Comparing Capitalism and Various Political Philosophies

A method of life that American’s have become accustomed to is the luxury of capitalism the country provides to citizens. Worlds of both yesterday and today experience similar and different livelihoods exemplified by Marxist Socialism, Fascism, New Liberalism and Classic Liberalism. These political philosophies all share the similar end goal of ‘making life better’ for all participants in a nation, which contrasts the ideals of capitalism which is based on free-market trade in a winner takes all configuration. Classic Liberalism and New “modern” Liberalism are similar in structure but differ in how they describe property and liberty. The goal of the socioeconomic idea was that there would be a resolution of the class struggle by taking those where were successful and allowing the public to take a share of the proceeds, and more importantly, the products being manufactured. During Karl Marx’s original ambition he utilized his analysis of history, literature, media, economics, and philosophy to influence his discipline, which resulted into what was deemed as the perfect mix of all aspects of life. The economic organization of his produce was based on finding a mode of production in which consumers and producers were equivalent to one another. At the time, Capitalism was failing as the population had rising unemployment rates and lowered storefront profits. This was combatted by taking private property, and following socialist dynamics, replacing one-person (or single family) ownership with co-operative ownership—resulting in a sense of equality. This compares to the aforementioned Classic Liberalism and New Liberalism mentalities by being a way to combat capitalism and also provide more for citizens that have little of their own. While different in nature, the overall mentality of Liberalism and Marxism was giving The People ownership of property, proceeds of profits, access to products, and also a say in how the government should run their various operations. The political stance of those who favor Fascism are typically far-right on the traditional political spectrum and are focused on making themselves better than others. Often referred to as being a “military citizenship,” Fascism is based on a totalitarian one-party state when rules are defined by government and dictated town towards in a top-down fashion. A key piece of Fascism is that violence is viewed as finding a way towards resolution (bringing it back to the previously mentioned military citizenship), while also stating that war and imperialism can lead to a rejuvenation and generation of an economic superpower. There is less of an economic side to Fascism than Liberalism or Socialism as it is based on the individual at the top being in control: citizen is below store owner, who is below local government, of whom is below the declared government.
