This essay is to answer the question: Do I believe Jerry actions were ethical or Unethical in the story Mother in Mannville. I believe Jerry was ethical because during the story Jerry was showing that he was honest, hardworking and caring. The narrator even talks about how much integrity Jerry has because of how he carries himself and how he does his work. I believe Jerry lies in the end because he might be ashamed of the fact that he has no mother. Also, I believe Jerry may have lied because he starts to care about the narrator and is hurt because she has to leave just like his mother left him. This may have made Jerry feel worst than he did before he meet her. During the story the narrator talks about Jerry being honest and having “integrity”.
She says “its is honest, but it is more than honesty” when she is talking about Jerry’s character. Also Jerry would not accept money to pay for the broken axe from the narrator but wants to pay for it himself even though he does not have the money. Also, Jerry took very good care of her dog Pat when she was out of town, this showed how responsible he is. Jerry showed how much integrity and character he has in everything that he did for the narrator during her visit to the orphanage. The story Mother in Mannville shows that even though someone is a good and honest person they can still do something wrong. Jerry was still a good person even after he lied, someone’s pain and situation sometimes makes them make bad choices. In summary, Mother in Mannville was a great story that made me think about what Jerry may have been going through. Jerry lied about having a mother but I still believe his behavior overall was ethical. Jerry proved that he was a good young man with integrity and character throughout the story. I don’t believe Jerry should be called unethical because he told one lie about having a mother because we don’t know what he was going through.
This novel, A Midwife's Tale: The Life of Martha Ballard, by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich, is based on Ballard’s diary starting in 1785 and ending with her death in 1812. Ulrich takes us step by step through Martha Ballard’s life as a Colonial Midwife. She reveals to us all the marvelous acts that midwives performed for their families and communities. “Midwives and nurses mediated the mysteries of birth, procreation, illness and death. They touched the untouchable, handled excrement and vomit as well as milk, swaddled the dead as well as the newborn” (Ulrich, 1990, pg.47). The novel also reveals that based on the views of societal power, gender roles in the medical environment and personal values, revealed in the diary, women were subordinate to men during this historical time period. Martha Ballard lived and thrived in this inferior atmosphere.

The author George Elliot once said “don’t judge a book by its cover.” Appearance can be very misleading, and you shouldn't prejudge the worth or value of something by its outward appearance alone. This philosophical idea has been included in many works of literature, including the timeless classic To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee. The novel takes place in the town of Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930s. Many citizens of Maycomb tend to make judgements based on outward appearances alone. In the novel, Lee uses minor characters such as Boo Radley, Mrs. Dubose, and Tom Robinson to convey the book’s theme of prejudice.
Mothers are often thought of and characterized as loving, generous women, who put their children before themselves. They are gracious, caring, and kind humans that are willing to sacrifice happiness and fulfillment in their lives to insure that their children receive the guidance, love, support, and happiness that every child (especially their own) deserves. Sadly, this description does not define the characteristics of all mothers. An example of a mother in which her mannerisms are the exact opposite of those depicted above is found in the character of Mrs. Hammond in Rebecca Rush's Kelroy, first published in 1812. Mrs. Hammond is an example of the realism found in the book. Combining realism such as this with romanticism makes Kelroy one of the best illustrations of a novel of manners.
These ethical dilemmas were a big part of the story novel and caused most of the conflict that arose in the novel. One of the ethical dilemmas was David telling the nurse to bring his daughter to an Institution. By making that decision to send his daughter away based on his past experience with his sick sister and assumption about how the future will be. This connects to the ethical topic of techniques of neutralization by Joseph Heath. He uses an excuse to prove that his decision wasn’t unethical when it really was. According to the Denial of responsibility technique, he believed that he had no choice in sending Phoebe away, David saw it as the only option because he was so focus on his past experience. He imagined what Phoebe’s life would be like and the likely toll of caring for her would have on the family. Caused him to see Phoebe as a threat, with only one option to solve the
Shakespeare specifically leaves out key details on her character. Was she in an affair with Claudius before the murder? Does she know Claudius was the one to kill King Hamlet? Did she plot with him?
In Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, there is an abundance of minor characters. Three of these characters, Dill, Alexandra, and Calpurnia are especially significant because of the influence they had on Scout.
As in any other discipline that entails interaction with individuals, the aspect of ethics must include a conscious principle. To define ethics in its simplest form, it is known as the ability to distinguish right from wrong. In the movie, the sudden pressure from management drives the company’s salesmen to increase sales with no regards to ethics in order to maintain job security. All of the main characters had made their fair share of unethical decisions, out of desperation, to increase their sales and ultimately to keep their jobs. The degree of each decision can be left for viewers to determine the level of appropriateness based on their own values. Personally, although all characters have made unethical decisions, the most ethical salesman was Ricky Roma. Ri...

This essay will provide a theoretical understanding of the four ethical frameworks: Consequentialism, Non- Consequentialism, Virtue Ethics and Care Ethics. When applied to a situation these frameworks help teachers to resolve and justify their decision making. The objective is to apply the four frameworks to the scenario Helping Molly, to establish the most ethical course of action. Finally, a recommended course of action will be justification. The overarching ethical issue present within the Helping Molly scenario is the community sponsorship and the alignment with school beliefs and initiatives.
In Daisy Miller, Henry James slowly reveals the nature of Daisy"s character through her interactions with other characters, especially Winterbourne, the main character." The author uses third person narration; however, Winterbourne"s thoughts and point of view dominate." Thus, the audience knows no more about Daisy than Winterbourne." This technique helps maintain the ambiguity of Daisy"s character and draws the audience into the story.
Daisy Miller was used by Henry James to represent the American Stereotype in that time and to differentiate American and European customs. She was the “American flirt” in this story; very young, unsophisticated, and bold. In the time that this novella was written, it was not uncommon for Americans to visit and explore Europe. Europeans held a negative opinion of Americans due to the Americans’ spontaneous and often poor manners. Daisy’s character represented all Americans and Winterbourne represented the Europeans even though he, himself, was American as well.

In the case of Joelle, this study will significantly identify the different ethical principles that can be applied in the case. In addition to it, the study will also arrive in one ethical theory that Joelle can be applied in her situation in order for her to effectively determine what she will do and if her decision and action can be considered ethical or the right thing.
