Few things in this world stand out and have a life changing impact to significantly alter the course of one’s own self. The value that the Chief Petty Officer Academy (CPOA) provided was one in which will never be paralleled again. Walking in to a completely new world of opportunity and responsibility as a brand new Chief Petty Officer, there is no better introduction to the depth and magnitude of what is now expected from me as well as my peers and our collective role as a Chiefs Mess. Transitioning from a task driven, managerial minded FS1 to the leader I am now prepared to be, this has truly changed my career path and life in general and I can justly say that I am now ready to be “The Chief”. While looking inside is sometimes difficult, I was ready and excited for the opportunity to learn and grow as a person. The CPOA afforded me the opportunity to take an unbiased look at my own strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvement and development. Through programs like the DiSC survey, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and even the Stress Management workshop, the inward glace of myself offered me a wealth of valuable information not otherwise available to just anybody. Figuring out where I excel and where I might seek additional support and guidance will truly be an invaluable tool to use in the fleet and ultimately supporting and growing my junior members in their own career climb and molding them to become the future leaders of our …show more content…

The Wellness aspect of CPOA was one to certainly learn and grow from, using the classes on nutrition and group workout routines as a great foundation to live a much more healthy and active lifestyle. As mentioned before, understanding why and how are important to not only myself, but this new generation of Coasties, and being able to provide the resources and firsthand knowledge of what I’ve learned is something I would have never achieved elsewhere. While far from the epitome of health and fitness, I can at least be an example for all the less enthusiastic members as well as my family in learning to live happier and much healthier and ultimately ensure that I will be around for years to come both in and out of the
