I am often asked “What do you want to be when you’re older?” or “A Political Science degree? What do you suppose you will do with that?” And honestly, I cannot say for certain. But that’s ok, because these questions are not necessarily intended to be answered with absolute certainty. After all, no one really expects a 17 or 18 year old high school senior, whose only experiences are likely limited to what a K-12 education, a few extracurricular activities, and perhaps a part-time job can offer, to make an uninformed prediction about what he or she wants to do every day for the rest of his or her life. The way I see it, I still have eight semesters worth of college classes, perhaps a few internships or international experiences, hundreds of people to meet, and four more years of life to experience before I make my career decision. In that time, I may discover that my passions and interests are different than they are now, especially considering they have changed before. …show more content…
While I still admire well-designed architecture, I know that architecture is not the right career for me. Now, my dream job is to run for an elected office. As a Congressman or other public servant, I believe I could truly make a difference in my country and in the world. My passion and interest in a variety of topics and subjects will serve me well in crafting meaningful legislation. My open-mindedness would allow me to view all sides of an issue, while my responsibility and integrity would help me be an honorable and just public servant. My excellent debate skills and leadership acumen would serve me well in a public office, and I would do everything I could to help my constituents and to make America a better
From the time a child enters preschool, teachers begin asking a common question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” That dreaded query has always haunted me, mostly because the way it was redundantly asked put a ton of pressure on me and my peers. The question was like a rusty nail being hammered into our head’s by society. I continuously had the cliché answers of becoming a doctor, teacher, or a police officer, but with serious reservations. After years of not having a clue, I started to think about what I like to do after the stresses of work and school were gone at the end of the day.
When people are younger everyone always ask what do you want to be when you are older? Of course when it is children everyone is filled with wonder about their answer whether it’s a model, astronaut, race car driver, etc. Now that I’m older it’s expected for me to know exactly what to do with my life and how to do it. I realized very soon that I sometimes can be an indecisive person when it comes to life-long decisions. This being a huge decision in one’s life you could only imagine how many times I’ve changed my idea on what to go to school for. Although, changing my mind become a norm, I eventually decided a degree in business/marketing is the right path for me. What are my career and educational goals, what will my job would be like, and
My family owned and operated a jewelry business for 8 years, since I was 10 years old. I grew up with this store, among the earrings and ornaments, always surrounded by things made from a unique substance called gold. Gold is a well-known element, atomic number 79; of course, everyone knows of its international monetary value. However, gold also has a deeply personal resonance; and upon closer examination, this material provides an emblematic picture of my past, my future, and what I offer Harvard University.
When we were little, we thought the word “Career” was not a big deal, but as a senior in high school, the word has become our reality as we start to finish our last semester. The question we’ve been asked all these years is, what do you want to be when you grow up? But our answer is simple: we don’t want to grow up. As an innocent kid it seemed like the time would never come, but it has. It’s time to get serious and really ponder this question.
As we begin to grow up and come to the end of our high school career we must start to begin to start thinking about what type of career we want to be in. It is very important that a person picks the right type of career for them. Otherwise you will be unhappy with what you are doing and will not enjoy it at all. I am not entirely sure what I want my career to be but I have a pretty good idea as to what type of job it will be. I would like to go into the field of a physical therapist and sports medicine, I fell I will enjoy this more than any other type of career just because I already have a lot of interest in it.
You go three years of high school preparing for college and at the same time having fun. Until you are in your senior year of high school that’s when you realize and start asking your self what college do I want to go to? Or what college career I want to pursue? That’s when you notice you have but so little time to answer these questions. Me I’m in my last year of high school and I though I already knew what career I wanted to pursue, but its now that I notice that not even I know what I’m going to do with my life? All I’m sure of its that I’m going to graduate out of high school with a diploma and that I’m going to college. But what happens after that? What major did I study? Or where did I go to accomplish my goal?
That is a common question, to pre-schoolers, to fifth graders, to tenth graders. It is a tricky question, most adults don’t know what they want to be in the future. I don’t either to be completely honest with you. At first I wanted to be a firefighter, then a NASCAR racer driver, then an architect, then an artist. And now I want to be a music producer and a rapper. Odd how we change the course of our future. I wish I can change my past but as much as I dream that I could. I can’t, but what I can do is to try and change the future. All I see now is sadness, sadness in young teenagers, sadness in parents, sadness in teachers. We are becoming the outcome of something. Something that we just can’t seem to understand, but it is destroying
I first heard of the word architecture when I was in the sixth grade. At that time it only meant the design of a building to me but as I grew, it grew onto me, I began to become more interested in architecture. Now I know that architecture is more than just the design of a building. It is coming up with the structure scaling and even the view of the top of a building or house and the sectioned view. In the future I see myself as a grown man sitting beside other people while coming up with a design which would one day affect the lives of many people in a positive way. This impact would contribute to helping people use areas and space in the right way, I want to make something which would be beneficial to everyone. I am a 17-year-old African American boy who attends Brooklyn High School of the Arts, where I currently major in art.
The experience of the APEC Youth Science festival was incredible. It has had an enormous impact on me in many ways, changing the way I look at the world and connecting me with people and events far beyond my formerly limited experience. I am extremely glad to have had this opportunity. It was a wonderful experience on multiple levels. It challenged me and expanded me intellectually and socially. I feel that this experience has had an immense impact on me.
If I had a nickel for everytime an adult asked me what I wanted to do for the rest of my life; needless to say I would not be worried about a thing. Teens tend to get easily frustrated with this question, but we never realize the importance of it. The truth is, we too ask ourselves this question and for whatever reason, maybe it's our youth or our short attention spans, we can not even give ourselves an answer. A couple years ago, I was this such teen. I was backed into a corner; my grandparents had just asked me this infamous question. For once, I actually thought about it and I spouted out, "Well, Pop Pop... Mamaw, I am going to be a poltician." I was the cause for many "jaw-droppings" that day, but I felt too excited to worry with that. I finally knew what I wanted to be, and oh, how I wanted to be a poltician so badly. For a teen, I guess it is rather odd that I chose this career, but there are many reasons that transformed a twelve year old, who still stubbornly believed in leprechauns, into the passionate young woman, whom I know today.
The Future is Now Charles Kettering at a point in his life is quoted to have said, “We must look forward to the future as that is where most of us will be spending the rest of our lives.” This statement is one that used to frighten me, but now reading the sentence, I realize this is an opportunity. The possibilities of anyone’s future are endless. When searching ten years into these possibilities, nothing is going to be exact, but by looking at the past we can predict the future. Attending a public school and living with my parents has taken up much of my life, as it is with most students.
An excellent business woman or man leads with their head held high with little to no worries. Business Administration has pushed me into the direction of becoming a strong leader. Growing up I did not have many resources to navigate me in the right direction. I was born in Harbor City, California and raised in the city of Compton. Opportunities and roll models were not completely there for me which caused me to not have much to lean or rely (CSULB). I am the first in my family to even reach the point of community college. People in my neighborhood laugh at the idea of going to college. Around my neighborhood there are not many businesses that benefit my city and what it consists of. Education is highly low and the risks of jobs are dropping due to population. At a young age I decided that when
We use the word "believe" in many ways. We believe in things that are clearly not true, like Santa Claus or The Easter Bunny because, as children, we don’t know any better. And as adults, we haven’t gotten much wiser. We believe in things that may be true but cannot necessarily be proven, such as God and true love. A belief can be a religious creed, a system of ethical, moral or philosophical values, or dedication to a social cause. My belief is that a person should not need to depend on someone for happiness.
At school when children learn about the different career options available, they are all asked the important question of “What do you want to do when you grow up?” Throughout their schooling career, they are asked this same question countless times, and each time, their response may vary; however, at their age, children’s responses do not seem thought out or important. Many will respond that they want to be a police officer, or a movie star, or a
Changing Our Lives Life is important in itself, but it gets better with a little more help from consistent knowledge acquisition and the experience that comes with working towards achieving a goal. Changing our lives requires calculated interaction and decisions that affect the current and future direction that one takes. Education provides a rich platform for enhancing one’s life. My pursuit of the college education will enable me to think better and boost my employability in the job market.
