In “The Sniper” the conflict is man vs man, which means main character is tasked with killing his enemy, but it proves to be quite a challenge. Even though there were many challenges the sniper followed through with his job and persevered even after he was shot in the arm. Wanting to kill his enemy, stay alive, and be one step closer to ending the war was his main goals. Being brave, he took off his hat, placed it on his gun, and raised it above the edge of the roof. Instantly the enemy shot at it and the sniper, pretending to be dead, waited until the enemy got up for him to shoot him. He did some quick thinking and, with determination, handled the conflict quite well.

Doug Swieteck, from “Okay for Now”, by Gary D. Schmidt, lived a life in anger. At the beginning of the book, he was very hateful of everything. He had spent a long time in anger and disgust, trying to find a way in life. Near the beginning of the book, Joe Pepitone gave Doug his baseball cap and jacket in person, to Doug. But, Doug’s mean older brother took the cap and his dad took his jacket. That added to Doug’s anger even more. But, luckily he turned it around in the middle and end of the book. She uses vivid descriptions, images, moods, symbols and word choices. For example, Hyeonseo Lee is not the name she was born with, or a name she was forced on, the name she carries is a name she choose for herself so that she may live the life she wants. The symbolism behind her many names adds to the identity she gained through her personal journey. Everytime she was forced on to take a new identity she felt further away from who she was, “I was already hiding beneath so many lies that I hardly knew who I was any more. I was becoming a non-person,” she portrays the internal struggles she felt because of her inability to keep anything as simple as her name so that she may overcome all the obstacles and attain her goal to be free. The author uses her style as a way to incorporate her ideas smoothly. She describes anything from her clothes to her goverment in great detail so that she may add the images the readers may need to understand the ideas as a whole. “It was an aspiring neighbourhood that retained a faint edge of slum, typical of Shanghai. Pensioners in Mao-era padded jackets would sit on doorsteps playing mah-jong, oblivious to the Prada-clad girls sweeping past on their way to work”as she describe a city in China her style gives the readers a clear image of what she witnessed. Hyeonseo Lee’s vivid style contributes to the success of her
Ji-Suk grew up as both an American and a Korean. I was very important for Ji-Suk’s mom to teach her daughter her Korean heritage but also wanted her to live up to American standards. This helps develop the theme of striking a balance. This is recognized in the text when the narrator states “Even though she'd made Ji-Suk take Korean lessons every Saturday morning followed by violin lessons in the afternoon—and cooked kimchi and other Korean delicacies with her at least once a week—Ji-Suk's mother had wanted her to succeed by American standards.”
The Chosen by Chaim Potok is a phenomenal novel about two Jewish boys who live in two very discrepant worlds because of the impressions of their fathers. The Hasidic Rabbi, Reb Saunders wants his son, Danny Saunders, to perdure the family legacy and become a Rabbi. Mr. Malter, Reuven’s father, is an Orthodox Jew who is easy going about what he wants his son to do. Throughout the book, both Reuven and Danny face problems and sufferings that helped them both to become stronger and get through the hard times they faced.
A character is a very important component in literature. The narrator is able to create a character by his personal experience and his imagination. To make a character come alive, the development of a character is critical. A skillful writer could use various elements or skills to build a vivid character, such as creating internal or outer conflicts and describing character’s actions or thoughts. They stimulate the readers’ imagination and generate sympathetic response. In the biography of The White Rose Munich 1942-1943, Inge Scholl makes Hans as a round dynamic character through his early youth, his conflict and decision, his reason of making the decision, and his qualities that are shown by his action and thought.
The play “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry has many interesting characters. In my opinion, the most fascinating character is Ruth because of her many emotions and captivating personality. She goes through extreme emotions in the play such as happiness, sadness, anger, stress, and confusion. Ruth is very independent, firm, kind, witty, and loving.

The Cay: Essay By: Alexxis Helton In “The Cay”, Phillip’s character reveals that through many different conflicts, he developed being frightened, overwhelmed, and in the end Phillip develops independence in the end. Phillip demonstrated being frightened after experiencing his ship blowing up and ending up being alone as evidence in the novel when he woke up after getting hit in the head to a random black man in the raft the him all by himself in the middle of the ocean.Phillip responded by being frightened because he just got lost from his parents in a boat explosion and is now with a stranger.”I closed my eyes again, maybe I was dreaming.”(Taylor 30) Phillip was now waking up from getting hit in the head 4 hours later and wakes up to some
