Have you ever thought about the ways you worship God? Using worship through theatre, art, and music should be used as a way to glorify God. Even though these three forms of the arts are distinctly different, they have similarities when it comes to Christian worship. Each one conveys some type of Biblical story, but it is done in its own unique way. The performers and the artists will do certain things that are pleasing to their target audience. For example, in theatre they will decide what parts of the story to depict, in art they might portray Jesus as an African American, and in music the style can change for the audience. Theatre first began in early churches. It was a way to communicate Biblical stories because the people could not read. Today theatre is still used to portray the Biblical story, but it is used more for a physical representation of what is taking place throughout the Bible. These stories can be taken straight from scripture and are acted out. I have experienced Biblical stories, such as the resurrection and stories about Easter at my church. I attended a production that was all about this topic. They showed many of the scenes that led up to this, such as healing the little girl who was dead. This was an experience where I had a visual of what was taking place in the Bible and I was at a young age, so it allowed for a better understanding of the death of Christ and his resurrection. It is the most common worship style found in Christian churches today. The messages will not change throughout history even though the musical style will. Christ have mercy is a terminology that many worship songs still include throughout today’s contemporary culture. I have experienced this concept in the worship songs I hear and even when I think about the messages behind many other songs. Therefore, this shows that the message will stay the same to connect with the audience in the society. Music is a form where people are able to directly talk to God and worshiping Him. I love the idea of music in the church. For me, I have experienced this in two contrary settings. At my home church it is a lot of hymns and older worship style. I have a hard time relating to this music because it is not what I listen to on a daily basis. My church at school is a contemporary worship setting and I love this style of worship. It allows for me to connect with God and praise Him in a way that I had never experienced at my home church. I have personally noticed that more people in this church appreciate a contemporary style of worship, no matter the age range. I think the culture has helped shaped that with radio station, like K-Love, where people hear the contemporary songs. Finally, music allows for unity with the Body of Christ.
