Church Observation Paper

During a Sunday morning service at Harvest Life Changers Church in Woodbrige, Virginia I was able to witness several different encounters of people communicating with each other. I arrived at about 11:00 a.m. a half hour before the 11:30 service began. My first encounter was of people waiting for the shuttle bus to take them to their vehicles a nearby parking lot, the communication appeared to be friendly with a pleasant tone of voice. Their nonverbal gestures included smiling and laughing with some hand movement that indicated to me that the conversation was enjoyable. This is where I witnessed my next several encounters. First I noticed people standing in line to get their food, each one was met by a server and a cashier with a communication that included the exchange of not only food but money as well. The communication in my opinion was a mixture of friendly yet businesslike tone of voice with a sense of urgency from the customer. He gave us his message though the word of GOD, his voice was powerful and commanding, and spiritual yet subtle and warm, his body language was animated and forceful as he quoted the scriptures and reminded us that we are all children of GOD. The congregation received the message and stood filled with the spirit of GOD and communicated back to the Bishop that his words were clear and understood by shouting Hallelujah and Amen. Their body language told the story as they raised their hands and looked to the heavens.
