30 Isabelle Allende has written many different stories. One of them, called City of the Beasts, is centered around Alexander Cold, a young teen who learns that life can be better when he explores out of his comfort zone. Allende writes about how Alex deals with the new society of Africa, a country that he’s afraid of (what, with all of the diseases and spiders bigger than your head, it’s not a surprise). During his adventures in the Amazon, Alex becomes more adept and used to Africa’s societies. From meeting shamans to saving an entire Indian tribe, Allende illustrates how Alex, just a regular kid, can become a figure of destiny, and all you have to do is step outside. When Alex’s mom becomes ill with cancer, he has no other choice than to stay with his grandma Kate, who’s preparing to make a trip to Africa. Alex is fearful, but he knows it’s for the best. When Kate and Alex do arrive to Africa, the humidity “hits them like a towel soaked in warm water” (City of the Beasts, page 50). As the two settle in a small village along the Nile River, Alex starts getting used to the environment around him: very little use of technology (with the exception of airplanes, helicopters, and small ferries), the sweltering heat, and all of the wildlife to foreign to him (small monkeys, vipers, and …show more content…
Alex meets a young girl named Nadia and the two become good friends. These two experience even more weird events, such as becoming captured by Indians, discovering lost species who were presumed to be extinct (such as small, flying wyverns and the Beast[s]), and even discovering El Dorado (and possibly the Fountain of Youth). Eventually, Alex and Nadia foil a scam within the expedition’s crew and were almost shot (some of the crew members weren’t even aware of the scam). When these con-artists are arrested, Alex and Kate safely return

After reading this book, I was really amazed at how good the author described Alex Rider and how realistic he made him sound. I was baffled at how brave Alex was to accept the dangerous mission (p. 55) and become a spy. If I were Alex, I would have rather gone to the institution instead. I wouldn’t have been valiant enough to pursue the mission than an adult has died from elucidating. Later on in the book, I was annoyed when Nadia Vole, one of Herod Sayle’s employees, tricked Alex into thinking she w...

saves the land and manages through the drought. This shows how Alexandra never gave up on
Overall, Alexie uses this book to call to Native Americans across the country to do something about the destruction of their culture. He uses activities such as fancy dancing, powwows, and storytelling to lend to the idea that Indians are able rekindle the flame of their culture and that the identity of the Indian culture can still be preserved. Norma Many Horses and Thomas Builds-the-Fire show up numerous times in the short stories and have an unforgettable affect on readers. This is because they both have a strong sense of the identity of their culture and the fact that it is slowly diminishing. Through out the stories these two characters do their best to use their talents to preserve their culture. The book is full of persevering characters the will the Native American culture to continue on.
Page 12 is the beginning of the chapter “The River”. Dana is transported back to where rufus (currently name is unknown) is drowning in a river, his mother is at the bank in a panic. Dana drags rufus to shore and proceeds to save his life by giving him mouth to mouth resuscitation. She is returned to the present when his father arrives and puts a large gun in her face. Dana is returned home at this point where only a couple of seconds have passed for her husband Kevin (Note that dana reappears soaking and mud covered). The next chapter is titled “The Fire”. Once Dana is taken back to rufus’ time she finds rufus to be a couple years older than before. He has lit the drape on fire to get back at his father but became scared once he realised it

Young adults will laugh and become speechless at this fight against nature for true love in Maggie Stiefvater’s Shiver. Shiver is a fictional book with a supernatural twist. The main character, Grace, is an excellent daughter and student until a boy named Sam gets shot in the neck and arrives on her front porch. Grace treats his wound and Sam tells her that he is a werewolf who transitions from a human when it’s warm in the summer and to a wolf in winter when it is cold. Soon, Sam and Grace fall in love and together they fight to maintain Sam’s human form for as long as possible as winter draws closer. The theme in this story is to fight for what you believe in. The theme is well developed because the main conflict in the story is trying to
Sacrifice, even when it comes to one’s ultimate end, is crucial in order to survive as a productive race. In the book Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, he illustrates the hardships of the early-nineteenth-century lifestyles. With the resurrection of an evicted man, the novel sprouts from a broken family recovering and growing. This novel incorporates many grand gestures and adventures, such as the French Revolution, treason trials, and the sacrifice of one’s own life in the name of love.
My favorite scene in A Tale of Two Cities is one of the last scenes, when Sydney Carton is about to go to the guillotine. It takes place in Paris, near a prison, and many people have gathered to watch french aristocrats be beheaded. The atmosphere is tense and chaotic; Sydney, however, remains calm, even though he is about to be killed. Sydney is holding the hand of a young girl who is given no name other than a "poor little seamstress". Sydney and the seamstress, who are both being wrongfully killed, comfort each other just before they reach the guillotine, and they seem to have an instant romantic connection with each other. I loved this scene because it showed that Sydney Carton had finally found someone who could love him, as he could love them, but it saddened me that he had found her just before their deaths.
In 2006 Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC made their gaming system PlayStation 3 (PS3) available for purchase claiming that it would be the most advanced gaming system on the market that would last generations. It boasted its futuristic performance capabilities through its ability of accessing an online gaming network called PlayStation Network (PSN) as well as an “Other OS” feature. It made a claim to consumers that this system would last for ten years, but within the product licence and terms of service it mentioned that operating updates may cause loss of functionality on some of the features. In 2010 Sony released a software updated on the PS3 that
