Throughout my life, I have always put forth tremendous effort in my education. My strong work ethic kept my grades high. As a student who understands hard work and persistence, it is an aspiration of mine to represent something greater. I learned early in my high school years that if I wanted to be afforded opportunities, I had to work hard; and that I did. Throughout the last few years, my diligence has given me numerous opportunities. Other members and I attend the local elementary and middle schools. I found that counseling and encouraging people to make good choices will always impact a person in a positive manner. I also observed first-hand how this same guidance helps to build strong relationships that will carry on for many years to come. I have found that my past experiences with this leadership group is vital; simply because at some point everyone needs to have someone that they can lean on. I was fortunate enough to get an internship that would only build experience that I will continue to use forever. I am also part of swim and the baseball team, and I am the captain of both teams. The previous year, I won a hustle award for baseball, and the most improved award for swim. These awards allowed others to see that I gave one-hundred percent through times of hardship and glory. A person with leadership qualities will have an education with a substantial amount of experience. This person will also be good natured and friendly. I know that I am a true example of this. I also plan to take advantage of continuing to mentor those who need direction. Organizations such as Big Brother and Big Sisters are fundamental and vital for some youths’ success. The opportunities that I have been given have confirmed to me the importance in continuing to be a leader. As I move to the next phase of my education, I have a strong desire to continue to be a mentor and leader. For that reason, I have applied to Galilao, which is a living learning community at Virginia Tech. I hope to be able to continue to lead by example through this community. When I found out that I was one of the captains of the Varsity Sideline team, I had a beaming smile and felt satisfied with my achievement. As captain, cheerleaders on the varsity and the JV squads come to me with questions and small issues, and I enjoy the opportunity to help them. I have become even more organized and mature because the coach looks to me for help. Just a few days prior, the Catalyst Color Guard, the team of which I am currently captain, won the Texas Color Guard Circuit State Championships. We earned the highest score in the 10-year history of our program after an incredibly successful season. What enabled us to succeed this past season was the leadership. During the last three years I have devoted a significant amount of time and energy to the betterment of young entrepreneurs, who in this country are mistreated, stripped of opportunities, and looked down upon. In my quest to start my own business, I faced many obstacles that I later found to plague all entrepreneurs in my country. Established family heads discourage their younger members from starting separate businesses; they would rather their younger members join them in the so called "safe business." Moreover, companies and government organizations will not award contracts to young people since older people earn respect for their age rather than their ideas in this traditional sub-continental culture. With an uncooperative family and no sources of funding, young entrepreneurs face little chance of success.
My previous leadership experience includes being a member of National Honor Society, Links, Student Council, and Teen Court. Along with holding position in office for Humanitarian Club and All-Stars. All-Stars allowed me to become a mentor for 15 high school freshman while at a three day retreat to better their personal leadership skills. Links is also a high school freshman mentoring program in which I supervised and kept 11 students on track with attendance, grades, and personal lives.

Throughout high school I tried to be involved in numerous activities, not because of how they would look on college applications, but because I was passionate about what they did or what they stood for. As captain of the Santiago high school varsity water polo program, I find myself in leadership situations every day. Most of the time, my job as captain involves dealing with those who no longer wish to continue playing, clothing attire, practice organization, and the overall moral of the team.
