Plagiarism May Lead to Expulsion Plagiarism has all the connotations of a major felony, on par with conspiracy, terrorism, or cruelty to animals. Granted, more often than not plagiarism is committed unintentionally, with no ill will and no wish to mislead. But plagiarism is no less serious because of that. It's a form of stealing: unconscious or not, theft is theft. At the most basic level, plagiarism is taking someone else's ideas or words and presenting them as your own. Professors can smell intellectual pilfering like a dead fish, and students should do everything they can to avoid it. The MLA Handbook recommends that you "document everything that you borrow--not only direct quotations and paraphrases but also information and ideas . . . . You must indicate the source of any appropriated material that readers might otherwise mistake for your own. If you have any doubt about whether or not you are committing plagiarism, cite your source or sources" (Gibaldi 29). In other words, "better safe than sorry" may be a cliché, but it's sound advice when it comes to documentation. Whether in an English essay, a Political Science paper, or a Social Work case study, plagiarism is immoral and dishonest. And most universities take it very seriously: plagiarism may result in a falling grade for a paper or a course, or even lead to expulsion from the university.
They show their view of plagiarism clearly in their documents through the use of terms such as “without hesitation” and “will not be tolerated” (Student code of conduct and discipline, 2015, p. 6; 9. Blake also uses sound to deliver the meaning to the poem. The poem starts off with "My mother groaned! my father wept." You can hear the sounds that the parents make when their child has entered this world. Instead of joyful sounds like cheer or cries of joy, Blake chooses words that give a meaning that it is not such a good thing that this baby was brought into this world. The mother may groan because of the pain of delivery, but she also groans because she knows about horrible things in this world that the child will have to go through. The father also weeps for the same reason, he knows that the child is no longer in the safety of the womb, but now is in the world to face many trials and tribulations.

In Shakespeare’s play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Caesar is a great ruler whose image is portrayed differently by Decius Brutus and Marc Antony. At the great funeral of Caesar, Marc Antony and Brutus both share their portrayals of the great ruler. Brutus displays Caesar as a ruler whose ambition clouded his judgement and made him dangerous, thus he deserved to die. Antony portrays Caesar as a noble ruler who helped Rome and was killed wrongly. Ultimately, Antony’s logical and genuine portrayal of Caesar is more legitimate than Brutus’, as shown through Caesar’s livelihood and actions in the play.
Plagiarism takes various forms. A student may cheat doing something as extreme as purchasing a paper, hiring someone to write a paper or turning in a paper freely provided by a friend. Many students unknowingly commit Plagiarism by failing to properly cite their sources crediting the authors. Still others cite, but plagiarize by coping much too much and writing far, far too little of their own synthesized thoughts and ideas. Students must be careful about copying too much. If a paper is mostly other writers’ material, that can be considered Plagiarism, even if the student credits their sources.

Plagiarism, conventionally defined as literary theft, is the stealing and replication of the original ideas of another person without requesting for consent or crediting the author of a recorded or authored work (Heath 4). It may take several forms, for example, presenting an idea as original even though it has been derived from an existing source, or even neglecting to put quotation marks when quoting a sentence from borrowed work. In as much as plagiarism is widely regarded as a bad practice, it is at times committed unintentionally. As a result, there is an anti-plagiarism policy in several academic institutions and heavy penalties are imposed on individuals involved in plagiarism.
William Blake’s 1793 poem “The Tyger” has many interpretations, but its main purpose is to question God as a creator. Its poetic techniques generate a vivid picture that encourages the reader to see the Tyger as a horrifying and terrible being. The speaker addresses the question of whether or not the same God who made the lamb, a gentle creature, could have also formed the Tyger and all its darkness. This issue is addressed through many poetic devices including rhyme, repetition, allusion, and symbolism, all of which show up throughout the poem and are combined to create a strong image of the Tyger and a less than thorough interpretation of its maker.

Upon first reading one of London’s most distinguishable feature is the rhythm that is evoked by the closed structure of the poem. London’s text is divided into four stanzas each containing four lines. The four lines in the each stanza follow a pattern of repeated syllable count which features the corresponding lines from each stanza having identical syllable counts. Another structural device that Blake employs is an ABAB rhyming scheme at the end of every line, which is what brings out the poem’s steady beat. Together these structural choices develop a chant-like rhythm that brings out emotion from both side of the poem’s message. William Blake, one of the infamous English romantic poets, is most known for his romantic views on conventional scenes and objects, which were presented in his works The Songs of Innocence and The Songs of Experience. The first collection was published in 1789, and addresses subjects such as suffering and death from the innocent and optimistic perspective of a child. The later collection addresses these same issues, but is told from the perspective of an experienced bard. The poems contained in The Songs of Innocence often have a counter part in the second collection that reflects a darker or more corrupted take on the same subject. For example, the purity presented in the creation of “The Lamb” is dramatically contrasted with its shameful counterpart “The Tyger”. In this essay, I will argue that William Blake’s poem “The Tyger” alludes to his belief in a darker side of creation and the implications of the Industrial Revolution, my argument is based on Blake’s use of rhetorical questions, word choice, and the poem’s context; specifically in the fourth and fifth stanzas. In the beginning of the poem the tiger appears as a striking and wondrous creature, however, as the poem progresses, the tiger takes on a symbolic meaning, and comes to be a physical manifestation of the spiritual and moral problem the poem explores: creation, divine and manmade.

UMUC’s Policy 150.25 - Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism states what is expected of students to uphold academic integrity. It lists plagiarism as its top reason for a charge of academic dishonesty. It also describes the procedures for handling the charge of plagiarism. Plagiarism is serious offense on the academia level but does not have official law stature. The true definition of plagiarism is “Using someone else’s ideas or phrasing and representing those ideas or phrasing as our own, either on purpose or through carelessness.”[2] There are many different ways of remedying this problem.
