Are you weird, smart or impatient? Nancy Lublin says these are the characteristics of an entrepreneur. As a child she was known for doing things differently. She was never good at following rules or focusing on one thing. Nancy is considered one of the most successful nonprofit leaders of the world. She says the key is the people she works with, they make her an extraordinary leader. (Lublin 1)
She sees something that needs to be done and makes it happen. (Lublin 1) She started law school and overnight had a successful nonprofit business. She has only continued to inspire and amaze everyone she crosses paths with. How does a story like that start?
The Beginning
Nancy Lublin always knew she was different. She grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut. Her mother was a homemaker and her father was a local lawyer. Growing up she always knew she wanted to become a lawyer also. She lived a sheltered life and even attended the same preschool her father did when he was a child. (McCulley, Nancy Lublin of Dress For Success: Change-maker, Woman Entrepreneur) Her first activist campaign was in preschool. A classmate decided purple was a “boy color” and demanded that he should have all the purple crayons. Purple was her favorite color and she believed they should be for everyone. She gathered all of the purple-ish colored crayons and ran around the room yelling “I’ve got the purple!” She said it was liberating and she has continued to speak up for what is right since. Education
She did well in school and got into Brown University where she studied political science which later turned into feminist theory. That was the starting point for Nancy’s career. She received a scholarship ...

... The advice Nancy would offer to someone going into a leadership position for the first time is to listen. “People have two ears and one mouth. That really should be a clue. They need to listen more.” (Lublin 1)
Leadership is the ability to influence employees to voluntarily pursue organizational goals. (Kinicki and Williams) Nancy has a proven record of successfully leading her not-for-profits by inspiring and influencing others to want to be involved and work passionately towards organizational objectives. According to Nancy, creativity, innovation, inspiration and unbridled passion can make a lot happen from a little. (Lublin 3) Nancy Lublin has fully embraced these positive leadership qualities and is a shining star who inspires and leads others to individually and collectively make significant, meaningful impacts towards positive social change.
