The Shadow of Smoke I have a very vivid memory of one fine Sunday evening when I was walking alone on the busy road which is lined on both sides with many buildings and roadside shops. I had my earphones plugged on and was listening to one of my favourite tracks which is Paradise by Coldplay. As I was enjoying the music and the sight of different types of people passing on the road, my eyes rested on this tall and handsome boy who was walking towards me. The number of examinations and assignments a student writes is just a very large number and honestly, not everyone can efficiently complete all the work. The competitiveness and intense pressure from the institution takes away all the dreams and aspirations of students who are neither the toppers of the class nor the failures. When a person is stressed out or even when a person is upset or disappointed, he/she succumbs to smoking or alcohol consumption. This occurs mostly due to failed relationships, poor grades and such other disturbances. Smoking even gives students the 'cool' image among their friends. Nowadays, everyone is concerned about their image and some have the misconception that they will get the spotlight if they smoke weed or any other drug which is not so easily found and is secretly managed from some source by arranging money too. The thought of doing something which is illegal enhances the curiosity and thrill of the youngsters. I have even come across certain places in around my college campus where there are groups of boys sitting together and smoking weed and shouting and singing and going crazy. These places are usually isolated and very dark after sunset so they are the best locations for such people as nobody notices them and even if someone does, stopping them is the last thing he/she would do. Everyone has an image to maintain and nobody wants to feel stressed in life, especially in college. College is where the real freedom steps into our lives and it is sad to see how these youngsters are spoiling the best times of their life by smoking and then making themselves weak and subjecting the body to some serious health issues including cancer.
