What is cheating? I found myself pondering over this question for a very long time. I tried looking around trying to find some answers. After a proverbial wild goose chase, amidst racing thoughts and imagined guilt trips, just as I was about to give up, a small but determined voice inside my head spoke up, and at that instant, I realized that I already knew what cheating was. All I had to do was to look deep inside myself and listen to that inner voice which stems from our conscience. I believe that we have an innate ability to distinguish between right and wrong. Something that feels wrong cannot be right. Cheating is not right because our conscience does not permit us to do so. I strongly believe cheating is condemnable and cannot be justified because before we cheat others we have to cheat our own selves by killing our conscience. …show more content…

People compete with each other ferociously in today’s world. Our virtual world has not been spared either; Competition is brutally thick even on something as frivolous as a profile picture on a social media platform. I believe that people who cheat have a deep sense of insecurity that compels them to try to make themselves look better than the rest. The lure of money and fame tempt people to fall into the vicious cycle of cheating. After having tasted the metaphorical forbidden fruit once, the second time gets easier. People who cheat may get away with it, but they face tremendous mental anguish in the form of guilt. Cheating causes them to slowly lose confidence in themselves.
