Introduction What is abuse? Abuse can be considered as emotional, physical, or sexual violence against another person. The United States has the worst child abuse and neglect records in the world. “Children may be subject to a variety of abuse, neglect and maltreatment. It can occur within families, by adults or older children, in the community, by gangs or in an institutional setting. The majority of abuse is by someone known to the child” (Hunt, 7). A child abuse prevention program can help bring awareness to the topic. This prevention program can help the people in the community find alternative ways to discipline their children and identify child abuse. I would encourage that they join the parenting courses so they could learn different techniques to discipline their child, and ways to cope if their child were abused. I would encourage the parents to join the program by expressing that majority of children are abused by people they know, and stress that this is an epidemic, so it is best to know the signs. After stating facts, I would appeal to their emotions and love of their child; our future generation by saying you can help prevent child abuse in this community and all over by knowing the signs and helping children, who are in distress.
Engage Stakeholders
My stakeholders would consist of community members, social workers at child protective services and the local board members. I have carefully chosen this group as stakeholders due to their knowledge in child abuse and their desire to help prevent child abuse.
The child abuse prevention program’s primary stakeholder is the community members. The community members are the people in the community, who are directly being affected by this program. The community members would play a major role in the child abuse prevention program. The members knows the resources the community needs, as well as the community’s reaction to the program. These stakeholder will be indirectly affected by the program. However, the social workers at child protective services want to prevent and educate others on child abuse. Child protective services social workers are important to the prevention program as well. They were chosen as stakeholders due their extensive knowledge of child abuse in that particular community. The social workers can refer the prevention program to some people in the community, who are mandated to attend preventive services.
The prevention program’s key stakeholder the local board members. This stakeholder may belong to both or neither groups of stake holders listed prior. The local board members wield a lot of power in the community, due to their influence and option to encourage change in the community. The local board members are important to this project because they can assure the community that the program is not going to change the community. However, the program will bring child abuse awareness and prevention to the community.
