Recognizing a conversation Chicago is one of the most beautiful and impudent at the same time cities in the world. Therefore, skyscrapers, sculptures and most of the sites are also filled with confidence, creativity, and challenges. Being observers, we rarely see some constructions, which might be referred to as the real artistic masterpiece. We see some of them as a piece of art, while not understanding the value of others. Therefore, it is worth examining one of such bipolar sculptures that lately became a symbol of Chicago city. This construction is known as Cloud Gate. Today we are forced to assume that contemporary art is something undefined because there are many controversial discussions and arguments about its elements. Subsequently, …show more content…
Such straightforwardness allows us to achieve an idea of complex forms in sculptures. Referring to its laconic form, citizens of Chicago decided to call this sculpture as Bean, or Huge Bean, as it was representing the form of the bean itself. However, the official name is Cloud Gate, as according to the artist’s idea, it represents the gates to the city with mirror-like perception of the sky and clouds. Furthermore, to prove its name, observers see the surface of the installation with panoramic pictures of Chicago, which are different at morning, afternoon and nighttime. Mirror surface simplicity is observed in possibility to see the most beautiful outlines of the city. As Anish Kapoor admitted, this sculpture was designed owing to inspiration from the mercury drop: its shape, color and reflections. He saw this drop in his ideas falling down and frozen right before it was about to touch the ground. Thus, such form connects two core patterns in perception of its observers: bean form with its curves and mirror-like surface. Those two features are considered the core elements of this
By the late 1950s, Voulkos had established an international reputation for his muscular fired-clay sculptures, which melded Zen attitudes toward chance with the emotional fervor of Abstract Expressionist painting. Some 20 works -- including five "Stacks" (4-foot-tall sculptures) as well as giant slashed-and-gouged plates and works on paper -- recently went on view at the Frank Lloyd Gallery. This non single show is his first at a Los Angeles gallery in 13 years, although a survey of his work was seen at the Newport Harbor Art Museum (presently carries a different...
Abstract geometric shapes are easily seen in “Always.” The subject of geometry is apparent from any angle. This sculpture has a unitary form of a long and large rectangular shape that bends several times in different directions and angles before springing into space. Mass controls the composition of this sculpture; it is a large sculpture with lots of volume. The mass creates a line of movement into space. There is a dynamic action of the geometric shapes extending into space. The sculpture appears unstable and off-balanced as if it is going to tip over.

However, many views can be taken on this piece. For instance, there may be more symbolism in certain symbols to some portions of the audience. These may be mixed along the various geometric shapes in the work. According to further context, Mehretu built her piece from multiple layers of figure. The dynamism of the work made reference to traffic patterns, wind and water currents, migrations, bordering crossings and travel. When this is realized, there are new interpretations that can be formed. For instance, this can target major issues in America. There is also the dynamic red “X” that may not seem to be evident at first, but is located and found at the top edge. This represents and establishes references to Russian constructivist and the Bauhaus movements circa, the early twentieth century. Seen by many others as a work of political and historical purpose, it places a stop in the era of modernism. There are variations of interpretations that would be taken into account by historians or others when analyzing this piece, but this work of art has a different meaning to me. When I first saw this work, I was interested to find out what date the work was created. The geometric style of the work made me realize the modernist style of work. Although the name Stadia II, I did not see anything related to a stadium; on the contrary, this work of art reminded me of a grand theater or
...y textbook and was immediately excited because I went somewhere well-known and it is a highlight spot of Chicago. I honestly didn’t even know that Cloud Gate was the sculptures formal name until I started this paper. Anish Kapoor is an artist who makes sculptures that viewers have to observe from a number of angles to get a full aspect of his intentions. Several of Kapoor’s art pieces are extreme sizes with a wow factor. Kapoor really wanted to have the viewer think both the relation of space and time when walking under the navel of the art. The use of the stainless steel plates creates the reflection of whatever the viewer’s eyes perceive to intake. Instead of using colors, patterns or different forms, Kapoor used the smooth surface of the Cloud gate to distort the perception of the viewer in a way were each time you look at “The Bean”, it is truly never the same.
Richard Serra, a known American sculptor, created an artwork called the “Tilted Arc” in the middle of Federal Plaza, in a downtown New York City business district. This curving wall of steel or CorTen steel was measured 120 feet long and 12 feet high made in 1981. Serra was commissioned to create this artwork for the Federal Plaza space; however, the public was against his art and was a target for criticism. Although the “Tilted Arc” was seemed as worthless and the “ugliest work of outdoor art”, people who opposed needed to understand that the point of art is not the “traditional” beauty, but the true meaning and the purpose of it. Many are narrowed minded when it comes to viewing and perceiving art, when it should be viewed by trying to understand
My Chromebook is dead and I don't havve the charger. I left it at my dad's house when I left for school this morning. I don't have any way to check my grades, do my online homework, or look anything up on the internet. Without Chromebooks, students are completely disconnected from school. That's why the Chesterfeild County Public School Boardshould continue letting us have our Chromebooks. Chromebooks help students with their responsibility, they're eco-friendly, and they're efficient.
New York City has been called “the greatest city in the world” numerous times by its own people and visitors to the city. New York is civilization’s greatest world within a city. It gives the overpowering impression of being a magnet and mirror for all of humanity and all that humanity does. For a city so young, New York is home to number of architectural classics. Two of these masterpieces of architecture are the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Both continue the metaphor of New York being a world within a world and possess the latent fusion of form and function, one dependent on the other. The Metropolitan Museum is the epitome of neo-Classical style while the Guggenheim is a modernist powerhouse. Each museum serves the same purpose: displaying humanity’s greatest achievements. By comparing and contrasting their history, location, façade and interior, I will investigate how they arrive at this goal in contrasting styles
When beginning my sketch, I took a moment to analyze the work of art and found that the statue illuminated a sense of serenity. Like most viewers my initial reaction was to explore the statue from head to toe as I sought out the different elements and principles of art. The statue was close to life-size and just about my height, so looking straightforward we were eye to eye. I noticed the softness gathered about the facial structure, but all the same time the depth and complexity that was engulfed around the muscularity of the body. The rigorous symmetry was accounte...

Ever since the fall, mankind has had a voracious desire for power and influence. People witness this desire within the walls of the Capitol Building when the media exposes backroom deals. It also springs up whenever a politician uses a podium to persuade people that he makes the world work. Politicians possibly rely on persuasion because they crave the power. However, persuasion is a manipulative, unBiblical tactic of forcing others to accept a point of view by all means necessary.
The Chinese-American architect Ieoh Ming Pei (I.M) is known as one of the greatest architects of the Twentieth Century. His long, brilliant career was highlighted by several internationally famous structures. While many of Pei’s buildings were generally accepted by the public, some of them precipitated fair amounts of controversy. The most notable of these controversial structures is his Glass Pyramid at the entrance of the Louvre in Paris. For these reasons, I.M. Pei seems to be an architect who exhibits interest in the avant-garde through both the creative design and aestheticism of his architecture.
Its red metal beams stretch out in front of the Engineering Building on the University of Texas campus. Thousands upon thousands of UT students walk and drive by this monument each day but few really taking in its true beauty and magnificence. This sculpture is made up of an obvious bright red metal and is welded together with big screws. Because of this vivid color that di Suvero decided to use, one can assume that color is an important element of this sculpture. On a sunny day, this sculpture seems to beam bright red-orange as compared to a cloudy day where it’s a more dim and dull
Persuasion is a part of our everyday life. Whether we are persuading our mother, using persuasion through speech, or through advertisements, we are using rhetoric strategies to get the response we desire. With the help of minor details in many advertisements, Ethos, Logos, and Pathos are a way of persuading the audience to buy or think a certain way. A Colgate toothbrush commercial used Logos, Pathos and Ethos to spread the word that they have the best toothbrush of all, in which they target everyone who has teeth. Through the use of advertisements, Colgate has convinced the world that they have the best toothbrushes, they’re even recommended by dentists.
During the research field trip in the Downtown gallery, one of the most interesting artist which called Randi Nygård. Her works If You Imagine Cutting the Universe into Pieces, the Different Parts Can Serve as Clocks for the Others 2 (2013) which made by mirrors, digital prints, steel was really attracted attention and the size of this work was 130*50*50cm. The work was presenting the natural state of the world like mountain, cell, flower, river and clouds.
