Introduction :

The “neglect of neglect” has been recognized for over two decades (Wolock & Horowitz, 1984), yet child neglect remains the poor cousin of child maltreatment research. According to government definition of child neglect is, ‘the importunate failure to meet a child’s basic physical or psychological needs, likely to result in the serious impairment of the child’s health or development. It may involve a parent or carer failing to provide adequate food, shelter or clothing, failing to protect a child from physical harm or danger, or the failure to ensure access to appropriate medical care or treatment. A. Topic Sentence 1 :
First and foremost, I would like to highlight about the effects on child’s health and physical development.

1. Supporting Point :
The neglected children are facing many health and physical problems such as impaired brain development, lack of antibiotics in body, skin infections and minor injuries.

a. Specific Detail :
There is a news on daily mail by Paul Donnelley(2014) reports that a mother is jailed for neglecting her 4-year old son in East Lancashire who was found ill in ‘appalling squalor’ at a house that filled with 14 dogs and 20 ferrets.

b. Specific Detail :
When the children are neglected and do not receive proper medication at appropriate time, they will be affected by serious diseases which result in death.

B. Topic Sentence 2 :
Next, I would like to explain about the effects on families that results from child neglect.

Cindy L. et.al (2013) expresses that the children who are neglected are mostly under 3 years old and extremity of child neglect decreases with the children age.
