A Pioneer on a Religious Journey
Many historical figures have shaped the way we live today. We look back as a society and learn from their mistakes and achievements that have made them who they are and always will be. Most importantly, we never forget what has made them so special in our minds. Mary Baker Eddy was one of the many who made history because of her great deeds and accomplishments. Nonetheless, she is not famous to many people because of what she was, but she is famous for what she has left our world. The greatest individuals are those who leave their work for others to discover.
As we view historical figures in society, we classify them as someone who is famous and has done many great things to earn such a label. Nevertheless, it is hard to pinpoint exactly where Mary Baker Eddy made herself famous in history. Did she become famous for being a religious leader? Did she become known as someone of greatness because she founded her own religion and established a church to represent her discovery? Mary Baker Eddy might have accomplished many great triumphs in her lifetime, however many view that her greatest achievement would by far be what she has left for the world. She has left a religion that has doubled in churches and memberships and is growing larger by the year (287 Powell). She has left a book that has touched millions in ways that one might have never imagined. Although she might have left us many years ago, biographer Sibyl Wilbur views Mrs. Eddy as "a major religious figure of the 20th century and as a notable example of the emergence of women in significant leadership roles"(vii). What she learned through her study of the Bible that impelled her to expand and share her knowledge with others, is not what only makes her a famous person in many people's minds. She has left much of her work for the world to discover daily. Reading, speaking, and learning about her religion based on the scriptures, many feel blessed for her existence.
As mankind journeys through life, none will forget the love and unselfish deeds of Mrs. Eddy whom have been touched by her word and works. She is special because she has left her work for others to discover. The religion of Christ Scientist grows daily, while many learn more about the healing power of prayer and the unselfish work of Mary Baker Eddy. A historical figure in many hearts she will always be.
Mary did a lot of things that women wouldn't really do at those times, like becoming a educator about sex and birth control, and creating a big organization. Mary was a good leader because she was a very strong women. She knew that if she worked hard she can get things done on time and she can gain knowledge of anything and everything. She believed in women's rights. She was also an American women's right activist (Englehart,2013). The only mistake that Mary made was the lack of support she gave to people thought by a person named Sanger. A dancer, singer, activist and spy, Josephine Baker was a star and a hero. Baker grew up poor, but her rocky start did not hold her back from success. Baker had major achievements for a black woman in her time; she was the first African-American to star in a major film. Baker was first to integrate a concert in Las Vegas. Even though Baker got her start during the Harlem Renaissance, her true claim to fame was her success in France. She was the first black woman to receive military honor in France. Since Baker was so successful in Europe, she was able to spy for the French resistance during World War II. Although Baker was very successful in France and had found success during the Harlem Renaissance, she was not welcomed in the United States due to segregation and racism. Racism did not stop Baker from being a part of the Harlem Renaissance.

Josephine Baker was an exceptional woman who never depended on a man. She never hesitated to leave a man when she felt good and ready. In her lifetime she accomplished many great things. She adopted 12 children, served France during World War II, and was an honorable correspondent for the French Resistance.
Sojourner Truth has overcome many obstacles in her life, which have made her the great historical icon that she is today. She will always be remembered for her courage and bravery that helped make a difference. Sojourner has made many sacrifices in her life that has not only benefited herself, but many others.
While comparing her time, theology and spiritual practice we realize she lived during the time of immense change, similarly we are living on the edge of a challenged modernity. Her spiritual direction allows us to recognize and develop further abilities in our pastoral ministries of caring for one another as participants within the corporate communities as well as within the mission fields.
As you can see, Mary Ritter Beard was an extraordinary leader who left behind a significant legacy through her strong feminist leadership. She influenced the world today in several ways, and will never be forgotten because of the many admirable qualities she showed throughout the years.
Mother Teresa was one of the most renowned humanitarians of her time. She dedicated her life to other people never to herself. She had many missions throughout her lifetime and was well known throughout the world. Mother Teresa was a kind-hearted woman whose quest was to make this world a better place.
She started with nothing, being the poorest of poor and grew to be a media giant. She overcame poverty, neglect, sexual abuse and racism. Through it all she never gave up and this is why she will inspire others to do the same.
St.Marianne Cope spent the majority of her life taking care of the lepers on the island of Molokai. Saint Marianne Cope inspires me to become a better person by helping others not only in my community, but outside as well. I inspire to be as caring and thoughtful as Saint Marianne was. When Saint Marianne's dad passed away she didn't turn to misbehavior nor delinquency, but she turned to the pure religious life. Marianne has taught me that when I experience some hard and emotion moments, not to breakout and throw a "fit", but turn to the love of God. Making me realize that God is not only our father but our comforter through the good and bad times.
Without doubt, Helen Keller is now a household name in nearly every part of the world (too bad she could never hear it.) Helen Keller faced many childhood and adulthood difficulties, and remains to be seen as an extremely positive influence for all women. From my perspective, she was a hardworking activist with her own personal views and opinions despite her ailments. Keller is a true role model for all women – especially those with their own diseases or disabilities. Feminists of all ages could look to the path Keller made for them in the world of women suffrage and equality.
Christian Science is an idealistic and most radical form of transcendental religiosity. The study of Christian Science teaches a feeling of understanding of God's goodness and the differences between good and evil, life and death. The purpose of this paper is to address how the study of Christian Science helps us better understand the impact of globalization in America, as well as the impact of American on globalization. This paper is important because globalization features a dominant worldview. All throughout the world people believe, study and teach different types of religious movements that impact others. People need to better understand how certain religions modify, conflict with, and impact the world. First, it will discuss the life and work of the founder, Mary Baker Eddy. Secondly, it will examine the primary rituals and religious services of the Christian Science movement. Then, it will outline the precursors and history of the religion. In the conclusion, a response will be offered to the question of how Christian Science helps us better understand the impact of globalization on America and of America on globalization.
New insights gathered about Ellen White which enhanced my appreciation of her ministry would have to be her acknowledgement of her tribulations and the idiosyncrasies which she battled with for a considerable amount of time. Instead of portraying herself to be a person excluded from the message envisioned to her, Ellen White admits her short comings, as noted in a 1876 letter to her husband, and even takes pleasure in her tribulations as she only saw them as moments that drew her closer to Christ. Although her inclusion of her short comings and genuine philanthropy creates likability and compatibility for her audience, her focus on and adhering to the Word of God as the way she overcame makes her ministry compelling due to ability to substitute oneself into her position and then find the solution to your problem.

At first glance, many facets of science and religion seem to be in direct conflict with each other. Because of this, I have generally kept them confined to separate spheres in my life. I have always thought that science is based on reason and cold, hard facts and is, therefore, objective. New ideas have to be proven many times by different people to be accepted by the wider scientific community, data and observations are taken with extreme precision, and through journal publications and papers, scientists are held accountable for the accuracy and integrity of their work. All of these factors contributed to my view of science as objective and completely truthful. Religion, on the other hand, always seems fairly subjective. Each person has their own personal relationship with God, and even though people often worship as a larger community with common core beliefs, it is fine for one person’s understanding of the Bible and God to be different from another’s. Another reason that Christianity seems so subjective is that it is centered around God, but we cannot rationally prove that He actually exists (nor is obtaining this proof of great interest to most Christians). There are also more concrete clashes, such as Genesis versus the big bang theory, evolution versus creationism, and the finality of death versus the Resurrection that led me to separate science and religion in my life. Upon closer examination, though, many of these apparent differences between science and Christianity disappeared or could at least be reconciled.
