The nature of universe in this reading is to draw mankind into teaching us what life is about. Is it described by James as our guide for learning all that what can know about the reality around us. In everything and everywhere we go, we are meant to learn new things becoming more knowledge of the truth and our own reality. Not everything especially, the important things in life is not going to be learned in class but the universe or sometime experiences allures us find out to “what is” if we are willing to use our minds. The teacher will only teach what is in the curriculum, preventing you from learning liberally. The academic system only present us with limited knowledge and truth about what is real purpose, therefore we must seek it on our own. Life becomes more satisfying when we have found who you are and what this life purpose is. A person can live more freely and happily, not being stuck under what society says is truth or not just being content with what the media tells us is truth. Learning to use our intellectual the right way and having a good guide in the process, makes life rather enjoyable. A personal library of books can heighten intellectual, causing you to be knowledgeable in many areas of life. There are books for almost every question that a person will or can have in life. Many great men and women who lived before us can impart that wisdom that they receive from the time and kind of way instruct us. Nearly every student in college is trying to find themselves and only true happiness come when you know what is. People who work hard for their goals experience true happiness. True happiness is the feeling you get when you try to complete your ultimate aim in life. People in the pursuit of education experience this greatly because they are striving to pass their classes to succeed academically. Anthony writes, “No doubt some of the experience I have in my relationships are part of what is good about them, part of what makes the relationship contribute to my flourishing, to what is good in my life” (Kwame Anthony Appiah 450). The experience, he feels during a relationship is what makes him happy in life not the relationship itself. This is similar to how education experience works because many people enjoy the hard work they put into their academics rather than the grades they receive. Dewey believed that education was a way for someone to complete their goal in life. He states, “If a few words are added upon the topic of education, it is only for the sake of suggesting that the educative process is all one with moral process, since the latter is a continuous passage of experience from worse to better” (John Dewey 401). Dewey is explaining that the experience of education allows people to develop their moral process and happiness. Following what one knows is right can sometimes come at a great price, often going against what has always been known. This can be difficult, and people do not have the drive to find their own happiness most of the time. The secrets of the earth are not for all men to see, because discovering new things requires freedom to have a voice of your own and the will to search. Freedom, or the lack of freedom, shapes the world and everyone in it. Without individuality, a person cannot think of their own thoughts, so learning for themselves is impossible.
It has been said that ignorance is bliss and if we do not know that something more exists, we do not yearn for it. It has also been said that the door to enlightenment and inner wisdom, once opened, can never be closed again. Many great philosophers and teachers have dealt with the idea of whether it is better to live a life of servitude and submission, or are we to pursue a life of personal happiness and emotional freedom.

It may be difficult to understand how the Odyssey, a 2,700 year old epic poem about gods and monsters, could ever symbolize life today. The Odyssey does, however, parallel to a journey of life because of the decisions made by Odysseus and decisions I will make as well as the trials he endured and the challenges I will face. Some of the obstacles I will endure in the future, including high school and college, may not be as serious as the monsters Odysseus had to face, nevertheless, they are still everyday situations that I must learn from.
Everyone has a different development, but what is development? According to Santrock (2014, pg 2), Development is the process of change that begins at conception and throughout the human life span. During the lifetime, the processes involved in the developmental changes are biological process, cognitive process and socioemotional process. Biological process is “the changes in an individual’s physical nature” (Santrock, 2014, pg 10). People grow taller, weight gains, hormonal changes are the examples of biological process. Cognitive process is “the changes in an individual’s thinking, intelligence, and language” (Santrock, 2014, pg 10). It means an individual knows how to use knowledge to solve problems, making decisions and understanding the language. Socioemotional process is the changes in emotion, personality and the relationship with others (Santrock, 2014, pg 10). In other words, people express their emotion and personality more clearly, and with relationship, they know who they want to interact with and how to behave with that person. Finding purpose is something every human has to do, but not all find a purpose that they are actually content living for. In Never Let Me Go, Kazuo Ishiguro shines a light on this very topic. These students aren’t prodigies or even loved by anyone, but they live to serve a purpose bestowed unto them by their “Guardians” and they do so without question. This purpose leads to inevitable death, so the question arises why would anyone with a sane mind agree to a life such as this? The answer lies in psychology and that is precisely what the message from this novel emphasizes.
The quest for knowledge and learning has been occuring since the creation of mankind. Ever since the serpent in the Garden of Eden tempted Eve to eat the forbidden apple from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, promising she would wise as the gods, man has been battling with this endless pursuit. Some men want wisdom so that they may be able to live a good and righteous life. Other men want only the power that knowledge can bring them, to use it for their own sinful purposes.
The abstract idea of life cannot be explained by such simple ideas as being animated, breathing, or speaking. Ordinary machines in this century can perform all of these basic functions. The quandary with defining death is not as abstract and elusive as that of life. The problem of defining life and death has plagued philosophers and the religious bodies for thousands of years for one reason; each philosophy or religion has tried to define the meaning of life and death from only their certain perspective. The seemingly appropriate approach to this problem would be to understand the ideas presented in various philosophies and religions and through this knowledge create a new definition for each idea of life and death. The movie Blade Runner has taken this exact approach in its attempt to finally define life and death in a logical and un-spiritual manner. By taking the position that death is a concrete idea that can be explained, Blade Runner accomplishes the task of interpreting the idea of life in terms death. Through this approach, the meaning of life is redefined to accommodate for the existence of the replicants. Also, as a result of this novel notion of life, it is apparent that humans and replicants never actually live, even though they are alive.

Without evolution, and the constant ever changing environment, the complexity of living organisms would not be as it is. Evolution is defined as a process that results in heritable changes in a population spread over many generations (8).Scientists believe in the theory of evolution. This belief is based on scientific evidence that corroborates the theory of evolution. In Figure 1 the pictures of the skulls depict the sequence of the evolution of Homo-sapiens. As the figure shows, man has evolved from our common ancestor that is shared by homo-sapiens. The change of diet of homo-sapiens over time has thought to contribute to the change in jaw structure and overall skull shape.
How life arose is a question that is fundamental to both philosophy and science. Responses to it enable one, in turn, to answer such questions as, “Who am I?”, “Why am I here?”, and “How do I make sense of this world?” This secondary set of questions can be answered in a myriad of ways for a variety of reasons, but the answer to the first question has only two responses. As Douglas Futuyuma says, “Creation and evolution, between them, exhaust the possible explanations for the origin of living things” (197). Either we are the product of the chemical and physical laws of nature operating over time, or we have been formed, at least in part, by some supernatural Force or Deity. The acceptance of one of these options as a foundation will determine how one will establish a belief system to determine his place in the world. This is a matter of crucial importance, yet in most biology classes offered at U.C. Davis, we learn that life came from nonlife by strictly natural (as opposed to supernatural) processes. The possibility that perhaps the origin of life cannot be explained by a natural mechanism is ignored, and this is disturbing. For if we limit what explanations we are willing to accept for the origin of life, we could be closing our eyes to reality.
The miracle of life is something most of us will experience in our lifetime. The process before actually giving birth, I think is the hardest part of the entire scenario of child bearing. This amazing experience is something that can make the individuals who are involved in the process change in so many ways. The process of giving birth, for those of you who have not experienced or will never experience it, can be very hard, long and rewarding all at the same time. To give a better description, think of eating a fireball. At first the fireball is tame and calm, but just when you least expect it the fireball becomes hot. Then, when the hot sensation becomes too much, the sweet flavor of the fireball breaks through.

I believe there is one holy God and that He has created the universe and all of us but ultimately, we are responsible for our own decisions and actions. There are still so many questions to be answered or looked at differently to gain understanding. I think that it is a human right and passage to spend our lives sorting through our perceptions, experiences, and advice to gain a sense of what is true about the universe and how we relate to this universe. Our humanity comes from the ability to experience the world like a story; finding beginnings, patterns, arcs, character development and endings. I hope, someday, I am able to experience and understand everything I wish to but there is always room for plot twists in any story and mine is no different.
