Nurses are an essential part of the healthcare system and the society. Nurses require special knowledge, preparation and skill, in their profession. They must have adequate training on issues that pertain to handling patients, medicine and medical records among other issues. Nursing profession requires an advanced knowledge and skills that it outgrows the needs of any society for special services. Nursing profession is a calling because it involves a lot of sacrifice of personal time, patient, discipline, values, ethics and other essential qualities. Nurses provide help, support and care to human beings irrespective of their gender, social status, financial status and the position they occupy in the society. Therefore, nurses should care for the whole patient. Christian nurses enter the profession more as a calling than a duty. Christian nurses undertake their work and responsibilities with the code of ethics of nursing and professional practice. However, the Christian values and the expectations of Christian faith. The Christian faith and values require a person to handle others with love, care and discipline. The values of the Christian faith guide an individual and the profession that he or she decides to take (Doornbos & Et.al, 2005). In conclusion, the nursing profession requires people who can persevere and sacrifice their time and service, for other people. A Christian nurse should provide for emotional, physical and spiritual health of patients with respect to Christian teachings and nursing code of conduct and ethics. A nurse should understand the core values of nursing, to effectively manage patients and offer them appropriate care.

Whether these elderly, adults, teens or children are taken to a hospital, pediatrician, specialist, or clinic, a doctor and a nurse will tend to them. The nurse plays a role that is just as important as the doctor. Nurses work very closely with the families as part of the caring process. Every member of the family plays a role in different ways. The nurses are there to help the patient as well as the family step through the illness or injury. They provide information for the prevention of future illness and injury, and help to comfort the patient and his/her family. It is important professionally to be sensitive to others, colleagues or patients, while not compromising one’s own values and creating distress. Recognizing that I personally and professionally provide an example of standards valuable to the nursing profession is important on this journey to advanced practice nursing.
