1.1 Chip Sealing Chip seals have been used since the year 1920’s in the United States when they were used as a stratum for low volume gravel roads. Since then it has been used proudly both as a new paving process and as a precautionary handling treatment for existing pavements. In Iceland, chip sealing was first used in 1978 when a 15 km section was paved in southern Iceland. Chip seals are mostly used on low volume roadways with ADT<5,000 although some nations like South Africa and Australia use it on higher volume roads with ADT up to 50,000. The main factor most agencies have a limit on traffic volume for chip seals is because of traffic control. If speed can be limited for adequate amount of time, there are no limits on traffic volume. Prior to there is any opinion of design methodology, it must be unequivocal that the selection of those roads that will advantage from the pavement preservation technique vested with chip sealing is the first and most elemental step in the design method. It is most commonly applied on top of an existing pavement to protect it from wearing of tire, to inhibit water penetrating through it, and to armature it from the sun. Chip sealing also entrust the roadway a macrotexture that rises skid counteraction of the stratum. The underlying pavement has to be in fair or good stipulation for the chip sealing to work effectively. Large rift or exorbitant hazard in the current pavement will minimize the service life of the chip seal. Pit and fissure sealants are tooth coloured materials that are applied on the occlusal surfaces of the posterior teeth in deep grooves, pits and fissures. They protect the tooth from various bacterial plaques in these caries prone areas of the teeth. The sealants protect these areas by sealing of the entrance to bacteria which give rise to dental caries in susceptible individuals especially in children. Pit and fissure sealants are now commonly being used due to the increase in the awareness among public about dental caries prevention

Even the creation of Botts’ painted road markers had to take into account not only the chemistry of the paint, but also some earth science techniques. He decided elevating the road markers to allow water to drain off of them would be the best option, so that the color does not fade. The “Botts’ Dots” are still the design used for road markers today.

Road to the Stamping Ground is a very inspirational documentary. In my opinion, many people should always go out of where they are from to get new ideas and to experience what others are doing around the world. Sometimes, seeing what others are doing can be a very eye opening experience because you see things that you never would have thought of, and in this case this choreographer noticed something unique about the dancers he was paying close attention to. These dancers that he was watching were stomping in a certain way that he had never seen. He then wondered why they were stomping a certain way and how the different noises impacted their dance.

According to §2 para. 6 No. 2 of the German food law, cosmetic packaging materials are viewed as items for everyday and common use. The Regulation 1223/2009 provides assurance to consumers that the product they use is safe for application. The reference 1935/2004 was suggested to portray close formulation/packaging combinations that are already present in the market. Therefore, with this, food/packaging interaction may be contemplated. Since materials manufactured for the packaging of food products have already undergone several tests, suitable information regarding the stability of that material may already be accessible. Hence further experimental procedures may not be necessary. The 1935/2004 regulation is not normally used for cosmetic packaging. However, without the presence of any other established guidelines, this regulation is used to check the congruity of the packaging. For instance the packaging material of cosmetic products are compared with and judged against the packaging of food items. Verification in the shipping document is done by the food control agency or the supplier company to show that the packaging material

Take a look at a good example of a slick and a normal street tire. The little holes on the slick are to check how much slick is left on the tire, since tires tend to ware on the edges faster. The gaps in the normal tires allow the tire to transfer water away from the tire, so the tire can make contact with the road. Goodyear makes a slick that is grooved for racing in the rain, but only crazy (Indy, F1) people do that!
