Censored Knowledge vs. Unlimited Knowledge Knowledge comes from books. Books allow people to compose their own opinion and perspective based on their own morals, rather than being told what to believe. Nazis burned books during World War II, in order to prevent people from developing their own opinions and going against Hitler. Getting rid of sources would not benefit people because it would be more like you are being mind controlled rather than thinking for yourself. The differences between unlimited and censored knowledge is that censored knowledge creates a uniform society, fixed opinions, and prevents people from being exposed to multiple perspectives of the truth. Censorship is “the suppression of words, images, or ideas that are “offensive”” to others, which is meant to keep people from believing something that most do not agree on(ACLU). A uniform society keeps a constant belief, meaning they all have a common thought or culture that unites them and makes them the same. For example, in North Korea, they are all bound by the same respect for their dictator and the thoughts they are made to believe through censored television programs, books, and music. Allowing censored knowledge would make everyone believe the same thing, which would be creating fixed opinions that are not their own, but the person who decided to censor it. Sharing the same opinion, prevents people from being exposed to different perspective that allow you to develop your own ways of thinking and morals. Censoring those books or not, does not affect the knowledge the people, but their ability of recognizing and understanding perspectives. They both have similar effects on the public, meaning they do not get to learn for themselves and the knowledge they are receiving are handpicked facts from the influencers out there trying to get everyone under the same beliefs. According to Judy Blume, it can have their benefits, but “the real danger is not in the books, but in the laughing off those who would ban them”(Blume). It deprives you from exploring different subjects because it is now mostly written in personal perspectives that are meant to persuade you in believe in what they think is right. Even though they both have some disadvantages they share, unlimited still allows you more freedom in believing and in saying what it is you want to
