Ever since I was a child, I have been enamored with working with my hands. I would paint and draw images of nature and animals seen around my home. As I grew older, my love of drawing shifted to piano and clarinet playing. I started performing musical pieces in second grade and have continued since. Due to my artistic nature, I began volunteering at my hometown church to help with the arts and crafts activities of Sunday school. Over time, I have learned to use my hands for a variety of philanthropic purposes, such as carrying flowers to those ill in the hospital, playing cards with the elderly, and caring for homeless animals at the local humane society. Unlike many, I knew quite early in life that my life goal was to be a dentist. In kindergarten …show more content…
I took on a full-time job and full-time student position, which led to many stressful hours, lack of sleep, and grades dipping below where I would have liked them to be. It was sophomore year when I realized I couldn’t successfully manage my time and grades with two full-time experiences, this is how I learned that I could make myself burnout if I wasn’t careful. I began searching and found a reliable job on campus that kept me in-touch with the community, but gave me plenty of time to study and earn the grades that would aid me in becoming a dentist, hoping to avoid burnout between the academic and work rigor. I earned my place in two honor societies, and surrounded myself with people who would help me strive to be the best version of myself. I decided to graduate with Honor’s Distinction, as the strenuous courses in the honor’s field would help to push my limits and prepare me for the rigorous courses of dentistry. I was accepted into a fellowship that allowed me to perfect my communication skills with people from many academic fields and ethnicities. The skills I have acquired throughout my life, but especially in college, have made me confident that I will excel in dentistry and dental school
From an early age, I wanted to have a career where I can help people, good working, and financially stable. That is why I chose Dental Hygiene. My dedication to pursuing my dreams has been tested though the competitive prerequisites that I needed to take before I can get in to the program. I needed to maintain A’s and B’s, in order to qualify to be into the pool of applicants to be chosen. I had 3.4 G.P.A and I was confident that I am going to be accepted.
Growing up I can’t say I ever knew right off the bat I wanted to work in the dental industry. I wanted to be a soccer player or an artist of some sort. I have a very big extended family with awesome careers. Which kind of got me thinking, what do I really want to do? Two of my uncles and one of my cousins are dentists. So of course they were talking to me a lot suggesting the dental field.
College is said to be the gateway to a successful career, and I think no different. One of the main reasons I want a college education is so when I approach an employer they see me and think success. Studies have shown that when you have a college degree you are more likely to make an average 20 thousand more a year. If I was awarded this scholarship money it would completely change things for me; I say this because my family has struggled financially and with this I would be saved from crippling debt in years to come. Another reason a college degree is important to me is because I am striving for financial success so that I do not have to struggle like my parents have. In life money is what makes the world go round, and with a college degree I would be placed in a position where I would be able to achieve a level of financial security that would support myself, and hopefully a
Upon enrolling at Texas State Technical College, I met some amazing professors who really inspired me to go for with my dreams of becoming a dentist. Even after expressing my fear of failure because I had a child, they assured me that I had it in me to do it. I had no idea how much work it would take to get to where wanted to be, but I knew that this was the career for me. It felt so good to finally know my purpose in life. Before actually starting my prerequisite for dental school my main motivation for going into dental school was to help people and I had a genuine interested in all the new technology. All the new advancements in technology that the dental industry as a whole had offered definitely reeled me in. I didn 't really know what I was getting myself into or how much dentistry has to offer until I actually started working as a dental assistant. There is where I learned what my purpose in dentistry was going to
Attending college is worth it. Students who get a college education and graduate have many more life changing opportunities than those who don 't; the debates of studying after high school has been ongoing for many years but statistics have proven that majority to all students who go to college achieve more life goals than the average high school graduate. They get more work benefits, life skills, higher paying salaries, etc. There is a downside to everything in life such as debt is to college education. However, the price students pay is so small compared to what the benefits they receive after graduating from college.
The American Dream. The ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. This ideology that anybody, regardless of race, gender, or social status, is able to work up the ladder and achieve success. However, the process to receive and live in this prosperity in today’s world has been greatly flawed. A key element to having a true chance of the American Dream is getting an education that goes beyond a high school degree. Yet, even this seemingly simple step in the process is difficult to achieve for many for countless reasons, however, college tuition is the prime cause for this setback. Even though there are people who believe that a college admission is fair to all, I firmly disagree, as countless people cannot pay for higher education, and, therefore, are not given an equal chance to live a moment of the American Dream.
In my experiences, I have found pinpointing a career and channeling my aspirations extremely difficult tasks. That being said, like most difficult endeavors in life, there exists extraordinary reward. Through research, soul searching, and trial and error, I realize that I aspire to make an impact in as many people’s lives as possible, while still taking care of myself and my future family. That is where dentistry comes in to play.
One of my favorite quotes is by Steve Jobs, states, "Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow know what you truly want to become." This quote is exactly what I am doing today by submitting my application to the Dental Hygiene program. I am taking years of training, success, and failure and focusing them all in one direction on obtaining my deepest desire. Over the last fourteen years, I've had plenty of time to develop myself and gain a full understanding of what I want to do with my life. I've come to not only love and appreciate every experience I've had in the medical field, but also aspire to grow and embrace the new challenge. Working as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient surgery clinic I learnt that I excel most when I'm working directly with patients, in a hands-on environment. I also found out that I'm extremely passionate about educating people, especially mothers; because I believe mothers play a key role in teaching the next generation about how to develop healthy lifestyle habits.
Some life lessons are better to be learned at an early stage at life and for my situation it’s good that I did. I learned that one should never depend on others when it comes to doing your own work. You have to work hard to get what you want, you can’t just wait for others to do it for you. This is one of the toughest lessons I learned and it’s good that I learned it. Although, it was tough for me the way I learned it.
Having a college degree in today’s world is very important because more companies and businesses are requiring that anyone they hire has at least a two-year college degree, which is also known as an Associate 's degree. High school graduates and other people who have had thoughts about going to college should do so because it is getting harder for just a high school graduate to get a job, this is a result of hiring companies and businesses don’t want anyone without a college degree. Having a college degree will open more opportunities for the future. By doing so they further their lives and create a future that they want.
School is a process that takes time and a lot of dedication. When we finish high school we have to choose to go to college or not. Most people go to college without knowing what they want to do. The only thing we know is that we want a degree of some sort. Getting a college degree should be essential to everybody because without one you won’t be successful in life.
The experience of the APEC Youth Science festival was incredible. It has had an enormous impact on me in many ways, changing the way I look at the world and connecting me with people and events far beyond my formerly limited experience. I am extremely glad to have had this opportunity. It was a wonderful experience on multiple levels. It challenged me and expanded me intellectually and socially. I feel that this experience has had an immense impact on me.
I certainly didn’t always know that I wanted to pursue a career in dentistry. My father is not a dentist, nor is my mother; and honestly my dad’s teeth are pretty jacked up. Although my dad did not put any pressure on me in terms of picking a career field, he did put pressure on me to get involved in organized sports at an early age. Getting involved with sports early on gave me an outlet for staying physically active, having fun, and making friends (and dexterity practice of course). There were a tremendous amount of life lessons that I have picked up from being part of a team that I believe will prepare me for not only dental school, but continuing into a life-long career in dentistry.
A college education is necessary today in society. Students can focus on their academics and try to get a high score. The cost of education for each student has become more difficult to afford. Thus, many students and teachers wonder if free college tuition must be granted. Free education must be responsible and funded by the U.S. government because it will help students focus on their studies, and encourage them to work harder in school. Even thought many people think that education must be free, it is very important for many reasons such as the economy, quality of education, and value of a college degree.
Although many individuals can see the importance of quality education, there are some that see college education as simply waste of time, funds, or impossible due to their situation. In this paper I will explain how obtaining a quality education can impact an individual’s life and why it is vital. The necessity of a college education for employment goals, income expectations, personal accomplishment and quality of life will be explored.
