The story “Checkouts” is about a girl moving to Cincinnati and she left her whole life behind. She didn’t enjoy it at first but she meets this boy called the bag boy at the supermarket. He lights up her eyes and likes her after he drops the jar of mayonnaise which she thought was cute and started to like him. He liked her little orange bow in her hair. Then she doesn’t see him again because their schedules don’t meet. She didn’t pick the checkout that he was in. She is in a state unacknowledged while he watches her go out in a state of fury. Then their paths cross and he sees her with a different boy and she sees him with a different girl and they are both with separate dates. The girl changes from the beginning to end by in the beginning she
hated moving and later is happy and forgets everything that has happened. It says in the text “They moved her to Cincinnati, where for a month she spent the greater part of every day in a room full of beveled glass windows, sifting through photographs of the life she’d lived and left behind.” This shows that she is reminiscing in the life she lived. I wouldn’t be surprised if she is crying. Also “beveled glass” she is sitting behind thick glass and not wanting anyone to know because her parents don’t care. Also she is probably remembering her old friends, her family she left behind, her house, he childhood. But know she is stepping forward in her life and she doesn’t like it. Later she seems happy. The text says” Like a Tibetan monk in solitary meditation, she calmed to a point of deep, deep happiness; this feeling came to her, reliably, if strangely, only in the supermarket.” This shows that everything around her has stopped and she is happy. She can finally appreciate life. This is to her happiness that she has never been before she has saw him and finally felt happy. She feels like he is apart of her. But only feels it in the supermarket because she sees him and knows he is there. It helps us understand how much things can change like how the girl really liked him to then she doesn’t and goes to the wrong person and it seems like on purpose their cross paths to look at what they are with and not what they are supposed to be with and how her mood changes. How did her feeling really changed because if you think of it she seems to be sad then happy then angry then neutral but probably she is feeling sad inside. I can’t really explain why. This is how the girl changes from the beginning to end by in the beginning she hated moving and later is happy and forgets everything that has happened.
This book is filled with many different stories from many different characters, such as Angel, Alma, and Alex. Angel is the smallest kid in his family, and he has a big brother named Weasel. Weasel always plays tricks on Angel, and Angel hates it. One day while Angel was taking a shower Weasel came out of nowhere and took a picture of Angel in the shower, at least Angel covered his body with the shower curtains. Weasel threated Angel to give him 20 dollars or else he’ll show the picture to every girl in Angel’s school Angel was really worried. Angel tried to get the photo away from him but there was no chance, but finally he came up with an idea. Angel took a naked baby picture of Weasel and threated him back, Weasel didn’t really care instead he made Angel do all of his chores, even pulling his dad’s weeds. After Angel’s dad came home Angel ran to him and said everything, but instead Weasel being mad at him he gave Angel his picture back and they got along. Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, is a story written in the first person about a young girl named Melinda Sordino. The title of the book, Speak, is ironically based on the fact that Melinda chooses not to speak. The book is written in the form of a monologue in the mind of Melinda, a teenage introvert. This story depicts the story of a very miserable freshman year of high school. Although there are several people in her high school, Melinda secludes herself from them all. There are several people in her school that used to be her friend in middle school, but not anymore. Not after what she did over the summer. What she did was call the cops on an end of summer party on of her friends was throwing. Although all her classmates think there was no reason to call, only Melinda knows the real reason. Even if they cared to know the real reason, there is no way she could tell them. A personal rape story is not something that flows freely off the tongue. Throughout the story Melinda describes the pain she is going through every day as a result of her rape. The rape of a teenage girl often leads to depression. Melinda is convinced that nobody understands her, nor would they even if they knew what happened that summer. Once a happy girl, Melinda is now depressed and withdrawn from the world. She hardly ever speaks, nor does she do well in school. She bites her lips and her nails until they bleed. Her parents seem to think she is just going through a faze, but little do they know, their daughter has undergone a life changing trauma that will affect her life forever.

In conclusion, TifAni FaNelli , the protagonist of “ Luckiest Girl Alive,” by Jessica Knoll and I are not all similar and we could not be friends because she is very rude and manipulate people to get them to do what she wants. TiffAni and I have very different views of the world, how people view us, and the way we would react to the conflict is very different. The tragic twist that puts her in a vulnerable state after the rape in which she stuggled with made her become much meaner and made people look at her differently and how she views the world in her

This story is about a teenage girl, whose first heartbreak leads to some rather unfortunate events. She tells us about her first love and her first kiss. “Two months, and a few amatory stages later, he dropped” her for a girl who was performing opposite him in a school play. Watching him with the other girl was more than she could bear and the night she went to see the play was “the beginning of months of real, if more or less self-inflicted, misery” for her. While baby-sitting one night, she made the fatal mistake of getting drunk. She then calls her best friend, who shows up with another girl and several boys, to help her with her situation. Before she was able to cover up the ill-fated events, the couple returned home unexpectedly. She then had to explain what happened to her mother. Her mother then buys a bottle of Scotch and goes to see the couple to discuss her daughter’s actions. She was forbidden to date again until she turned sixteen and she had to pay for the bottle out of her baby-sitting money. Her reputation suffered greatly until the fall, when another girl did something even more scandalous and people forgot about her. In the end, she discovered that she was completely over the boy and she learned a valuable lesson about how actions have consequences.
