Claude Monet is known for his brilliance in his paintings of natural scenes. He was one of the leading artists in the Impressionist art movement. His techniques focused on color and lighting, which was vital to the Impressionist Movement. Through his choice of color and his vibrant brushstrokes, he was able to depict scenes in ways that were new to everyone. In The Tuileries, Claude Monet created a sense of elegance and peace that leaves people wishing they could walk into the painting and through the courtyard through his brilliant color, value, balance, and harmony.

Although the painting is not symmetrical, Monet balances the painting exquisitely through asymmetrical placement. On the left half of the painting, he painted a large cathedral looking building. This contains a lot of weight for the eye, so on the right side of the painting, he equalizes the scene by adding more trees and bushes. This adds a little more weight to the right side to help balance out the painting. Using the principle of balance, Claude Monet was able to pull everything together and make it look peaceful and flowing.
Finally, Monet uses the principle of harmony to give an inviting vibe. Through all the elements he used, he brought them all together wonderfully using harmony. One way he used harmony was by repetition. He repeated the green shrubbery, and blueish, lavender highlights. This, again, created a peace filled scene that makes you want to be in the painting. Monet also used harmony by making subtle and gradual changes in lighting. So, by using harmony, Monet could finesse the painting, giving the feeling of peace and compelling the viewer to want to be part of the painting.
