Holocaust Research Paper The Holocaust was a very painful time period in our world’s history that started in the early 1930’s until the mid 1940’s. It targeted mainly Jewish people, but other groups such as the mentally disabled and homosexual people, as well. According to factslides.com, about a third of all Jewish people alive during that time period were murdered in the Holocaust. Adolf Hitler, the leader or dictator of the Holocaust, only wanted people with blonde hair and blue eyes to be alive in this world, even though he had dark hair himself. Moreover, the death count of Jews totaled more than 6 million throughout the entire duration of the Holocaust between gas chambers, death camps, ghettos, and shooting operations (“Holocaust 2016” 1). Chiune Sugihara played an important role in saving the lives of Jews during the Holocaust. Though, Chiune Sugihara wasn’t raised into a famous family, during the Holocaust he created himself an infamous future. On January 1, 1900 in Gifu Prefecture of the Chubu Region, Chiune Sugihara was born (“Chiune (Sempo) Sugihara” 1). He grew up in a household with four brothers and one sister. Chiune Sugihara helped thousands of Jews by issuing them counterfeit travel visas to allow them to migrate to Japan. It is very difficult for someone like me in this day in age to understand how it felt to live during the Holocaust, but this project makes me realize how many people lost their lives during this time period. Without Chiune Sugihara, many more people would have lost their lives during this difficult time of our world’s history. What Sugihara did for the Jews during the Holocaust earned him world
