Animal farm is a book about the animals fighting for equality. Old major a well respected pig who before died had a gathering of how the animals should fight for to be equal and to be treated right. Their leader is Napoleon but it seems that Napoleon is abusing his power and authority and I chose Napoleon because he seems like a interesting character that plays a big part in animal farm. He believes he is a “good” leader but on the rest of this essay i will explain the kind of traits Napoleon has.
A.) On my Animal Farm essay, I chose to talk about Napoleon. Throughout the story on Animal Farm. Napoleon is self-centered, Immature, dishonest character in the story. He is a large boar, rather fierce-looking berkshire boar with a reputation
for getting his own way. He was being breeded by Mr. Jones. This essay will demonstrate and explain Napoleon and his poor leadership throughout the book.X1.)Napoleon is self-centered. “At the meetings snowball often won over majority by his brilliant speeches, but Napoleon was better at canvassing support for himself in between times.”(47)(E1.) To explain the quote describing Napoleon’s trait, what it is trying to say is that Napoleon can never agree with anything simply because he thinks it does no good for him. He wants things his way. He thinks that the decisions that are made in the farm are for him. Napoleon only cares about what he wants and what he thinks is best for animal farm but deep inside what’s best for him.X2.) Napoleon is immature. “One day, however, he arrived unexpectedly to examine plans. He walked heavily around the shed, looked closely at every detail of the plans and snuffed at them once or twice, then stood for a little while contemplating them out of the corner of his eye; then suddenly he lifted his leg, urinated over the plans, and walked out without uttering a word(50)E2.) To explain this quote, this shows how immature Napoleon acted. He didn’t agree with Snowballs plans. It’s possible that he might’ve been jealous too. Napoleon decided to act that certain way instead of having a respectful, brief, private conversation with snowball but chose to do the immature thing. We all know Napoleon is known to have things his own way and he’ll do anything to get his way.X3.) Lastly, Napoleon is untrustworthy. “ Except through Whymper, there was as yet no contact between Animal Farm and the outside world, but there were constant rumors that napoleon was about to enter into a definite business agreement either with Mr. Pilkington from Foxwood or Mr. frederick of Pinchfield but never, it was noticed, with both simultaneously.(66)E3.)To explain this, the quote shows how untrustworthy he is. The night after old major died, The 7 commandments were inscribed on the wall in the farm. The 1st commandment states that “ Whatever goes upon 2 legs is an enemy.”,Napoleon secretly made arrangements with a human. Mr. Whymper would visit the farm every monday to receive orders from Napoleon. Napoleon disobeyed the 1st commandment and did things his own way, which isn’t surprising. He got involved with what was suppose to be an enemy to all animals.S.) I really believe Napoleon is the big character in this book because he was best to write about. Napoleon is the leader of animal farm and what he has been doing has caught my attention to describe him and explain the poor leadership.
Napoleon is an extremely deceitful character in numerous ways. For example, Napoleon tricks the animals into thinking concepts that are not true. “Throughout the whole period of his seeming friendship with Pilkington, Napoleon had really been in a secret agreement with Frederick,” (31). This shows that Napoleon lied to the animals about which farm he was going to sell wood to. Furthermore, this also illustrates that the animals might not trust Napoleon if he continues to lie to them. Additionally, Napoleon is an untruthful menace who will do nothing to help the farm or the animals. “Day and night we are watching over your welfare. It is for YOUR sake that we drink that milk and eat those apples,” (12). This shows that Napoleon is trying to
Napoleon, a main character in George Orwell's Animal Farm, was very cruel. so why does everyone consider him such an effective leader? In Animal Farm Orwell gives Napoleon, the dictator of the farm, many characteristics that make him an effective leader. Throughout the book Napoleon had a manipulative attitude, a strong support system, and he used scare tactics to intimidate and gain control of the other animals on the farm.
Absolute power leads to the corruption of government. In Animal Farm, when a group of mistreated animals rebels against their cruel farm owner, two intelligent pigs on the farm take it upon themselves to lead the animals jointly. However, due to the animals' greedy co-leader Napoleon who dominates that power, the pigs' leadership turns into a corrupt power-hungry government that causes the entire farm system to collapse. In order to secure a life of luxury for Napoleon and his fellow pigs, Napoleon (with Squealer as his spokesman)uses language that intimidates, language that distorts the truth, and language that appeals to the emotions of the animals in order to manipulate gullible animals of Animal Farm.
Manor Farm is a large farm located in Willingdon, England. Mr. Jones, the owner of the farm is a tyrant person that treats the animal of the farm bad. He drinks too much and doesn’t really care about the farm, “Mr. Jones of the farm, had locked the hen-houses for the night, but was
It was was a dark night, all the animals huddled around Old Major to hear what he had to say about his dream. It turns out Old Major talks about rebelling against man so that all animals can have a better life. Ironically, after Rebellion, no one except Napoleon has a better life and he makes their lives even harsher. This is a story of communism, this is the story of Animal Farm.
Napoleon’s method of victimizing the animals with his physiological attacks allows for his control over Animal Farm and its animal population. Napoleon initially bombards the animals with propaganda and thus conditions and enslaves them to his subjective ideals. Afterward, Napoleon’s implement of expert power overwhelms the animals and subjugates them to him. Finally, the animals are controlled by Napoleon as they are besieged with his coercive powers. Overall,
In the book Napoleon began his leadership role quite well, with his ideas being fair and with a positive meaning. As the story continues he becomes more corrupt, and his ideas turn into a dictatorship. “Napoleon lead the animals back to the store-shed and served out a double portion of corn to everyone, with two biscuits for each dog.” As time went on his true nature, of a power crazy character begins to surface, he becomes more selfish and the principle idea of equality no longer exists. The farm is run on terror, and no animal dare speak out against him, for fear of death. “The news leaked out that every pig was receiving a ration of a pint of bear daily, with half a gallon for Napoleon.”
Pigs walking on two feet, horses and sheep talking. This is how George Orwell satirizes human nature in his classic novel Animal Farm. Animal Farm is an allegory of the Russian Revolution of 1917. The title of the book is also the setting for the action in the novel. The animals in the story decide to have a revolution and take control of the farm from the humans. Soon the story shows us how certain groups move from the original ideals of the revolution to a situation where there is domination by one group and submission by all the others. The major idea in this story is the political corruption of what was once a pure political ideal. Orwell uses satire to ridicule human traits in his characters such as Napoleon and Squealer. There are several different characters in the novel utilizing animals as symbols of people in real life during the Russian Revolution. Napoleon is the leader of the pigs that ultimately come to dominate the farm. The characteristics that we associate with pigs , lazy, greedy, and pushy are meant to symbolize the characteristics that the leaders of the Russian Revolution exhibited. Napoleon is admired by all of the animals because he is their leader. All of the animals believe that their leader wants to fulfill all of their needs. They also are convinced that Napoleon’s decisions are made the best interest of the animals. Napoleon’s piglike qualities are shown throughout the story. He exhibited greediness when he sold the dying horse, Boxer to a slaughterhouse for money so that he and the other pigs could purchase whiskey. Orwell ridicules human nature through Napoleon in the sense that he is trying to show how the greedy and power hungry eventually end in corruption.
ANIMAL FARM About 80 per-cent of all the animals on Animal Farm completely followed the seven commandments. The other 20 per-cent of the animals would rarely follow all the rules and they were often treated like a piece of dirt. All the animals on Animal Farm were treated differently according to their social status, where in today’s society everyone should treat everyone equally. The characters in Animal Farm had many diverse characteristics, some of the animals were powerful, stupid, and sneaky First of all, Napoleon is a huge Berkshire boar and he clearly is the most powerful of all the animals. He was able to take complete leadership of the farm because he secretly trained the dogs to attack Snowball. George Orwell writes, “ ‘Never mind the milk, comrades!’ cried Napoleon, placing himself in front of the buckets. ‘That will be attended to, the harvest is more important’ (817).&nb describe Napoleon as a leader, “ ‘long live Comrade Napoleon’ ” (846). All the animals on the farm (no matter what Napoleon did to them) would treat him as a powerful leader and whatever he said they would do. Often Orwell stirs up controversy about the rebellion, “ ‘forward in the name of the rebellion. ‘Long live Animal Farm!’ ‘Long live Comrade Napoleon!’ ‘Napoleon is always right.’
From a political perspective, this intriguing satirical novella greatly uses symbolism by carefully modeling the characterization of the animals to fit its target whilst avoiding stepping on the toes of the intended personage. By modeling each character in their place, you will stumble upon Napoleon, a direct replica of the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. Napoleon is the main antagonist of George Orwell's Animal Farm. He is a large fierce-looking Berkshire boar and t...
When Major dies the animals’ end up rebelling against their human master managing to overthrow him. After the rebellion the most outspoken pig, Napoleon, manages to become the leader along with Snowball, who is the most eloquent pig. Napoleon figures out a way to get Snowball kicked out of the farm so he can be the leader himself. Napoleon is a back-stabbing traitor. He becomes just like the humans and dominates over the other animals. Napoleon breaks the laws but since he has the other animals in such a strong hold they do not seem to care. Napoleon is the evil character in this novel. He is almost like an animal version of Adolph Hitler because he is doing wrong behind everyone’s back and all the animals still love him but only because they have no idea what Napoleon is really about.
Lord Acton, the British historian once said, “Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.” In the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, the author gives many examples of how power is used to manipulate and produce fear. In this book the main character, Napoleon, became a master of using various tactics to gain and maintain power over the rest of the animals. Napoleon used propaganda, manipulation and fear to gain more loyalty and power throughout the farm.
The animals in the story are dissatisfied with letting Farmer Jones rule their lives, so they decide to change their society. A boar, named Old Major, introduces the idea of Animalism in order for them to rebel and live in harmony. When Old Major dies, other animals try to rule the farm. Napoleon, a power hungry pig, becomes successful in controlling the other animals. He manipulates the animals by only educating his young instead of the other working class animals, like the cart horses and cows. By creating this boundary, Napoleon diminishes the idea of rebellion. Napoleon also uses a technique of propaganda called Cult of Personality, which makes him seem heroic and godlike to the animals around him. Lastly, Napoleon intimidates the other animals by using his threatening dogs that he trains to keep the other animals from questioning his scheme. By showing how Napoleon does whatever he can to control the animals in his dystopia, Orwell implies that leaders manage their people so that they can preserve their power.
In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, a main theme is that power corrupts those who possess it. A definition of corruption is,“dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery.” Orwell develops this idea through the character Napoleon in various ways. Looking back in the book, the animal’s rebellion quickly turned political and revolved around, “Leader, Comrade Napoleon (Orwell 81)”. The power Napoleon possed was executed through lies and selfishness, aided by the lack of intellectual ability in the other animals. The corruption of Napoleon’s power is displayed when he favors himself, along with the other pigs, and eventually the dogs, who all get better rations of food compared to the other animals. Another main demonstration of how power corrupts Napoleon is how he separates himself from the other animals on the farm, displaying his feelings if superiority to the other animals. A ceremonial nature develops towards Napoleon. The last way power corrupts Napoleon is how he acts recklessly; killing other animals and lying about
It was the glorious speech from Old Major that made the animals want to rebel so badly. Animal Farm, written by George Orwell is an excellent novel that portrays the need for power. It shows how power can be used for either good or evil. The story begins on Manor Farm, owned by a farmer named Mr. Jones. One of the pigs, named Old Major, gives a speech that motivates the animals to rebel. After a while, the animals ended up rebelling, and managed to kick out Mr. Jones. During the beginning of “Animal Farm’s” reign under Snowball and Napoleon’s (main characters) lead, it brought the animals on Manor Farm together into a peaceful world. However, after this initial stance of power, Snowball and Napoleon began to fight for it. In the end, Napoleon ends up with control of the farm and Snowball is never seen again. Power is a corrupting influence in Animal Farm and both Snowball and Napoleon’s way of leading are very different.
