The End of My Pain
One of my most memorable event that took place while I was at High Point was during my junior year. I remember that I was going through a phase in my life. I was changing into someone who is stronger, ambitious, and more determine in life. This event occur over a period of several months. It involve some of my closest and best friends that I will ever have. This little incident had particularly changed the course of my life and would forever leave a mark in my life.
I remember that during winter of my junior year, I had see my ex-girlfriend for the first time in three years. She left my life when I was in the eighth grade, because I was irresponsible to dumped her two time during our relationship. I can probably never forget how special she meant to me. I know that deep inside, I still loved her dearly. I stop talking to her for three years because she was so busy with her life. After about three years of excommunication, I finally got the courage to call her up and ask about how was thing going for her. We caught up on old memories and enjoy a few laughs about the new ones. After the conversation, I decided to go see her the next day.
One of my biggest mistake was to introduced my best friend, Celio Sosa, to my ex-girlfriend. While I was driving Celio home from school one day, he begged me to drive him to see Estela, my ex-girlfriend. At first, I thought that he should meet her because she was my first girlfriend and he was my best friend. When I took Celio to Estela's house, he was shocked by her beauty. The next day, he go to her house without telling me about it. He was courting my ex-girlfriend for a couple of days. I did not know about this until I came to visit her, and she told me that my friend had been visiting her everyday. I was a little jealous because I knew that Celio liked Estela. I went up to his face the next day and ask him if he like her, and he told me that he do. I knew that my love for Estela had never stop so I told him that whoever she choose is up to her.
Individuals with certain preexisting or underlying psychological issues can render them more likely to join a cult. It’s evident that there are severe psychological problems originating in childhood including physical, sexual and emotional abuse and neglect in the cult members. There seems to be a life-long pattern of self-destructive patterns of behavior that manifests in early childhood, which include self-mutilating behavior, chronic substance abuse, absent parents, and sexual perversion. Placing these individuals in emotionally and physically vulnerable situations such as in a cult seems to have adverse effects. The severity of the cult members’ psychological problems...

While many of the theories agree that dreams are a representation of ideas and thoughts from the unconscious mind, no single theory has been formed as the single primary authority on the matter of dreams despite more support for some of the theories. The fact of the matter is that despite the rampant research and discourse on the concept behind dreaming, these theories are merely speculations. But these speculations feed the curiosity on dreams and will hopefully lead to the expansion of dream analysis to not only better develop the current understanding of dreams, but also to help people around the world by possibly expanding dream analysis to become an early identifier of mental illness.
When most hear the word cult, they imagine mass murderings and warn their children “don’t drink the kool-aid. However, a cult is defined only as a “religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader”. These systems or communities rely on worship and ritual. There is no mention of violence or bloodshed in this definition. However, “destructive cults” are a whole other story and are often the ones making the news headlines. These destructive cults use unethical means as a way to control and manipulate to bring thought reform (defined as the systematic alteration of a person's mode of thinking). Ironically, these destructive cults give an illusion of self control and freedom to its members. It is estimated that five to seven million American’s have been in cults or cult-line groups according to the cult hotline, of course this is a hard number to properly caluclate.
Throughout the last couple of decades more and more stories of illegal cult activity or murders by satanic cults appear on the news each night. This surge of reported cult activity has caused a spark in public interest. There has been a large increase in the fear that surrounds cults over the past couple of years. A cult is “a therapeutic or unconventional religious movement (McBride, 1985, 22),” and the more cults that fall beneath the public eye, the more serious the fear of cults becomes. Much of this fear has been sparked by major cult related incidents such as mass suicide by the People’s Temple or the murder of Sharon Tate. These incidents, and incidents like them, grab the nation’s attention and create widespread panic. But as the nation reads about these stories in the paper, the same questions seem to surface. Questions like “How does this happen?” or “What can we do to stop this from happening again?” are often asked.
It is very important that people dream if they want to remain in good health. Sleepers can cycle through five stages of sleep continuously throughout the night, one of the most important being Rapid Eye Movement (REM). REM sleep can last for up to five minutes at a time, and is entered multiple times throughout sleep. On the other hand, the brain stem, which controls a person’s emotions, memory, and desires, is very active during sleep. However, the “reasoning brain” is shut down. A person’s brain also cuts off all signals from the senses and blocks messages sent to the muscles, which prevents someone from acting out his or her dreams (Andre-Clark). Society strives to feel a sense of belonging. We want to be a part of something that shares the same beliefs as us. We spend our time trying to place ourselves in a group to satisfy these needs, whether it is in a hobby club, a group of friends, or religion. Some people go to more extreme measures and find this in what we call a cult. According to Henslin, a cult is a new or different religion whose teachings and practices put it at odds with the dominant culture and religion. (2013:405) Cults are often identified with the ideas of mass murder, deviant behaviors, unusual beliefs, and extremely devoted members. Cults are also highly known for their leaders. The leaders of cults usually are the ones that portray the image for the entire group. Successful cults take a strong-minded and, according to Max Weber, charismatic leader.
This relationship took place in my senior year of high school and after some time after graduation. I was introduce to this girl that my close friend had set me up with. We were both ‘the shy at first but crazy after getting to know me’ type. I had no real intentions of being in a real relationship, especially, not with her cause she lived in a different state. In society, dreams can evoke lots of fascination; furthermore for many years philosophers and scientists have tried to resolve the riddle; why do we dream? As human beings we devote so much time to dreaming, so much so that we don’t remember many of our dreams that get disoriented in the realms of us sleeping. Chances are of those dreams we do remember, tend to be difficult to understand; therefore, leading us to wonder why we even dream at all? Throughout the progression of time, many theories have been presented, the two most famous ones being: the psychoanalytic theory of dreaming and the activation synthesis model of dreaming. The psychoanalytic theory of dreaming by Sigmund Freud’s suggests that dreams are nothing but our unconscious longing, judgment, and incentive. On the other hand the activation synthesis model of dreaming by J. Allan Hobson suggests that dreams are a result neural impulses that occur during your dreams, that trigger different areas in the brain which result in dreams that he claimed to be the “most creative state” we as human beings take part in. Based on my own series of dreams, my own personal theory is very similar to that of Sigmund Freud; conversely, I believe dreams strive to do what we as human beings struggle to do, which is make up our minds. Dreams serve as little flares that clarify our conflicts; likewise to Sigmund Freud our dreams do include our unconscious desires, but these are only present to show us as human beings that the answers to our conflicts are already present; present in the back of our minds, secluded from everything else.
I was so used to having girlfriends that I could call when I just wanted to have girl talk that I didn’t realize the effect it would have on me when it was gone. My summer was spent with my boyfriend and my boyfriend and my boyfriend alone. With the feeling of being lonely, I started trying to reestablish old friendships that I let fade into the grey as years passed by. Doing so, I started talking to my current best friend. We bonded over the same issue and from there we’ve been inseparable. As our friendship grew stronger the sad feeling I had from losing my former friend began to fade away faster and faster. It has gotten to a point where it’s all just a memory now.
Dreams can be bizarre, one moment the dreamer is being chased by a killer in the jungle, when suddenly the dreamer is in Paris sitting with friends having a cup of coffee. Most people dream every night while they are sleeping, yet they have no idea why they are dreaming what they dream. Dreams are a fascinating and puzzling topic, since the ancient times people have analyzed and researched dreams. Although an extensive amount of research has been collected, no one has found enough concrete evidence for a definite reason people dream what they dream and in fact why people dream at all. A major reason being that only the dreamer can experience and retell the dream. There are many theories, most scientists agree with. Dreams are visual images that occur usually during sleep, moreover; there are many theories on why people dream and types of dreams, ranging from thoughts of the day, to fear, to the desires and emotions of a person mixed without rational thoughts.

Time flies so fast. Looking back, my high school is just like a movie, a lot of things happened. High School is four years of growing up and probably a time in your life where you go through the most changes. In high school you are able to discover yourself and find out who you are as a person. Each year is special and unique in their own way. My journey through high school was a tough one, especially because I decided to not only focus on academic work but also to invest quality time in extra curriculum activities. I wanted more than just academic excellence; I wanted to be a leader, I wanted to add value to every aspect of my life, I wanted a rounded education and not just mere schooling. My success story is what I will like to share with you; how I really made it and how this defines my personality. My journey in High School was scary, exciting, and successful.

A boy named Paule asked me to be his girlfriend. It was exactly three days after Casey ended our friendship. I knew that I was broken inside from what happened but something told me say yes. So I did. He had one of those smiles that just made you feel warm even in the worst situations. He was sweet and kind and helped me get thru the days at school when I was alone. I slowly started healing a little every day, with the comfort of him by my side. It shocked me how close we became with each other. Paule wasn’t just my boyfriend he was my true best friend that I had been missing for years.
