Primary Source Paper ​What the author is trying to explain in the beginning is that a new movement for legal-rights was about to begin which was the labor struggles that the Mexican Americans were fighting for in the mid 1960’s it was not only with the Mexican Americans but also the Chicanos that were trying to fight for their rights, but this wasn’t like the African American segregation that they were dealing with labor struggles. The author later explains some few facts about Cesar Chavez which was where it all started, the man who fought for his people, so the immigrant farm workers were getting the right type of treatment in working conditions. Cesar Chavez put a quote about Martin Luther King Jr. “Letter from Birmingham Jail” which give the message to the reader that Cesar Chavez had no intentions of having a rebellion but to just exposed of the injustice that it was given to the immigrant workers because by exposing those inequalities to the union is when it can be cured since it was done before. It also tries to explain to the reader that they will not give up on getting equal right for the people because Cesar Chavez stated that “They have been under the gun, they have been kicked and beaten and herded by dogs” this shows to the audience that the people of Cesar Chavez will not give up even if there are gun pointed into their heads. “we do not hate you or rejoice to see your industry destroyed, we hate the agribusiness system...” this is trying to say to the audience that, they won’t hate the President because they understand that is not to hate the people who follow the orders but the system who want to treat the people differently, at the end of the letter Cesar Chavez stated “farm workers who intend to be free and human” meaning that he wants his people to be treated with rights and equal as everyone else.
