Understanding why you are moved to reduce uncertainty helps you pinpoint your intentions for an encounter. Focusing on a job interview, it may only be a one time meeting. It should be handled with the anticipation that it will be the first of many encounters. You will want to leave a good impression however, doing that can make you question each and every decision. Uncertainty is broken down into two types, Behavioral and cognitive. Behavioral uncertainty is when you question if actions are appropriate for the current situation you are in. Wearing the wrong outfit and being embarrassing would definitely not be a great way to start an impression. When looking at cognitive uncertainty an example would be if you were answering a question and the persons replies to you “is that a good answer?” You wonder what their intentions were for this. This makes you second guess yourself and then this leads to thinking into the next questions even more. Causing to loose focus and instead of answering questions in the interview you spend time thinking about what has already happened. Solving and reducing uncertainty can be extremely helpful in reducing stress and building confidence. In an interview you want to be as prepared as possible and this includes research and practice before hand. Dispositional factors which are personal and unique to the individual and change little over time. Additional, there are situational factors that are based on the outside world and events that are uncontrollable. It is impotent to remember that some individuals behaviors are not based on your actions. If the interviewer is upset when you walk it might be because they had a rough morning or maybe they have been doing tedious interviews all day.
