1. What is the major THEME of the story? (1 mark)
The major theme of the story, “The Blue Bead” is that no matter how old you are, what gender you are, or what country you come from, you can be a hero. Another theme that really came to my mind was karma; and how the universe can reward you for the things you do. For example, after the main character, Sibia, saves the woman being attacked by the crocodile, and in return, she found the gorgeous blue bead she needed for her necklace. 2. What type of CHARACTERIZATION is used to develop the character of Sibia? Describe TWO character traits of Sibia. Provide two specific details from the story to support your observations. (3 marks) Two character traits on Sibia are that she is heroic and attentive. For example, for the obvious reason, she is heroic

Conflict #1: The first conflict is Person versus Nature. An example is when the woman was attacked by the crocodile, or when Sibia hit the crocodile in the eye.
Conflict #2: The second conflict is Person versus Lifestyle. Sibia is living in a third-world country by how the character described what she owned and what Sibia was wearing, nothing but rags and was bare-footed in the winter. If Sibia wasn’t in this third world country, she wouldn’t have a hard time working. SIbia would be able to make as many necklaces without much of the hassle of finding beads. Also, Sibia would not have experienced this situation and would have not been the same hero she is.
Conflict #3: The third conflict is Person versus Self. This conflict is evident because Sibia had to decide what was she going to do. Was she going to let this woman fight for herself and die, or was she going to risk her life and try to save the woman? Sibia is fighting her inner conscience and chose to save the woman. 5. Select one symbol from the story and explain its SYMBOLIC significance. (2
The major themes of the book are directly related to the themes which John Demos uses to tell this story. The storyline moves on though the evolution of one theme to the next. The function of these major sections is to allow the reader to relate to John Williams overall state of mind as the story unfold. By implementing these major themes into his work, John Demos make it possible for the reader to fully understand the story from beginning to end.
In the Lilies of the Field by William E. Barrett, Homer and Mother Maria both display straightforward, hardworking, and stubborn character traits. Firstly, Homer and Mother Maria both display a straightforward personality by being brutally honest about their opinions. For example, when Mother Maria asks Homer to build a chapel, Homer speaks his mind by telling her he does not want to build it. Mother Maria shows her straightforward behavior during Homer’s stay at the convent. One morning, when Homer sleeps in late, Mother to becomes extremely upset and is not afraid to show how she feels about him. Secondly, both Homer and Mother Maria display a hardworking spirit. Homer is a hardworking man because after finally agreeing to build the chapel,
The second conflict I found was character vs. self. Prue is fighting with herself about being able to unite the two makers of the Mobius Cog. She’s afraid that she wasn’t meant for this job and that innocent people have died for a hopeless cause. Prue thinks that she can’t save the people
In conclusion, there all sorts of conflicts that are going on around in this book. The four types of conflicts going on are Human vs. Society, Human vs. Self, Human vs. Human and Human vs. Self. Finally, Francisco Jimenez uses characterization to display the different aspects of all the characters during this time. “‘Andale, Panchito,’ Roberto yelled out, banging his shovel on the ground. ‘You can sleep tomorrow when we go home.’” This is characterization because it shows how Roberto is a hard worker and he is willing to persevere through
Characterization is an essential component in a short story. Characterization is based on two things , indirect or direct characterization. Indirect Characterization shows the audience what the personality of the character is , and Direct tells the audience what the personality of the character is. Authors make characters be presented by means of description, through their actions, speech, thoughts and interactions with other characters. Authors frequently apply characterization to their stories to develop a theme or moral to the stories. Practically every novel that was made in the history of literature has a theme. This means any kind of short story like The Whistle by Anne Estevis and Marigold by Eugenia Collier has characterization.
The main category of conflict is character vs self. This is when a character has an internal problem. They fight throughout the story to overcome that problem. The first example of character vs self is Elie. Throughout the story Elie is fighting himself to keep himself going. This is because of all the things happening around him. It drove him to the point where he almost gave up because his legs were
There were many themes illustrated throughout the memoir, A Long Way Gone by Ishmael beah. These themes include survival/resilience despite great suffering, the loss of innocence, the importance of family/heritage, the power of hope and dreams, the effects of injustice on the individual, and the importance of social and political responsibility. Every theme listed has a great meaning, and the author puts them in there for the readers to analyze and take with them when they finish reading the book.
Identify the different conflict episodes that exist in this case? Who was in conflict with whom? 3 points
I believe the conflict in the story is an internal one. I think it is the conflict between the old woman's will power and Mother Nature. She encounters many obstacles that would influence most people to give up but she has motivation to get her task done. These encounters include a bush catching onto her dress, a scarecrow frightening her and discouragement from a white man. She also had to climb hills, cross streams and crawl under barbed wire fences which is certainly not considered an easy task for an elderly woman.. If I was forced to deal with these obstacles I know that I would most likely have turned around but her will power was too strong to let Mother Nature win.
2. The main conflict of this story is a result of the family's financial status. Father's greed, low income, and Pyotr's frustration are key points to the main conflict. The conflict has plagued Pyotr most, the hallucination of abandoning his family is the main conflict in the story.
Conflicts: Name the five literary conflicts and give an example of each from the novel.
Characterization has been established as an important part of literature as it allows authors to fully develop characters’ personalities, allowing readers to understand the characters and their actions. In the poem Judith, the author uses adjective phrases to describe Judith and Holofernes’ personalities. The diverse contrast in their nature highlights the heroic qualities in Judith, which teach the reader to have faith in God, as that is where her courage and strength stems from. Therefore, characterization can further be used as a technique to establish major themes in a work of
