Christian’s Perspectives on the Issue of Abortion The word abortion means to terminate the life of a child by undergoing surgery. No matter what opinion you have on abortion, this fact remains constant and should not go unnoticed. There are two types of abortion, procured and spontaneous. Procured abortion is deliberate and consented by the mother of the unborn baby. A spontaneous abortion however is another term for a miscarriage. It is not deliberate and can happen for a number of reasons. Some of the reasons are: stress, illness, accidents, drug abuse or even injury. The main difference of these two types of abortion is that one happens through choice, and one does not. The bible teaches many things about the sanctity of life. Christians believe that human life is sacred. This originates from the idea that God is holy; he creates life and does not make mistakes. There are many quotes in the bible which help to address the way in which god would look upon the issue of abortion. “I have called you by your name, you are mine” This quotation is suggesting that we belong to god, that our lives are in his hands and only he has the power to take them away from us. “Even if a mother forgets the child of her womb, I will never forget you. See, I have carved your name on the palm of my hand” This quotation from the bible is against the idea of deliberate abortion; however it states that even if your mother disposes and forgets you, you are still in god’s heart and he loves you and will never forget you. “Before you were born I knew you were called to birth – I consecrated you” This quotation selected from the bi... ... middle of paper ... ... my little ones, you do to me” This quotation was one which came from Jesus himself. Jesus refers to the children as ‘My little ones’ which suggests they belong to him. So it is basically saying that if you are to harm one of Jesus’ children, then you are harming him in the process, as his children are a part of him. All of these quotations which address the issue of abortion are taken into account and they help people to understand the Christians perspectives on abortion, and why they feel so strongly upon the matter. Jesus was given the gift of life from God, he was born of the Immaculate Conception, he was born free of sin and lived his life like all of God’s children should, and we are all gods’ children, so by depriving some of his children of their gift, we are harming out father in the process too.

Christian Responses to Abortion and Euthanasia Different Christians have different viewpoints on the issues of Abortion and Euthanasia. The Church of England states that life is god given and is to be; ‘Nurtured, supported and protected. ’ It views ending a human life at the beginning or end as; ‘A great moral evil.’ Also they have stated a case for ‘The rights of humans to be valued.’

What is abortion? Abortion is the direct and purposeful taking of the life of a human being inside the womb. The church teaches that abortion is forbidden just as murder is forbidden. As Catholics we believe that all life is sacred from the moment of conception till death, and the killing of a human being unborn or born is morally wrong and we are to go against abortion.

For many years, the morality of abortion has been questioned by two perspectives: pro-choice and pro-life. While modern culture explains that abortion is a woman’s free choice if she does not want the unborn baby, the Catholic Church teaches the world that from the moment of conception there is a child with a soul within the womb, and to abort it would be to murder an innocent being.

One of the most controversial issues in this day and age is the stance people take on abortion. The two main positions that people take are either of pro-choice or pro-life; both sides, although polar opposites, tend to refer to both the issue of morality and logical rationale. The pro-life side of the debate believes that abortion is an utterly immoral practice that should be abolished. On the contrary, abortion should remain a legal procedure because it is a reproductive right; its eradication would not only take away the pregnant person’s autonomy, but would also put more children in financially unstable homes and the adoption system, and would cause an increase in potentially fatal, unsafe abortions.
