5. Environmental and social issue:
The coal mining has several disadvantages which not only limited to carbon di oxide emission but also affect the land, water, human health and other species life. Underground and opencast mining both have their tremendous disadvantages for environment and the society. Underground mining requires fire blast which has lined up severe situations like human safety and environmental pollution. These activities are also responsible for the displacement of the human beings, animals and other species hence it will disturb the ecosystem. In 2006, 30 million people displace which was 50% higher than the year of 1991. The coal mining also requires large amount of water from the nearby source and this waste and contaminated water generally disposed to some river and land. These activities affect the normal drinking water, underground/surface water and the minerals of lands. The large scale excavations, removal of surface soil, dumping chemical wastes, creation of road, cutting of mountains etc. all these actions causing severe impact on the land. The land deforestation is one of the most severe problems because it’s also related to the local people and animals. Number of species and animals rapidly got endangered from the past few years because of such activities.
6. Government regulation:
The ministry of coal determines all the policy and regulation regarding the depth of exploration, amount and place of the exploration, production, supply and the market sales price. Because of the government bureaucracy resistance and the delays in institutional changes hinders the coal sustainably. Non privatization policy resists the competition in the market and limits the performance enhancement. Corrupt governance...

The agreement among all the stakeholders will help in building the proper policies and regulation with the interest of social and environmental issues.
7. Innovative approaches:
Government should focus on innovative ideas which directly or indirectly benefit the coal industry. Government can introduce green credit ratings for companies to enhance the performance and the credibility of companies. Building communities and open forum which allows industries experts to discuss and share the innovative ideas from various countries. These approaches will not only help in the information exploration as well as to learn the international experiences and policy experimentation in this area.
There are many stakeholders in this case and each stakeholder could be affected in various situations.
Roughly 68 percent of the electricity generated in the United States of America is produced by fossil fuels. That includes petroleum, natural gases and coal. Although coal contributes around 37 percent to the factor, it is by far not the cleanest of them all. Some might argue that it is good for the economy because it is cheap and it creates jobs.. But the other side of the story portrays coal mining as a process that kills thousands of coal miners a year and that it practically destroys the environment around the mining with soot and air pollution. Mining now days is a big part of urbanization; due to how cheap the process is. There are different ways that coal mining is done. Mainly mountain top removal is done but there are many other
The period in American history between 1900 and 1920 was a very turbulent one. Civil unrest was brewing as a result of many pressures placed upon the working class. Although wealth was accumulating at an astonishing rate in America, most people at the lower economic levels were not benefiting from any of it. Worst of all for them, the federal government seemed to be on the side of the corporations. Their helpless situation and limited options is why the coal strike of 1902 is so important.
The Great Railroad Strike of 1877, which began on July 16th 1877, was the first national labor strike in the United States. The strike spread along the network of American railroad lines. Unorganized railroad workers, reacting to pay cuts and a loss of control to their company bosses demanded a work stoppage that was meant to halt all railroad traffic. Railway officials attempted to keep the trains running with militia and replacement workers but failed at the outset because of increasing popular support of the striking railroad workers. The Great Railroad Strike of 1877 ended by August 1st with the strikers really no better off. The workers did not gain an immediate pay raise or improved working conditions. They had successfully overthrown the control of the railroad officials but they were unable to sustain the momentum they needed to make the strike effective. Even though the strike had been unsuccessful, the action itself was significant because it highlighted a growing division between capital and labor in American society. The Great Strike had important repercussions; a rise of national labor unions, an escalation in labor conflicts, a rethinking of the role of state and federal governments in labor conflicts and the establishment of labor rights as a continuing political issue.
Coal is considerably one of the most important sources of energy in nature and is one the most significant sources for power generation worldwide. The excavation and importance of coal became mainstream and apparent during the Industrial Revolution of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Tar sands are one of the world’s most controversial resources. They consist of bitumen, a heavy crude oil, and a mixture of sand and clay. Bitumen is an organic matter that is solid at room temperature and when heated it will flow and ooze. Often referred to as oil sands, tar sands are found all over the world. The main locations where these commodities are found are Venezuela and Canada. Alberta, Canada is one of the largest hosts of cretaceous rocks, where oil sands form (Tar Sands Basics, 2012). Alberta’s supply of oil outweighs Iraq and Saudi Arabia’s reserves by a fair amount, “In fact, Alberta 's oil sands deposits contrail 200 billion barrels of which are recoverable with current technology. That is enough oil to supply all of Canada
Railroads can be referred to as the first big business, and the first industry to develop management bureaucracy (Ogburn 39). Railroads were a vital part of early American history during the 1800s-1860. The development of Railroads was one of the most important phenomena of the Industrial Revolution. Railroads brought social, economic, and political change to the country (Stover 26). In the United States a turnpike era and then a canal era had immediately preceded the coming of the railroads, which proved to be fast, direct, and reliable in all weather. After 1830 the railroads grew so quickly that within a decade their mileage surpassed that of the canals (Hollingsworth 28).
On or about 7 February 2008 an explosion occurred at the Imperial Sugar Factory in the city of Portwentworth Georgia was caused from dust, which resulted in the loss of 14 employees whom suffered from major burn injuries (Sugar dust explosion and fire, 2009). Key issues that were identified for that caused the explosion were combustible dust hazard, combustible dust accumulation, and equipment design and maintenance (Sugar dust explosion and fire, 2009). The explosion caused major damage to the building structure enabling the factory to in operational for a significant amount time, as well as causing employees to be at work until operations was resumed. The imperial sugar factory was an unfortunate event that left Chatham County and the
What comes to mind when you think of coal mining? If you're like me, coal mining means living in darkness and a cold hearted industry. Other words that come to mind are poverty and oppression. Coal mining is not a job that you dream about or get a degree for. People who are coal miners do not chose a life full of danger and repression, they get stuck with it. There are many dangers that come along with coal mining, not only for the workers, but for the environment. Coal mining and the coal industry have caused irreversible damage to our environment and has killed innocent miners.
The globalization of coal may be the top reason for climate change, especially in China. Particularly, burning coal is the biggest source greenhouse emissions. “China is currently building over 1 gigawatt of new coal plants every week.” 1 This is dangerous since those producing the coal, only use the energy and leave the carbon dioxide behind; dumping it into the atmosphere and increasing the greenhouse effect. As a result, the rise in temperature may
Burning and mining coal for fuel is harmful to the environment, but because of how cheap and easy it is to find, many people are unwilling to give it up as a fuel source. One of the problems with coal is that they are limited and are non-renewable, so once it has been used we won’t be able to use it again. When coal gets burned, they start to release harmful, dangerous toxins such as mercury, lead and arsenic that will then escape into the air. It also releases large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. These emissions increase the greenhouse effect in the atmosphere and lead to global warming.
It has an effect on the environment and also is critical for supporting the pleasantness of the place we live in. The air quality in Australia especially is decreasing rapidly. At the moment, air pollution is causing asthma and other lung related illnesses. Coal power plants are just one of the reasons why Australia’s air quality is rapidly decreasing. Coal is a sandy rock.
Energy plays an important role in every country’s economy. Natural gas is the cheapest fuel, relatively cleaner, lower in density as compare to the other
This knocks the economy big time. Coal mining has strict guidelines that the industry must follow before the construction may begin. The reasoning for this is so they can reduce impacts and refine a plan to recondition and conserve the land after mining is complete. This industry works extremely hard on reserving water use and supply, they find innovative ways to reduce, reuse and recycle the water. The use of water also has strict guideline they must meet before they are able to access
In our days, mining for resources is inevitable. The resources we need are valuable in everyday life. Such resources mined up are coal, copper, gold, silver, and sand. However, mining poses environmental risks that can degrade the quality of soil and water, which can end up effecting us humans if not taken care of and many of the damages are irreversible once they have occurred.
