Many people believe that today’s Christians are too sheltered and oblivious to the real world around them. When asked, many outsiders compared today’s Christians to “The Titanic - a ship about to sink, but unaware of its fate” or “a hobby that diverts people’s attention” (Kinnaman 120). It is important Christians to not just stay secluded in one group (church group), but to be talking to others (outsiders) so we are aware of the problems and thing that are going on in the world around us. As Christians we are called to be disciples of Jesus by reaching out to those in need, praying for those around us, and calling people to become the church. In “Unchristian” David Kinnaman outlines three main things we as Christians should include in our lives: accepting responsibility, not being fearful, helping the desperate, being prepared, and keeping a balance. …show more content…
In the bible it says that we are the light of the world, the salt and the light. We are called to engage people through Christ and to be united as one as the church. Although this doesn’t necessarily mean that it is easy to do so. It is our duty as Christians to help remedy a broken world, but it takes effort. Our responsibility is to do this with humility and energy without expecting it to be accomplished right away because it takes time. Along with responsibility, we are also called to not be fearful. What does this mean? Many Christians shelter themselves out of fear from the things around them. The ideal action we would take as God’s people would be to help those in need, but like the Good Samaritan parable in the Bible, many would not help those in need. It is not always easy to see Christ in the people around us because we are human and we are not perfect. Dorothy explains this statement when she says, “It would be foolish to pretend that it is easy always to remember this” (Room for Christ 2). We need to make room in our hearts for Christ, and also the people that presented to us as Christ.

The message of political alignment is a vast and varying concept, one that will be debated for as a long as party divisions exist. This divide however exists in not just the Christian community. We begin with the metaphor of a shepherds flock, blindly following what an individual says over ones own thinking. Boyd furthers this concept of alignment and how “many who left sincerely believe there is little ambiguity in how true Christian faith translates into politics. I listen mostly to Christian radio, this is especially true when I am in my car driving to and from work. Today I just so happened to get a little clip of a show on Moody radio called “The land and the book by Dr. Charlie Dyer.” They were talking to a couple who are ministering in the Middle East to Muslims and Christians. They talk about the fear that Christians have in preaching the “Good New” outside of the church in Syria, and how much persecution/genocide is happening there. (Moody Radio, 2014) Although I knew that the world was having trouble it didn’t quite sink in until this point. Becoming a Christian has changed my view on the world; I would have never thought twice about these issues until I opened my heart to Jesus Christ. In this essay I will talk about the Apostle Paul’s writings to the people in Rome on the matters the natural world (Adams sin, the evidence of God’s power, etc.), human identity (Our identity through Christ), human relationship (Paul’s relationship with the people, and God), and culture (Jewish circumcision, the Abrahamic covenant)
“The Next Christendom: The Coming of Global Christianity” by Philip Jenkins examines the change in global Christianity from being a predominantly Euro-American religion and tracks its fast spread in the South. The thesis of the book is that Christianity has dramatically shifted South to the continents of Africa, Asia, and Latin America and is rapidly growing in those regions while declining in the West.

After reading The Next Christendom by Philip Jenkins I found that this book reminded me of a memorable passage from the movie Apollo Thirteen: a military man in the tense Houston control shares with a political figure his forewarning that the tragedy before will be the catastrophic moment for the space program Mission control flight chief Gene Kranz overhears their conversation and addresses it: 'With all due respect, gentleman, I believe this will be our finest hour.' This summarizes the book quiet well as the apparent demise of the western church (when the day comes) is forecasting on its fate over against the perceived adversaries of secularism and post-modernism. Jenkins reminds us that when view through a wide-screen lens so to speak, the inherent threat often yields to a broad outlook of opportunity, painting a clear picture of the future of Christianity in colors unaccustomed to American thinking, outlining the characteristics of the fast growing Christian churches that are outside of Western Europe and US. Jenkins also shows the possibility of conflicts between Christianity and other major religions (such as Islam or Hinduism). Speculating what affects this will have on established churches of having a Christian majority outside the west. The basic premise of this book I think is simply: the heart of Christendom has moved from the northern hemisphere to the southern hemisphere, what is surprising about this premise is that the northern hemisphere did not see the move, and still deny that it is moving.

Having a Christian worldview is hard enough in American but add in the entire world and it can be a little trickier. Thinking Christianly has a major impact on how someone would do business overseas, in a global economy. When it comes to a Christian worldview in a global economy there are numerous issues that can come up. Different countries and cultures have different things that they deem acceptable; however, when you are looking at it from a Christian standpoint you may have to handle things in a different manner. Just because something is acceptable or legal in the world does not make it acceptable to someone with a Christian worldview. John 17:17 says that, "The word is truth," so when one is looking for direction and guidance in any aspect of business he will always know that the word of God is truth that he can turn to. Although the field of business has many negative connotations with Christianity there are also positive ones. There are two main issues that this paper will address. The first issue, pollution, can be view negatively. The second issue, job opportunities, can be view positively.

The misconception of what God wants us to do with our lives is shown in today’s youth. An example of this is simply looking at the effects of life today. Children and adults everywhere are turning against one another and resulting in violence. Typically, when asked to describe a Christian words like self-centered, hate, and hypocritical flash through the mind as qualities. This is where the stereotypical response is wrong. Being a Christian does not mean the feeling of hatred towards everyone who sins is present, or that every action is hypocritical to what is being said. Christians often go as the unheard group of people due to the disbelief in what is said. Consequently, the persecution of God’s Word happens daily when the heart of one of His children dies without ever knowing Him. A Christian does not mean that life is perfect and that going to church every Sunday makes a person one. In reality, attendance at church, but not grasping to the message being told serves no purpose at all. The book entitled The Christian Home, by P. D. Wilmeth, is, quite obviously, a book written to inform Christian men and women how they ought to conduct themselves in the home as is meet for a disciple of the Christ. Within the confines of this book lie many truths found in God’s Word that are, without a doubt, of the utmost importance to a Christian father, mother, husband, and mother. While it is explicitly stated within the preface that the author’s writing cannot be “all things to all men” I feel as though he succeeded in that which he set out to accomplish.
For those of you who are going on to another Christian community, I challenge you to be the different ones. Christian groups too often say, "yeah, praise God," and then not always walk in His steps. They see Christianity as just obeying the big rules instead of a daily faith relationship with God. They might even ask you to do subtle things that break God's rules. Take that extra step and really be a leader. Be the one person that everyone can look up to and say that you have the love of Jesus in your heart. Show them that you are truly on fire for God.
On the other hand, Christians have responsibilities. Being filled with the Spirit, believers can walk in humility, contentment, purity, faith, love, as well as being a light to a world that is blind (Alderman 94). Jesus commands believers to “make disciples of all nations immersing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Ruach ha-Kodesh [Holy Spirit]” (Matthew 28:19 TLV). Christians have to live in the Spirit to achieve this. “For the flesh sets its desire against the Ruach [Spirit], but the Ruach [Spirit] sets its desire against the flesh” (Galatians 5:17 TLV).
The conclusion of the book suggests practical ways Christians should participate in building the kingdom of God. Essentially, he points out the active nature of waiting. This includes bringing justice to the fallen world, recognizing the beauty in creation and working to reserve it, and spreading the gospel message of Christ. Christians can do those things because of hope, more specifically, the “hope for life before death” (p. 231).
