Intercultural communication is unavoidable as a result of globalisation. Today’s classroom, business and community is characterised by communication with other cultures. With the rapid technological advancement, whatever written theses days might be read by a person from a different culture. In a global, diverse world we live in today, organizations and individuals must learn to adjust to a range of cultural differences. What a culture might perceive as an ethical behavior, another culture may not. Actions that are misunderstood and mismanaged when it comes to ethical conduct in question may lead to legal problems for organisations and individuals. To stay away from highly priced lawsuits, organizations need to invest in time and resources to provide training on cultural sensitivity and ethical decision-making. Both ethics and cultural sensetivity should be top priorities for developing and managing individuals that work effectively within an organisation’s culture. Successfully starting with knowledge and understanding of cultural diversity and sensitivity, as well as educating individuals withing, will create a more proactive future for the organization.

In my culture bride price is paid by groom to the family of the girl who is going to marry. The bride price symbolizes as a promise to always love and protect. It serves as reassurance to the bride’s parents that the daughter they love with all their heart will be in good hands. The bride price does not represent the value of a women and it was never intended to. Its present a promise to love and respect a women. But my friend who is the citizen here and was born here told me that in America there is no like this culture anymore, they do not pay any bride price to groom or to the bride.
The frequent situations of misunderstandings in intercultural communication may be more common then one may believe. The potential for misunderstandings between two different cultures communicating is very high. Through such things as idioms, translation errors, and wrong body language communicative skills can be incorrect. When these intercultural mistakes occur between the people speaking or moving it may be perceived by the opposite culture as funny, rude or confusing. With these considerations in mind, the combination of possibilities for misinterpretations is increasingly elevated.

I wasn 't quite sure what I was getting into when I first enrolled in Intercultural Communications. I had assumptions as to the goals of the course such as I would be learning about the way cultures interact with each other, learn about communication in general, or I would be learning about the ways we use communication through our culture. Humans have been communicating since four million years. On the other hand, the birth of culture is estimated to have taken place about 35,000 years ago. Today, both culture and communication have evolved considerably and have become interdependent of one another, to the point that communication is considered to be a product of culture. Thus, our own culture has a deep impact on our thoughts and behaviors. Since each culture has its distinct aspects, intercultural communication can be the cause of conflict and disorder. There are three main issues which are at the root of the problem of intercultural miscommunication : language as a barrier, cultural diversity and ethnocentrism. I will analyze these three notions in situations in which intercultural communication is frequent such as : the workplace, the classroom and vacation trips.
