Chronicle of a Scar
Growing up, I was always a tomboy. While the girls were busy playing Barbie, I was building forts and playing in the dirt with the boys.
About a month before my eleventh birthday, I went roller skating with my mom, my aunt, and my cousin. I was quite the adventure seeker at that age and liked to skate as fast as I could. Well, of course, I fell. Not only did I fall, but I ended up with a cast on my left wrist for a month.
Luckily, a few days before my birthday, my cast was removed. This was fortunate for me because I was getting the gift of all birthday gifts. I was getting that bike I had been eyeing for so long.
For months, my parents had taken me into BEST Department Store and I would just fantasize about riding that bike with the

It was a 26-inch Huffy 10-speed. It was a lovely shade of lavender. It was really unique because the paint had these little sparkles in it, which glimmered when the sun shined on it. The handle bars were also lavender, with little black checkers on them. The bike had a black seat and white reflectors, not those cheesy yellow or red reflectors. It was the bike of all bikes, and it was going to be mine.
Finally, the day had arrived. My eleventh birthday. The bike was a little too big for me, but my parents decided that I would grow into it. All of the kids in the neighbor- hood came to my party and checked out my new "wheels." Just as I had planned, I was the envy of the neighborhood. But, of course, it rained that day. And the next day, and the next.
Finally, on Saturday morning , the sun was shining brightly. At about 11 AM, my neighbor, Jaime, called me and asked me if I would like to ride bikes with her. She was two years younger than me and just as much a daredevil. I didn't hesitate for a moment. I put on my sneakers and headed out the door. I can still hear my mother saying,. "You just got your cast taken off your arm. Don't break anything
Contemporary art is the art that has been and continues to be created during our lifetimes, which can include and represent the Australian culture, politics and music as well as in art forms such as portrait and landscape. Contemporary art is defined as art that is current, offering a fresh perspective and point of view and often employing new techniques and new media. Current art means work by both emerging and also established artists. Rosalie Gascoigne and Imants Tillers are honoured for their contribution showing the Australian landscape in fresh, new and transformational way. Whilst both are similar in their use of text and original interpretation of our landscape they are vastly different in their approach and creating meaning for their
These assemblages of work mirrror a reflection of glimpses of landscape beauty, a particular solace found in the nature surrounding us during her time in the outback, elegance, simplicity and the lifestyle of the physical world around us. Gascoigne has an essential curiousity displayed in her work exploring the physical word that is captured in an essence of this rural home which brings evocate depictions, subject to the arrangement of these simple remnants that offer so much more. The assemblages focus us on viewing the universe from a unique turnpoint, compromising of corrugated iron, feathers, worn linoleum, weathered fence palings, wooden bottle crates, shells and dried plant matter. The art works offer a poetic expression that traces remnants around the world that individually hold meaning to their placement in the
Have you ever rode a dirtbike? I have my dad got it for me on my 9th b-day. After receiving this dirt bike, I now ride it all over the place. It has become apart of my life!
Jay Gatsby was determined to be with Daisy Buchanan again. It was apparent that he was madly in love with her. Throwing extravagant parties and hoping to find her in attendance was just one of the ways Gatsby tried to lure his love back into his arms. Gatsby would do just about anything to get what he wanted, his own friend described him as “quick and extravagantly ambitious” (Fitzgerald 101). Though Daisy never show...
My dad was trying to convince my buddy Perry and I to do the hill climb in Logan, Iowa that was the same day as the race. We both kept telling him no because I didn’t want to roll my new bike down a huge hill and we both loved racing. We washed
“The Other Side of Paradise: A Memoir” is a vivid recollection of Staceyann Chin's traumatic childhood as she discovers her voice and identity growing up in Jamaica beginning in 1972. At the age of four, Staceyann is already experiencing the oppressions related with being a girl. Delano, her older brother by two years, is the only male in the house as both of their fathers are out of the picture. Since they are both raised by their deaf and illiterate grandmother, Delano exercises his masculinity over Staceyann in numerous ways, even at the age of six. Wether it be the games and communication at home or learning in school; Delano is always prioritized over Staceyann. Although they both long for the return of their mother whom abandoned them after Staceyann was born, it is she who is affected in the long run. Bounced around to different families, Staceyann has issues with keeping her mouth shut, thus landing her in tons of trouble all the time. Every adult figure she has to deal with relies on The Bible for punishment reinforcement. “Stacey, the Good Book tell us, In every thing give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you (pg 7, The Other Side of Paradise).” When every answer is in relation to The Bible, Staceyann is always left lost and confused. If God is responsible for everything, why is she left motherless in poverty? Her journey continues as she excels through grade school and into high school. Along the way she encounters a few relationships with boys, but is never fully able to trust them due to her being sexually assaulted numerous times as a child. As Staceyann meets her mother and visits with her father, she is forced at a young age to fend for herself. In a stru...
In another chapter, Lewis tells of the importance of improvisation. It can be used for a number of reasons. Improvisation can be used to create a better understanding of the playwright's words. When you put the playwright's words into your own you can often times get a better sense of what it is you are saying and the whole meaning behind it. "It's quite possible that in the improvisation you get a little moment…that enriches the inner life of the dialogue and that you might never have discovered without improvisation".
The scars of our pasts are said to have established a place among our present, however visible or invisible, and that these scars, through time, are unpeeled before our future selves. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is about the story of a man, Amir, who relays his life during the times of peace and conflict in Afghanistan, and his life in the United States. It is about the life of a man who tries to escape his shameful past, but is constantly lost and incomplete as a result. As the story revolves around the life of Amir, from childhood to adulthood, Hosseini utilizes first person point of view of Amir, various use of diction, and the symbolism of kites to reveal the underlying message of how the past is a part of whom we were and who we are today.
As a little girl, I was always known as the child who gets hurt almost all the time. I could never escape an injury even if my life depended on it. There was one incident that occurred that my parents and I still disagree on till this day. It all started one day when my brother and I were playing in our room after a long day at our uncle’s house for a family gathering. After playing for a while, my brother and I decided we both would like something sweet to eat, so we went to ask our mother for some ice cream. When our mother said we could get some, my brother and I jumped for joy and I went to retrieve the sweet substance. I was so excited about getting ice cream that I ran down the stairs to go get it. My journey down the stairs was not the easiest and ended in a lot of ...
Growing up acting like a tomboy was all I could do to normalize myself amongst boys. I noticed at an early age that I wasn 't respected when I acted like a girl, so I thought if I acted like a boy I might fit in better and make more friends regardless of gender. So I threw out my dresses and My Little Ponies and took in Thomas the Tank Engine and hats that hid my long hair. Unfortunately, all that rebuking my femininity got me was less guy and girl friends. All my kindergarten self had was one Matthew Phillips.
When I was five years old,I had my first fracture, I fell off my brother’s tricycle while I was standing on it to reach for the light switch, I fell right on my left arm which resulted in fracture of my humerus and damage to my elbow ligaments, my arm was immobilized in a cast for about six weeks, after the cast was removed, I could not flex my elbow at all, I also had difficulty using my arm, I started range of motion and strengthening exercise till my arm was back to normal, it was a difficult but enjoyable process as well and I felt so proud of myself. This led me to find an interest in rehabilitation. I pursued this path and earned a B.A. in physiotherapy with the hope of improving the lives of others.
Not knowing how bad the situation will prevail, escalating rage explodes, throwing the dinner tray against the wall! Shouting violently, ‘Thank you!’ the echoing of music continued to play. Examining the stone cell, fitted out with a sink, toilet and shower artistically constructed purely from stone. Humiliation, anger and regret released a tear, retiring to bed, staring up, rolling over grabbing his shoe from the floor. Rising from bed, positioning himself with a quarterback stance he threw far and high as possible, straight up it went blasting into a wave of electrical currents! Sparks spewed downward blinding his sight, suddenly the shoe fell before him, burnt sizzling, along with that horrid odor of burnt rubber! The stranger spoke as Abram demonstrated despair, sitting on the floor, staring at the upshot of his actions, ‘Dum ass!’ pausing briefly, ‘go to sleep you unfortunate bastard!’ Soothing classical music continued. Creativity¡¦ is it merely the expression of ones ideas, or must it be something that none has ever thought of before? My answer to this question is that neither idea is a proper definition for creativity. To be creative is the ability of the individual to express themselves in a passionate manner that is unique. The expression must be unique in the fact that the way in which it is expressed demonstrates the emotions and feelings of the creator. Also there are other forms of creativity such as inventing in which although the idea itself may not be completely new, or unrelated to something else, but that this idea is a composite of the information, which one has obtained throughout their life. This idea in order to be creative cannot be just a regurgitation of the ideas, but rather it must be an individual perspective. Creativity can be found in every day life in the simplest things, as in the way in which a person observes a flower that they are passing. However, what causes a creative genius is the way in which they express their unique perspective.
Improvisation is a state of being and creation without pre planning. You create something completely new and never be seen before. This can be when someone is acting, dancing, singing, playing music, talking, creating artworks, reacting the moment and response to how they feel. When it works, this can result in the invention of new thought patterns or structure, and new ways to act.
Creativity: creativity allows finding extraordinary ways to carry out a specific action that no one has tried to use and speed of action is greatly increased when using creative tools. It is requires the ability to generate ideas.
