The ancient Greek storyteller Aesop stated, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” This quote is stating there is worth in a tiny, charitable action. Something minor can have a surprisingly large impact. With that, being nice can create friendships, it can cheer up, and it can be an inspiration. With this in mind, recall how a first friendship came to be. It probably wasn’t by being hostile. Even if the friendship started out rough, there was probably some sympathy that made a friendship. I know that when I started middle school, I barely had friends; however, when unfamiliar faces were friendly to me (or me to them), it confirmed to me that I was making some new companions as a result. Cracking a joke with others and trying to be friendly helped me know what type of person they were, and if they were sociable. This helped confirm friendship or not. However, when people were welcoming to me, it cheered me up and I made friends along the way. I had received a compliment from a new friend which became a highlight of my week, which shows the impact of benevolence. Somebody might do something nice for whoever else, and that person could be cheered up from a difficult circumstance and all they needed was to feel cared about and they did as a result of the thoughtful act. Uniquely, I was once able to make a cashier’s day after she decided to pay for my item. I told my mother what had happened and we decided to buy her a latte. When I brought it to the woman, she told me I had just made her day, and it was only six in the morning! Equally, this woman had made my day.
