What is a tragic hero? A tragic hero is described to be a man of a noble stature or is very important in society, who has a fatal flaw called ’hamartia’, that leads to their downfall. Very often a tragic hero’s fate is controlled by the flaw called the ’peripeteia’. A tragic hero usually has a large capacity of suffering and end up emotionally or spiritually wounded. A tragic hero is human and makes mistakes, but they are not responsible for their flaw.

Growing up after the divorce of his parents, Cobain lived with many relatives, including his mother and father, and due to his anger and rebellious acts he was sent to live elsewhere after a week. Cobain ended up living with both sets of grandparents and four sets of aunts and uncles within a year and finally went back to live with his mother after his father had packed his bags and left him at the doorstep. Cobain mentions in a journal entry about moving in with his mother and doing drugs for the first time, he wrote “And in eighth grade, my mom had no choice to take me in because my dad packed my stuff and drove me to her house in the morning and left me there. She was pissed. I accumulated quite a healthy complex, not to mention a complexion. Then one day I discovered the most ultimate form of expression ever… Marijuana” (Montage of Heck). Cobain was and still is a common focal point to many underground bands after his death. Cobain took his thoughts and poured them into lyrics for his angst listeners to lose themselves in them. Cobain also was a feminist and an LGBT activist, on one occasion Cobain said “At this point, I have a request for our fans. If any of you in any way hate homosexuals, people of different color, or women, please do this one favor for us — leave us alone!
