No kid should ever go through neglect, or any type of abuse. Any slight amount of abuse could effect the kids’ outside of their home life. When a kid feels abused they have trust issues, and affects their academics. Kids should always have someone to talk to, hold them, and say they love them. They should always have someone to look up to and have a good role model. No one should have to deal with child abuse. In the article, “Child Abuse Statistics” it states that there are “40 million children subjected to abuse each year” (“Child Abuse Statistics”). 40 million children are getting either sexually or physically abused all over the world. They seem to target children because they are weaker compared to grown adults, so the adults over power the children. The article “Child Abuse Statistics” states that “One in three girls will be sexually molested before the age of 17” (“Child Abuse Statistics”). It is sad to see that most women have to go through that before the age 17. Child abuse has been around for a long time affecting these children in all different ways. “In 2010 there were 3.3 million child abuse reports all over the world. [That means that there are] 61,000 reports to child protective services per week that eqauls 6 per minute” (“Child Abuse Statistics”). Over 1.5 million runaways are leaving this sort of abuse. However, Iowa does not always follow through with that law. All these following events in the article written by Jason Clayworth happend in the state in Iowa. The first event that occured in Iowa was “A youth minister in council blufs engaged in sexual contact with boys because he said it would hep rid them of gay thoughts” (Clayworth). The second event that happened in Iowa was “A middle school teacher in underwood rubbed himself against a 15 year old girl while pinning her against a classroom map” (Clayworth). Lastly, “A counselor had sex with a teenager while both were at a residential foster care facility in Clorinda” (Clayworth). Going back to the first story it was a youth minister imagine being one of those boys coming back to that church and knowing what had happend while you were in a place that is meant to be safe. Then you have the second story about the teacher and the young teenage girl imagine going back to that class and seeing the one map it all happend on. Jason Clayworth states that “Under Iowa law, as a mandatory reporters of suspected child abuse, all three should have gone to prison but none of them did” (Clayworth). None of the men that did the sexual abuse on those kids went to jail they all got a free pass.
