Holiday Windows and Brands Window
Winter is my favorite season because many holidays happen from November to January such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. During the holiday, we are living in a exciting and happy atmosphere, especially in New York City. When I was walking on the fifth avenue, I saw the Saks Fifth Avenue windows provide more elements for Christmas time. This year the window’s theme is “The Winter Palace”. However, I cannot see the same Christmas elements in other store’s windows such as Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, and Fendi. After I visited these store’s window, I figured out why the windows are different. Because Saks has different purpose and history with other store.
Saks’ Winter Palace contains world’s greatest

natural and man-made wonders. It begins with white Eiffel Tower to a frozen pyramid then an icy Colosseum, a snowy Great Wall of China. Finally, it finishes with a frozen Great Barrier Reef. The designers also transform these wonders to women and they wear global brand’s clothes. Those beautiful clothes lift windows to another top fashion level. On the other hand, the famous brand store’s windows are way more minimal than Saks’ windows. Normally, they use simple background and elements to decorate their bags and clothes. The designers place the important products in the middle of the window or surrounding by the decorations. In the color category, their backgrounds usually are pure color such as white, black, and red. Saks Fifth Avenue Christmas windows display has really achieve their goal since their goal is to become a famous site in New York City during Christmas time, instead of advertising their products.
Before I arrived at Saks, I can see bright pure white lights shining along the street. The brightness really attract my attention and lead me toward there. The lights are useful technique to allure visitors from far away. While I was walking toward the Saks, I hear the Christmas music gradually. The music switches my mood to holiday mood and leads me to a Christmas environment. However, if I were the designer, I would turn off the music. Even though the music cause me feel more like in Christmas time, the car horn and the sound of ambulance mix with the music make me a little bit annoyed. But others seem like enjoy in the music. The “Winter Palace” is a special part of the window display. Other windows are also as elegant as the special windows. My favorite one is the “Snow Queen”. She wears a white wedding gown, which is from Vera Wang with a giant sliver crown, and sit on a long dinner table. The table is full of white and sliver dessert. Many strands of pearls twine around the pendent lamp, and the lamp drops on the celling. Base on the decoration, the woman seem like have the control of the snow. I can see the power from the dress, the crown and the fur scarf. The giant silver crown makes she looks more powerful than without it. Additional, the blue violet light provide more
coolness and more winter atmosphere. If the designer only use white lamp to light up the window, the window would be less accretive than now. Overall, Saks Fifth Avenue’s window display 2015 is a really successful events. It attract lots of visitors and many people come to New York in Christmas time for these window displays. Also, I really admire that Saks has this traditional culture for window displays and they keep improving this events every year. Even though other store’s window displays are not as fancy as Saks’, they have their own purpose of doing it such as advertising their products. As I saw their window, I cannot feeling any Christmas energy providing from them. However, I can see the dresses, jewelry, and hand bags more clear than the products in Saks’ window. Their windows are really simple but elegant at same time. They don't have lots of elements to decorate they window, and the background color are usually white, black, and carmine. Therefore, the products can easily stand out from the background and attract viewers attention. My favorite store’s window display is Hermes’. Because it is very simple as Coco Chanel said,“less is more.” Especially, It was very hard to see clean space in this messy city. Also, the flowing lines on the background are very beautiful. Those lines are build up by using badminton rackets and the balls. I really like the designer’s idea of using white elements in front of the white background to give more movement to this window and also don't take over the attention from the products. The placement of the products is very professional. The designer placed light products such as hand bag and hat at where have more badminton rackets for balancing the perspective. If we switch the mannequin with the bag the right side window will feel heavier than the right side. This window display is an interesting display also useful for advertising the products at same time. The window displays are not only a place to display the products but also provide more energy to some holidays. Saks Fifth Avenue’s window displays become famous. They attract more viewers to this event because of the expensive gowns and elaborate decoration. Other stores’ window displays are not as famous as Saks’. But they also achieve they purpose for selling the products and making the products more elegant in display.

The artist John leech was the responsible to illustrated "the Ghost of Christmas Present" used in the first edition of a Christmas Carol, 1843, and wrote by the popular Charles Dickens. the illustration subject is about Christmas and was made of watercolor over pencil on paper. I believe that the importance of this art is to show a realistic composition about what's going on the story using Christmas symbols. Leech was representing a Christmas God who seems to brings help or an advice to the old men who seems insecure, also there is a spirit above the old men head, who seems like if is watching the conversation.
Nordstrom retail stores have large hallways, and everything is presented in a very classy manner. The color scheme includes pale yellows, whites, and gold, to provide a more elegant appearance in the store in order to make the shopped feel special. The design is also seen through product organization. Compared to stores like Macy’s, which organize their products based on brand, Nordstrom organizes their products based on lifestyle. Because of this, it is easier for shoppers to find clothes similar to their style as opposed to by brand. In effect, shoppers will purchase more products. This also is a type of experiential retailing, where Nordstrom customers are able to experience the elements of their lifestyle within one section. More so, the product presentation will draw people’s eyes to products, even if they are not looking for it. This gives Nordstrom a competitive advantage in relation to other similar retail stores because it makes their store look more glamorous and high-end. While other stores may focus on value, Nordstrom utilizes the retail positioning strategy to make a customer feel more high-end and

In the fictional play, A Christmas Carol: Scrooge and Marley, by Israel Horovitz, Scrooge’s first impression is not very good. He refuses to donate to the poor, he dismisses family who want a relationship, and he is miserable and tries to make others the same way. When two men come to see Scrooge, they were asking for donations for the poor. Scrooge, being one of the wealthiest people in the community, is very dismissive, wrongfully so, and asks the two men to leave empty handed. When Scrooge asks if there are workhouses for the poor to go to, the men explain that most people would rather die than to go there. In response Scrooge states, “If they would rather die, than they had better do it and decrease the surplus in population.” (649) When
Her very warm outfit gives the picture a sense of emotion that can affect the audience outlook of the perfume on oneself. The lighting filter emphasizes shades shown by the product notifying that this is the best a woman can receive. The lighting looks to be coming from the sun angled downward on the woman and, the field of flowers colors’ blends in to give the flowers a more delicate look as women would look at them. The flowers’ colors have similar warmth matching the lighting. If the colors were to be an off color not matching the lighting, the photo would lose its focus of the warm tone the advertisement is bringing because of the different tone the color brings. The lighting on to the flowers causes the flowers to pop out more than other items due to the slight color difference; this pop out affection connects to the perfume name “poppy.” The lighting makes her stand out, making her the overall focus. The audience grabs an idea of how the flowers smell and wants to be involved in the peace that her body language portrays. The woman when wearing this perfume receives that power but still have a gentle image. The lighting being her power, which causes her to stand out, gives the audience a reason to receive the strong light in their life also. Women are expected to be loving and peaceful people to maintain an image for society, but also wants to have a powerful structure, however it’s hard to not be perceived as overly dominate woman living up to myths , that a good life consists of buying possessions and our body is not good enough toward
In designing the buildings, the storefront is a key focus, with its large public doors, heavy use of glass, display windows, and entrance signage. Much like today, a storefront often serves as its own advertisement to pedestrians or drivers passing by and as such becomes a heavy focus for a store’s design. As in the case of the Kress stores they established their brand in a shiny gold handwritten font over a green back...
In the clip “The Not So Secret Santa” from the television show The Office US it shows that gift giving has a relationship with greed and the feeling of power/importance. This relates to greed because Michael gives his co worker Ryan a gift that was extremely over budget meanwhile he received a single mitten that would not benefit him in the future. Realizing that he has given a gift away that someone would benefit from and receiving something resembling little to no value to him. The type of gift he received caused him to become enraged with everyone and decided to change the game so that he would still have a chance of to benefit by being able to trade his useless gift for something more valuable. Michael shows that he believes that he is
People have celebrated a mid-winter festival since pre-historic times. They marked the beginning of longer hours of daylight with fires and ritual offerings. The Roman festival of Saturnalia -- a time for feasting and gambling -- lasted for weeks in December. Germanic tribes of Northern Europe also celebrated mid-winter with feasting, drinking and religious rituals.
The elements of visual merchandising should comprise the artistic bend that should completely define the orderliness of the store. Every optical dispensary of the store should benefit from these elements from good visual merchandising. The store should develop an imitable ‘visual sense’ through these elements.
Christmas is a holiday celebrated by many nations and religions around the world. The spirit of Christmas causes people to come together. It is one of the most favorite times of the year involving gift giving and merry making. To celebrate Christmas people decorate their homes, churches, and other buildings in which fellowship may take place. They may do this with ribbon, holly, mistletoe, and decking them with silver and gold. But where did all these traditions originate? Now, many believe that Christmas is the celebration of Jesus's birth. The truth is that all of these customs from Christmas pre-date our Lord's birth entirely! Christmas today is just a collection of traditions put together to make the holiday we celebrate every year on December
As I skim through the Chadwick’s mail-order catalog, I come across a woman, who looks as if she is in her mid-thirties, standing outside on the snow-covered ground. Her gloved hand is arched back in a ready-to-throw position with a snowball resting in her palm. The woman is wearing a ¾ length gray wool coat and black leather gloves, which catches my eye. The serene, white-topped leaves of the pine trees lean in different directions, waiting for spring to arrive. “Winter is a breeze if you buy this coat” is the message I receive from this friendly-gestured woman. This warm, easy feeling especially comes into play during the holiday season when we buy gifts for our friends and family.
Christmas is the most popular holiday in all of the land. Mostly everyone loves Christmas. There are three categories of Christmas people. Number one; the haters. They despise Christmas and think it is the devil and nothing good comes from lying to children and giving gifts for absolutely no reason at all. Number two; the average person. The ones who just buy the gifts, wear the holiday sweaters, and go to the annual Christmas gathering at Grandma’s where gifts and laughs are exchanged. Number three; the die hard Santa’s of the group. The few mothers or fathers who decorate the day after Halloween to get into the Christmas spirit. The tree is up on November first and the Christmas lights are hung all year round. They make sure to go black friday shopping to get everyone a gift, even cousin Nicholas, who is three times removed. Christmas is
