Recommended: Role of family in prevention of drug abuse

Hello Ava, Thanks for you post. I happen to work with some clients that their children are in care. And one of the common reasons for why their children are removed is based on the fact that they were users and most of the children have been affected. Recently, one of this teenage mum was telling me how she felt so responsible for the state of her child. And we got talking and one thing she mentioned was that she had previous negative experiences with accessing services and so she often felt scared, vulnerable, judged negatively, or was unable to find services that she needed. I had to research this after your post and read that in some provinces where programs that provide services for women living in addiction have had some successful stories

It is true that more adults get diagnosed with cancer than kids, but does that mean that adults are 96% more important than children? The average age of diagnosis for an adult with cancer is age 67, and the average number of years lost is 15. 15 years are definitely many years, but not that many compared to the average number of years lost for a child- 71. Also, age 67 is a lot older than the average age of diagnoses for a child- age 6. At least the adults get to grow up and have the ability to even have cancer- some of these kids can’t even get through a fifth of their lives.
