was not if I was going to go to college but instead where am I going to go to college. There was no question about if I was going to go to college or not. My parents made it clear that when august came around that year after I graduated from
Evolutionary Psychology is an approach in the social and natural selection that examines psychological traits such as memory, perception, and language from a modern evolutionary perspective.
