Choosing a career can be quite frightening. It is a very important decision, being the starting point into adult life. One career that interests me and that I have thought about pursuing is being a chef. The reason I am interested in this career is because of the ability to cook great tasting food for myself or other people whenever, the challenge of working in a chaotic fast paced kitchen, and the fact that I will not ever get bored on the job. When I was younger, I never really thought about what I wanted to become when I grow up. My parents and family would always steer me towards the direction of being a doctor, a lawyer, or an engineer. All these high paying careers. I was told I was really smart and good at math and solving riddles …show more content…

Being a chef is nowhere near easy. I know this because my dad is a chef. Chefs work long hours and rarely get any days off even on holidays. Chefs have to have the endurance to stand on their feet all day long and work under great pressure in a fast pace. The salary is not all that great either. Things I want to know about being a chef is how to get started and work up to become a good chef. What is the required educational skill level to be a chef and how many years of training is needed. How do you get a job as a chef? Am I supposed to go from restaurant to restaurant asking if they are hiring? Are chefs given job interviews or do are they given a dish to cook and get hired based on the outcome of the dish? There are many questions I have about this topic
Alice with her self sustaining restaurant, friends and family based meals. Taking what the community has to offer and giving right back tenfold! thats what being a chef is. Being a chef really has nothing to do with how efficiently you can butcher half a cow, how perfect your battonet slice is, or how aromatic and golden your basic stock is. Being a chef is being a community leader/activist.

Deciding what career you want to partake in life is defiantly not a straightforward task. One has to choose something they love to do because, in most situations, they will be in that career field for the rest of their life. This is why it is very important to choose something that you love to do and have a passion for. If you treasure the job you have, then you will live a much happier life. In my case, I am deciding to go into the field of electrical and computer science because it is something that is close to my heart. It is also important when choosing what you want to do in life to set goals. These goals will help you to strive for something greater, and they will give you immense satisfaction once you reach them. Everybody has their
My career choice for the future is dog grooming. This career choice interests me because I want a career to do with animals and grooming is an interesting and a seemingly fun career. Although I could do a grooming career with both dogs and cats, I would want to focus more on grooming dogs than cats. With grooming as a career or job you may want to research it to make sure it’s the right fit, as with any long term career. Knowing about a career before you pursue it can help you know if it’s something you want to do in the long run.
In large establishments the duties of the head chef or person in charge are mainly administrative, only in smaller establishments would it be necessary for the headchef to be engaged in the handling of food. However although the production kitchen could be considered a small establishment, for the purpose of learning, the headchef is only involved in administrative duties to experience how the role would be performed in a larger commercial kitchen. Normally the headchef in a restaurant is concerned with duties such as organising the kitchen, engaging the staff, supervising the kitchen and be responsible for the stillroom, washing up of crockery and be responsible for the stores. In the long term purchase of equipment would also be duty of the headchef. This differs slightly in the training kitchen where most emphasis is put on the headchefs ability to engage, supervise and delegate to their peers. The lecturer usually compiles the menu in advance, however the headchef is responsible for allocating the class or staff to different sections of the kitchen.
Being a chef is a wonderfully varied profession. A chef generally supervises a kitchen or a section of a kitchen, overseeing staff, food, menus, and related issues. Someone must pursue some kind of training in order to become a chef. Some people work their way through kitchens, starting at the bottom as apprentices and moving their way into top kitchen positions, while a few chefs will most likely attend culinary academies to learn or progress in their crafts. In a restaurant, or sometimes multiple restaurants, an executive chef will usually oversee all the cooking.
Every career field has its dark secrets that no one wants to talk about, even the best fields that a person could go into. Many people do not understand that there will always be setbacks and problems within a career field and that they need to overcome them. The one career field that no one suspects having dark secrets and problems is the the culinary industry. One of the dark secrets is that this career is difficult for women. A career in the field of culinary arts is hard for women to pursue because they have to choose between their family and their career, there is extreme stress that could lead to mental and physical problems, and there is evident sexism within the industry.

I have also researched the cities that have a high demand for chefs. In five years I plan to be finishing, or to have finished getting my bachelor's degree in Culinary Management. In ten years, I plan to be running a restaurant or to own my own restaurant with either family or a significant other. I also plan to be married in 10 years or en route to be married.
It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to be a chef. However, if one has a passion for cooking it will pay off. I am a creative person and cooking has endless possibilities of creativity, such as the way you make it and the way you plate it. I want to become a chef and hopefully open a restaurant one day. To do that, you need to learn the basic skills. Julia Child once said, “No one is born a great cook, one learns by doing.”
Have you ever tried to cook a delicious meal to impress your friends or family members? Most Americans cook despite the challenge associated with it. It takes courage and bravery to be a chef. An individual must have a passion for cooking and preparing meals from recipes. An experienced chef must have a lot of creativity on the plate and knowledge on the field. However, being a professional chef comes with many obstacles such as, standing in the kitchen for long hours can cause health problems, or the amount of stress a chef deals with can be overwhelmed, and the unhealthy eating habits that leads to overweight and over-eating.
